I used to think Mythal’s vallaslin were the branches of a leafless tree, but after seeing those lyrium veins in the Bastion of the Pure and all the lore surrounding Mythal and the Titans in Trespasser, I actually think they might be based on lyrium instead. 

This sort of supports the theory that perhaps the reason the markings are called vallaslin (“blood writing”) is because they were originally made with lyrium. And perhaps they weren’t simply decorative but something more – like Fenris’ tattoos. It would not be the first or last time Tevinter “borrowed” knowledge from the ancient elves.

This would also not be the first time that Mythal’s powers or symbols have some connection to things below the surface. I originally thought Solas’ new ability to turn people to stone was just something any mage with sufficient power could do. But then I saw someone point out that perhaps this was an intentional choice on the part of the writers – to connect Mythal and the earth/the Stone. If Mythal’s markings are actually modelled after raw lyrium, I am getting the sense that there’s even more to Mythal’s connection to the dwarves/the Stone than we currently know - beyond killing Titans, beyond warring with the dwarves.

1001 Knights Shipped!

For anyone not subscribed to Kickstarter emails, shipping has begun for this amazing project. I just received my package today! 

I’ve already downloaded the PDF versions of these books, but I wanted to wait until I got the physical copies to actually look at all the hard work in person. The pages are nice and thick, and the colors definitely pop. I’m pretty excited to read all the prose that goes along with each knight. While flipping through for Tumblr pictures, I also saw some comics as well.

Each volume came with a pack of prints. These are some Fellowship knights. Two patches and super cute stickers on the right.

Even just skimming for pictures to take, it’s obvious there’s such a wide range of styles and interpretations. Each volume embodies Courage, Wisdom, or Fellowship. I’m excited to binge read all three of them and see how many artists I recognize as well.

New ME: Andromeda Discord

Hey nerds, I’m sure many of you are already aware of the Andromeda Modding server on Discord. I’d like to draw your attention now to a new, more general purpose MEA server for anyone who wants a wider range of discussion and less of a focus on the modding aspect of it.

If I still have your attention, here’s a blurb from the founder on why she made this now and not 7 months ago

Ever since Mass Effect: Andromeda was announced, some community members felt the need to already despise it. This hate was reinforced even more when the game was launched. And it has now reached is peak, after EA and BioWare announced that they were no longer developing additional Single Player content for Mass Effect: Andromeda.

In suma, it became “cool” to hate Andromeda. And if you didn’t, you were judged and mocked. “The Road Ahead” was created with the sole purpose to gather all fans of Mass Effect: Andromeda. We want to provide a place for the fans who accepted the game, flaws and all, share their ideas and passions and, at the same time, provide a safe-haven to said fans

In essence: fans know there are strong and weak points to this game and its production, but are still able to enjoy the game and the Mass Effect universe despite vocal pockets of the community tearing down both the game and anyone who remotely liked it. From critical yet civil discussion, to alien cultural analysis, to fangirling over Drack’s super villain bone armor. That’s what a community is for. The server is a bit empty right now, but we welcome you to take a look. :)  Suggestions for server improvement are always encouraged.
