This is sadly too perfect of an example of how performative allyship can be super harmful and useless. On March 31st Mendocino County Public Health posted a Trans Day of Visibility post. This was a Friday. (This matters because there is no way to contact anyone until Monday) Whoever posted it just did it and dipped. There is no moderation at all in this post and it’s become a bunch of hateful and ignorant folks spewing misinformation and disgusting stuff. How did this post help or support any trans people? For about two seconds I felt seen and then saw the comments and that all was quickly washed away. I’m non binary and all it did was make me feel like shit that it was posted and then not backed up by any actions to keep me safe (ie moderating) and no effort to curb misinformation (people talking about it being a mental illness and grooming) I’m going to be contacting them on Monday with my complaints and I highly urge anyone else to please do the same. There is a level of responsibility that comes with talking about this kind of stuff and this was so beyond inappropriate.

Mine is a bit older with different photos of them but wow it’s so bizarre seeing such backlash against drag in some places and then here I’m able to get my debit card with local drag queens on it.
