The Descended Dragon, Crimsule

A single gem lies embedded in impenetrable stone, lost amongst an ocean of foliage and trees. Orange hues dance within the crystalline surface, reflecting its enigmatic power — power that is imprisoned to the elements. To free it’s power is to shatter the stone; to exchange the very essence of life for its zenith. And for that, one must bring forth the vessel of a fallen to complete the ritual. Legends say those with resolve to find this gem and carry out the ritual will be greeted by a reincarnation of the descended dragon, Crimsule. Fire ignites at the palm of one hand, whilst claws whisk ice with the other. With a sacrifice the gem feeds it’s power, freeing the draconic from its imprisonment.

The very soul who stands before Crimsule is said to be showered by its gratitude and reward with loyalty. Until time ticks away, Crimsule will act upon your every command with strength rekindled. Time forbids eternal youth, and so too shall Crimsule fall once more as the life essence within its vessel drips away. 'Tis a tragic cycle of not life and death, but life, servitude, and purgatory. With each cycle Crimsule has grown more and more irritable. Bitter hatred ignited within its core; a loathing for the terrible fate that has befell it. To live truly, Crimsule learned to deceive and manipulate its so-called saviors. Thus, it devolved into nothing more than a sadistic trickster who‘s resolve is to suck the life essence from each and every traveler it encounters. Though unhinged, Crimsule is a calculated and cunning creature, often befriending those it meets to get what it desires.

A long time ago, Crimsule was once a draconic monarch who ruled proudly over a worthy kingdom. Twas the day his son challenged his rule for the throne where everything would change. Crimsule accepted this challenge with a cocky demeanor, and thus a duel between father and son commenced under the falling sun. Ultimately by the end of it all, Crimsule fell to his knees. Defeated, the former monarch was forced to adhere to draconic traditions, and so his crown was passed onto his kin. Though the kingdom relished in his victory, Crimsule felt nothing but festering bitterness. Rage unlike no other unfurled itself within his soul, and so on that very night he murdered his son in cold blood. Without an ounce of remorse nor regret, he towered over the lifeless body, viewing it like an artist would their painting.

Crimsule was seized by the royal guards at the scene of his crime. Ridiculed, beaten and scorched, the draconics showed no mercy for his sin — going as far as to tear his wings from his body. Crimsules battered body was tied to a stake for all to see, but before he could perish in front of the roaring crowd, a draconic mage stepped forth to place a curse upon him. This curse imbued Crimsule with eternal life, but at the cost of his freedom and sanity. And so he was destined to be forever twined with the gemstone; embedded within the ground as a mere rock until the day where one would sacrifice a life to it. Even then, "freedom" was fleeting. Oh how far the descended dragon has fallen...
