If America refuses to institute universal healthcare, could we do universal health insurance.
Something like, its a insurance plan that everyone is opted into by default and after paying your deductible, the government would pay for your health care. And the good thing about this would be that, because it's comes from the federal government, every medical institution in the U.S would be in network. So you would never have to worry about needing to pay out of pocket to see a specialist. And if you wanted, you could still get a private insurance, which now has to complete with the state and would hopefully not screw you over as much.
Seems like a good compromise to me

Idea for an Avatars Au (not the blue people)
In this universe in the generations after Korra, the abilities to bend was becoming less and less common to the point only a third of the world population were benders. This was something that people noticed was happening but no one really had a plan for it. The then Avatar tried to do something akin to what avatar Korra did to restore the Air benders but it went horribly wrong. A plague ravaged the land that only affected benders. Most would die, but the few that survived would lose their bending forever. Because of this people blamed the avatar and they were forced to withdraw from the world and were never seen again. But now benders were effectively extinct, and a new avatar never awakened.
Thousands of years later, the Elemental age is ancient history. No new benders or avatars have appeared, and many doubt that humans were ever able to bend the elements. And with no avatar, the spirit world has been cut off and long forgotten. their world is quite similar to ours. Technology stagnated as humanity had to restructure their entire society and economy with no benders.
Then a child was born, and they were quite strange. They often spoke of imaginary friends and monsters they would meet in their dreams, and would sometimes appear in reality. And they felt that they had something important to do but not what it was. This person also had a friend, that was super into history and truly believed that humans once had the power to control the elements and were dead set on proving it to the world. (and maybe unlocking their bending ability too)
One day this person was out with their friend, who dragged them along to look for artifacts of the elemental age. It goes the same as how it goes, mostly nothing with the occasionally scrap that was vaguely hinted to the art of bending. When they get into a dangerous situation that could spell the end for one if not both of them. Coincidentally, the long dormant spirit Ravaa was near by and they felt the very miniscule amount of bender blood within this person and were able to attach themselves to them.
This person immediately activates the avatar state and rescues themselves and their friend with long forgotten elemental power.
A new avatar is born, and Ravaa communicates to them that they must succeed where the previous avatar failed as the world is so unbalanced that it is on the brink of total annihilation.

I just had the weirdest dream.
So I wake up and fall out of my bed. It's bright outside and all the clocks are flashing like they were unplugged. I check the time on my phone and it says it's 1 am. I'm confused as how is bright at 1 am but look and see the apocalypse outside, and not just that but there are super heroes. I walk out of the room I was in and now I'm in some circus\grade ball looking place. Everything is fine inside but it's chaos outside and when people walk past curtains they seem to be vaporized. I here something about the inside being the past and outside being the present or future. I turn and there's a woman welcoming me and she hands me candle, and I have to keep the flame lit like in the one episode of atla, I fail a couple times. Then I'm directed to a platform that feels very video gamey. It starts to move down but stops and I feel like I'm close to waking up, but I stay still at it starts moving again. Then I'm playing a 3rd person vr sonic game that I control with my feet. It's looks like sonic frontiers but on the PS3 and with more colors. And it's actually really fun. After the level it's says it was just a demo and to learn more go to some website. Sisters at work or editors at work or something. Also gooseworx was there voicing pomni in the advertisement.
I'm writing this down because I don't want to forget and also I actually want to play the sonic game again.

Narcissus rejected everyone due to being arrogant about his beauty, and was enamored/feel in love with his reflection at looked at it until he died.
Nartranssus desired love and would take basically anyone, but they felt they were too ugly to love. They avoided their reflection at all cost as they only saw the face of a disgusting monster.
But a god comes along and finds them, sobbing. The god with divine knowledge, knows that the "monster" was just a mask that was forced upon Nartranssus at birth. The god helps them remove the mask, it's agonizingly slow, but the god reassures them that the result is worth it. Eventually the mask comes off, and after some hesitation, Nartranssus sees their true face. And after truly seeing themselves for the first time, they finally know why people like looking at themselves in the mirror.
Narcissus never ascended to become Nartransssus. Narcissus died incomplete.

Ok, I will admit. I did not realize that the second amendment covered ammunition. That was my mistake, and I thank you for teaching me something today.
I would also like to add that I personally have never seen or heard anyone argue a similar point about ammunition, I will not deny that this argument may have been made before, although I doubt this comes up "every couple weeks", this argument has probably been discussed before if not multiple times.
And I will concede that I have no in-word experience, in-fact my digital experience is quite underwhelming. But I do believe that lethal force is rarely necessary, if incapacitation is possible. I will have to do more research on the effectiveness of non-lethal ammunition for self defense.
I still have some growing up to do, that is true. But at this moment, I see a lot of death in the news, deaths, that I believe, could have been prevented if the proper restrictions and protocols were in place.
I work in the school education system, and every time I hear about a school shooting, I shudder in fear at the fact that it could have happened in the very school I work at.
I hope I do not come off as conceited in my posts, I just wanted to express a thought that I had that I have never heard discussed before. Thank you for joining this dialogue, and I hope you have a pleasant day.
Guns!
Love em or hate them they're a huge part of American culture.
Many people believe guns should be heavily regulated or outright banned, while others will die before they'd consider getting rid of them.
You've probably heard many takes from both sides but I just had an idea that I think could actually work to help curb gun crime in America, without breaking the second amendment.
Outlaw lethal ammunition!
Just think about it, without bullets, guns are just heaps of plastic and metal. It's their ability to fire high speed, high power projectiles that makes them so dangerous. So if we get rid of that, guns become a lot safer. There are plenty of non-lethal or less than lethal ammunition types that people can use that can work just as well as lethal bullets for self defense. These things can still hurt definitely, and might be able to kill if you try hard enough, but thats way safer than the way things are now.
Of course people could still get lethal ammunition through extra legal means, but that would happen regardless if it was ammo or the guns themselves.
So I say, if America is unwilling to give up it's guns, than we must take away it's ammunition.

Starlight's story as a villan is actually really compelling when you think about it. But the execution fell flat at the end. On initial viewing, you may belive that Starlight wanted to destroy equestria over losing one friend, but that is not the case. It goes much deeper than that.
Starlight created her town after her friend sunburst left to canterlot after getting his cutie mark.
She built this town and removed everyone's cutie marks so that she wouldn't lose a friend like that again. This must have taken years of work, and who knows how many bits, its not an exaggeration to say that this may have been her life's work. But now she has a whole towns worth of "friends" and she has complete control. And its all destroyed as soon as Twillight shows up.
Suddenly the whole town that she built from the ground up turns on her and she is forced to leave. All her friends are gone, her life's work is now marred by cutie marks, she has no home, she has nothing… and its all Twilight's fault.
She then wanders equestria for MONTHS, trying to figure out what to do next. She could go back to her childhood home but that only brings up bad memories. No one is interested in what she has to say, especially if a princess decrys it. The only thing she can do is think, think, and plot how to get back at this "Princess of friendship."
Starlight learns about the special cutie mark connection twilight and her friends have, and with this she can finally take her revenge. Using starswirl's spell she'll break that connection and prevent Twilight frome ever meeting her friends. Its perfect, "You took my friends away, so I'll take your friends way"
Starlight has never heard of Twilight before she came to her village. She had little to no idea how important twilight and her friends were. The village was so out of the way, they may not have even been aware of the threats the mane six faced, let alone who defeated them, she probably thought it was Celestia or something. As far as Starlight knew, Twilight was just some random new princess that forces her morals onto everyone else. She didn't think that all of equestria would fall without twilight. And when twilight tries to tell her, she assumes she's being dramatic, why would she believe the fate of equestria would be determined by six random ponies?
Starlight wanted to get back at twilight, but she didn't realize that doing so would undoubtedly doom equestria. Starlight was just so angry at twilight, even when she saw the future she was making, she was still willing to create it.
Starlight didn't nearly destroy equestria because of a lost friend, she did it to get back at the person that took everything away from her, the person who completely contradicts her worldview, the person Starlight wanted to be. And that person was Princess Twilight Sparkle.
