people have been really nice about my lil goth family drawing and it's a silly thing to be so moved by but at the moment i'm kinda going through it in several ways but especially with my art and to see something i did (mostly) mindlessly as a bit of fun being appreciated like that has been very uplifting. thanks everyone <3

I don't think about the Roman Empire, I think about the disappearance of Bella Goth.
Before I embark on a complete portfolio revamp I thought I'd just do something fun that appeals to my inner 11 year old. Should I do Don Lothario and the Calientes next?

Sorry I kinda dropped swordtember, I had lots of cool ideas for it too so some of them will still see the light of day - I also have been wanting to draw lots of things with swords and armour in general so... you never know.

Swordtember Day 7 - Oracle
Inspired by a fairy tale I loved growing up, in which an old man's eyes are stolen by three fairy-like women and stored in apples. If you want her eyes to look into the future, she needs your eyes as payment.

No Swordtember Today
There will be more soon, I'll probably try and catch up on the weekend but I'm having a weird mental health day and don't feel like drawing after work :') Also it's too hot!! Also I feel like social media has been punishing my Swordtember posts for some reason and as much as I like drawing daily (for a challenge or not) I see no point in pushing myself to *post* daily - there's absolutely no incentive.
More swords coming soon!

Swordtember Day 5: Spymaster's Sword
Femme fatale in period inaccurate costume with a sword instead of a gun. Like if a medieval woman slayed.

Swordtember Day 3: [This Sword Belongs To A] Rogue
So not actually that focused on the sword this time but I wanted to draw a cat man with a goatee so I did. At least there's TWO swords I guess?

Swordtember Day 1: [This Sword Belongs To A] Witch.
Her name is The Raven, she appears to end fights with her Zweihänder called The Plume.
I really want to finish this challenge for once but I might only be able to do like 2 days or something... who knows. Maybe I'll surprise myself :>

who’s ur fav Incredible Ant charcter?
Oh wow I never thought I'd get asked about IA ahahah, ummm I think Bibi, it's a very superficial answer but when I first got to see the characters I wanted to cry because she was so cuuuuute!
But personality-wise I love Rhino because I love a gentle giant type character :) He's a bug himbo!

Hey, as someone who really wants to get into the industry but is still trying to build a portfolio of work but has no projects to work on. How would I go about that? For example Prop Design and Story boarding?
Hey anon,
First of all I just realised I have a bunch of messages just lying around in my inbox that I never ever saw so if you sent this like a year ago and I'm only replying now - I'm sorry!! But I thought I'd better answer late than never :)
The simple answer is - you can just make some projects up! A lot of stuff in my portfolio to this day is not from any professional projects but just self-initiated stuff. I have some character and prop designs in there that aren't from actual real shows, but I basically had ideas for shows that I'd like to see get made so I pretended I was working on them, and just came up with my own cohesive style for each one.
Personally I do this because I'd like to one day bite the bullet and pitch some of them, but I realise it might seem a bit intimidating coming up with an entire fake show of your own! The thing is, especially at this stage, it doesn't have to be the best thing since sliced bread. You're trying to get some art out there and show off your work, not flex your writing/storytelling muscles (although if you want to do that you totally can of course). You don't need to have a whole story written/figured out! You can literally just take a concept, e.g. "Alice in Wonderland but set in the 70s London punk scene" and that's plenty to work with!
For storyboarding, I'm not an expert on this but... YouTube is full with people making their own animatics at the moment, boarding excerpts from podcasts, let's play videos, etc. That, to me, seems like a perfect way to show your storyboarding chops. Some people will also board to bits from a film or show, but if you've actually seen the film or show it's very hard to not be influenced by it - perhaps your friends can pick out a clip from something you've never seen for you to board to! Go for clips that show comedy, action, or emotion, those are the big three things you want to hit - usually people have one or two that they're better at, so you can totally specialise.
Also, although I've pointed to YouTube as a resource, just a warning - a lot of the stuff on there that's labelled "animatic" is literally overboarded and borders on animation (some of it IS straight up animation), so bear that in mind. You shouldn't have to keyframe everything!!
I hope that helps a little, I know it's really intimidating to just be starting out in an industry full of incredible artists who all seem to have years of experience but you've got this! I had more animation than design work in my portfolio initially so no one considered me for design roles until I did exactly what I've just described, and did it a lot.
