Favorite Albums - The Great Milenko by Insane Blown Posse
Despite your predisposition towards ICP, please give this album a chance; it’s really fun with some killer one-liners. “He’ll eat monopoly and shit out connect four!”. The album is considerably consistent throughout, and is widely considered to be ICP’s ‘best’ album. I’ve heard a lot of ICPs other albums, but only this one I come back to often.

Really decent classic rock n roll band of the late 60s. All of these albums do not skip a beat and rock hard - I highly recommend this band and have nothing but basic praise for their work.

Psych rock on a weird level. 'Fixin-to-die' is an excellent and sombre sad track. Unfortunately I felt that much of their work was album-filler that did not stand up as strong in comparison to clearer 'big' tracks on the regarding albums.

Honestly, this is the sort of band I'd probably be pegged as to hate - but I really dug their first two records. Interesting and creative music.

Recent Listens - Bad (Edit: and Thriller) by Michael Jackson
Separating the art for the artist yada yada. There's little left to be said about this record, I don't have much I want to say either - it's a really great pop record. Don't think I'll listen to much more by MJ, but might look into it. ‘Man in the Mirror’ was also a sleeper hit for me.
Edit: I’m gonna give ‘Thriller’ a listen too, ‘cus Billie Jean is convincing enough. I’ll further edit this post to include it.
Edit: So I listened to ‘Thriller’ and felt that it was weaker in comparison to ‘Bad’. The non-singles songs were far more forgettable and the singles not as to my tastes as the ones from ‘Bad’. ‘Bad’‘s synths possibly dazzled me, where ‘Thriller’ lacked them in comparison.

Favorite Albums - Deltron 3030
Del the Funky Homosapien and Dan the Automator. This one never gets old for me, really funky fresh hip-hop and great back-beats. The sci-fi jargon can be a bit silly at times, but it's a lot of fun. The sequel album is decent too, but I prefer this record. I'm a fan of Del's earlier works too, but haven't heard a tremendous amount else by Dan - aside from his solo records (Kool Keith 'Dr Octagon' has quite the discog, so I'm saving that for a rainy day (I'm a big Ultramagnetic MCs fan and will eventually write something about one of their albums).

Recent Listens - Joy as an Act of Resistance by IDLES
I'm a big fan of IDLES first record, but this was a huge letdown for me because of the political spin on some songs. Sonically however, the album overall was okay to decent, but lacked variance - something the first record had in spades. Also, the repetition of Hemmingway's short story "Baby shoes for sale, never worn" got stale quick, as it's supposed to be a joke, and jokes aren't funny the second time you hear them, but I digress. I doubt I'll ever come back to this record, where as their first release I've heard countless times. Skip this one.

Recent Listens - Judas Priest
Old school heavy metal. They're second album 'Sad Wings of Destiny' is probably the weakest. My personal favorites were 'Stained Class' and 'Ram it Down', although I did feel that the second side of RiD was weaker, with the especially dorky cover of 'Johnny B. Goode'. Still, RiD's first side rocks really hard. I especially liked the instrumentals of 'Painkiller', and would rate the album highly overall if it weren't for the shrieky vocals at time, which I'm not a fan of. I'd always thought of JP as a butt-of-jokes band, what with the lead singer's "Leather Joy-Boy" style, but I'm very glad to have given them a chance. It's odd, as I think the band started okay to decent, and only improved in general with subsequent records. 'Ram it Down' made the grade and was burned to a CD for personal use, which I only do for my favorite albums, but I don't think I'll write an article on it - perhaps after a few more listens. I think the visual of a motorcycle with circular-saw wheels is pretty trite.

Favorite Albums - Fush Yu Mang by Smash Mouth
Hooo boy, this is a real hum-dinger of an album. Ignore the memes! Fush Yu Mang rules! Aside from 'walking on the sun', which I'd already heard a million times before and the dorky cover of War's 'Why can't we be friends?', most songs on this record will flip your lid. My favorites are 'Heave Ho' and 'Beer Goggles'. Proper hard ska-punk-rock-whatever, much less family friendly than, say, the Aquabats. Their album, Astro Lounge, was decent, but weaker in my opinion. Still, I may check out their third, as only the first two specifically were recommended to me by a close friend. ‘Nervous in the Alley’ is surprisingly dark considering how much of a joke Smash Mouth are usually seen as.

Recent Listens - Acts Of Fear And Love by Slaves
As a long time Slaves fan, I was pleased with this recent record. While not my favorite of theirs, I felt it was still fresh. I saw Slaves live a few months before their second album dropped, with Wonk Unit supporting (seen them a few times too). They put on a good show, so I’d recommend seeing them if you get the chance.

Radio
I’d like to set up a way of streaming what I am currently listening to on my PC to other people, like an internet radio station. I’ve been looking into it, but it seems complicated - I have little patience for tech problems. Still, I think it’d be neat.

Recent Listens - Stateless by Lene Lovich
Aside from the hit single ‘Lucky Number’, this record is pretty unimpressive. Low-production pop rock with nothing really worth mentioning, except for a particularly lousy cover of “I think we’re alone now” which fails to improve over Tiffany’s cover in any regard. I have no interest in listening to any more of her body of work.
