WHUMPTOBER 2025: PROMPTS LIST

Welcome to Whumptober 2025 — The Eighth Year!

WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation CHALLENGE (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are four prompts for each day of the month, giving 124 for you to play with! There is also a list of 18 alternative prompts that can be subbed in for any day to give participants as much creative freedom as possible.

All prompts are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts into your work). Feel free to run rampant on interpretation. For example, if the prompt is “flame", you could create something with reference to a candle/campfire, your character could have suffered a burn, or the flame could be a reference to an ‘old flame’ - an old relationship. It’s truly down to you!

You can produce work in any media you choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, photo/video/audio edits, paper crafts and elaborate recommendation lists (not just a list of links). You can participate as much or as little as you want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

if anyone feels bad that their fic might contain medical inaccuracies, be comforted to know that whatever creative liberties you take with your medical scenes can never be worse than the one I just read. where one character tries to stop the bleeding on their friend's head wound by putting a tourniquet around their neck

I truly truly believe that the most important thing you can do in fandom is be a cheerleader. comment on fics. reblog art and rave in the tags. support the people making the things you want to see. this is how you keep a fandom alive. this is how you get more of what you want. you never know: that person could have decided to make more just because you liked it.

There was so much to do. Find Sylvie. Stop Dox. Prevent temporal meltdown. Maybe sit down and stop his head from spinning at all the timeslipping he'd been going through, if he ever found the time. (Doubtful.) So much to do and, ironically, so little time, but Loki still had to try. He was the one who'd put everyone in the TVA in such a mess, and now he had to fix it. Starting with…

The enormous list of tasks in his head sent him spiraling dizzily for a moment.

Well. Loki wasn't sure where to start, but he had to trust that he'd figure it out on the way to whichever crisis he found first.

"Come on; let's go," he muttered distractedly to Mobius, not even sparing the time to look over at his friend properly.

About to lead the way out of the loom observatory, Loki was stopped short when he felt a firm grip on his arm at the elbow. "Just a sec," Mobius implored, stepping around Loki to stand in front of him, "Before we get hit by any more distractions…"

In the next instant, Loki was being embraced. Arms tight around his back, hands grasping onto his shirt, and Mobius' head resting on his shoulder, right beside his own. Taken aback, Loki's startled mind could only focus on the feeling of the agent's hair brushing against his neck for a moment. Feeling his face warm, he was glad Mobius couldn't currently see him. "Wh-what's this for?" he stammered, slowly returning the hug.

"'Cause I want to." The simple answer was muffled slightly against his shoulder. Loki knew his shirt had to be filthy, but Mobius didn't seem to care in the slightest. On the contrary, he nestled in against him some more as he went on, "I wasn't sure if I'd ever see you again, Loki. I'm…really happy you came back."

Such a simple sentiment, but it made Loki's heart ache. He couldn't remember the last time anyone had wanted him around, let alone been so happy about it as to give him a hug. And just because they wanted to, no less!

Biting his lip as his eyes welled up, Loki tightened his grip around Mobius in return. All else that needed to be done faded into background noise. There was no doubt about it: this was the most important thing to be doing.

Seven-ish Sentence Sunday

The boys have a 'moment' in the next chapter of Abnegation...

“I understand,” he said with gravity, “I really do. And as meagre as it is, all I can offer for now is my assurance that, to me at least, no one and nothing takes precedence over you.” At that, his face screwed up for a brief moment, as though something occurred to him intrusively. “Well, there’s one fairly major thing,” he grudgingly admitted, “But that has been taken care of, for the time being.” Loki’s hand migrated to his shoulder as he shifted a little closer; the butterflies in Mobius’ belly promptly awakening from dormancy at nothing more than the other man’s proximity, and the pressure of his hand. “No one, Mobius,” he repeated intently, and his grip tightened for a moment as he jostled him for emphasis, something unnamable passing between them as they held each other’s gaze. Feeling breathless all of a sudden, Mobius was compelled to offer him a nod of acknowledgement, and Loki relaxed in satisfaction, giving his arm a gentle rub as he released him and carried on walking.  Under the thick sweater, his skin tingled from the fleeting contact.

Random fic-writing thought…

I’ve always admired an actor’s ability to improvise dialogue. Majorly. Like, the thought of even attempting it makes my blood run cold.

Terrifying.

And yet… nearly every verbal interaction I write in my fic is completely improvised. I go into it with no idea what I want them to say, and often I don’t even have an end goal in mind. I simply let the characters play off each other, and see where it takes me.

Just like an actor.

The only difference is I get to hide behind the safety of words on a screen, where no one can hear my voice shake, nor see my eyes go wide when I realise I’m not sure what should come next.

But… same thing, no?

August 21st is Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day  💕

Let’s be honest - we all forget to leave a comment sometimes. We don’t always go out of our way to click the “come talk to me on tumblr” link on AO3 to scream about the fic in the author’s inbox. On August 21st I encourage you to take a moment and show fanfic writers that you appreciate them!

How can you do it?

leave a comment and kudos on every fic you finish reading. Doesn’t matter how short. Doesn’t matter if you’re just repeating what other people have already said. Just be kind! Keysmashing, Caps Lock, and live commenting appreciated! (Bonus points if you leave a comment on every chapter)

ideas for what to put in a comment: one | two | three | four

floaty review box for ao3 (super useful for commenting as you read + it has a ‘review tips’ button if you feel stuck)

reblog ficlets, drabbles, fics, fic rec posts, etc. Put a nice comment in the tags. Remember that likes, while appreciated, don’t give the writer any exposure, meaning the posts don’t reach more people

go to your local fanfic writer’s inbox and talk to them about their fic of your choice. Let them know how long ago you’ve read it and what story point/sentence/scene still makes you smile when you think about it

send thank you messages to fic writers. In a world where you have to pay for almost everything, they’re supplying you with countless hours of free entertainment. It can get quite lonely without getting messages acknowledging the hours they spend writing stories - let them know their time and effort is appreciated

make fic rec posts and @ the authors whose fics you’re recommending! (believe me, fic writers love to see their stories in these posts)

create something inspired by a fic! You can draw fanart, make a moodboard or aesthetic post, or even write a song for the fic you love. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro doesn’t matter - the thought alone is what counts more than anything <3

buy the writer a coffee if they have a ko-fi page and you have some change lying around c: Caffeine keeps most fic writers awake when they struggle with a particularly slow draft or a difficult scene. More coffee, more words.

These are only some ideas out of the sea of possible ways to appreciate fanfic writers. On August 21st show the writers in your fandom(s) some love <3

Prompt Post: THEME

Hi there and welcome to my next post talking about the prompts for the upcoming Lokius Halloween event October 30th through November 2!

Today’s prompt category is themes! These are various things associated with Halloween that fit the Halloween theme.

COSTUMES

What’s more Halloween than dressing up as someone or something else?

Are they going to a costume party? A mission requiring outfits? Doing something undercover?

Are they dressing up for each other for a special occasion?

Are they attending a masquerade ball?

TRICK OR TREAT

The obvious Halloween event! Going door to door (or maybe desk to desk?) and collecting candy!

Or maybe Loki is playing tricks?

Or does Mobius have a treat in store for Loki?

Do they try to trick each other and it ends up being a treat for both?

CREATURE FEATURE

Who doesn’t enjoy a scary movie at Halloween?

Are they watching a movie together?

Are they (or one of them) the creature being featured?

Do they have an assignment where they are hunting down a creature?

The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed

Are they remembering lost loved ones? Frigga? Thor? Those on the lost timelines?
