So, things on the archive have been a bit dicey the past month as the Mods have been investigating the ongoing DDoS attack and various options available to us to mitigate both the current attack and future attacks. I’ll lead with the big thing.

Planned Archive Downtime

The archive will be down for a bit as we configure the new security settings on the back end. The downtime could be as little as a few minutes or up to 72 hours and we anticipate some people will get access sooner than others. We don’t like it, but it’s for the best, and will hopefully allow us to resume full accessibility to all members.

When Is the Site Going Offline?

Approximately 9PM EDT, May 13 (Tuesday evening). While you have a couple of days, you should start preparing immediately.

Prepare? What Do You Mean By That?

Mostly, just be forewarned that the downtime is coming. Don’t panic if you can’t access the site or receive an error message.

You might want to take the time to download any ePubs for fics you are reading or plan to read soon. Likewise, while we don’t anticipate this will impact the site’s content, it’s never a bad idea to back up important things, such as story comments.

What’s the Security Solution You’re Implementing?

A very common, highly trusted, and broadly used security solution called Cloudflare. It’s the same that AO3 implemented following their DDoS attack. We have completed troubleshooting this solution on our test site.

How Did You Troubleshoot?

Once we got Cloudflare up and running, the Mods went to the test site and tried to break it. We wanted to replicate the errors we initially experienced, like the Forbidden/Forbidden 403 error message. A solution that works for only some people isn’t a viable long-term solution.

This is an imperfect process, but we were able to post stories, comments, news items, images, emojis, and all other normal archive activity without incident, while maintaining the strictest security settings available on the back-end.

What Happens if I Still Experience an Error Once Everything Is Back Up?

All members should continue reporting any unusual errors, messages, and so forth as they occur to elysianfieldsarchive@gmail.com. 

How Do I Stay Updated While The Site Is Down?

Important updates will be made on all of EF’s active social platforms: Instagram, Bluesky, Threads, and Facebook. You may also join our Discord server. Please note that only EF members are allowed in the Discord server, and your server name must match your EF username.

Why Was EF Targeted?

No clue, and we’re not going to speculate on who is behind it or their motives. Doesn’t matter — Spuffy always walks through the fire and emerges stronger. So will we.

I was wondering how you feel about people writing fanfiction of your works, there's not a lot out there but they are some fun stories inspired by your own on Ao3.

once an artist puts their art onto this timeline it begins to change and bloom and grow in unexpected ways. that is the wonderful thing about the trot of a writer or painter or director buckaroo.

fan fiction is just a part of the original art it is a flower blooming that i never knew was planted just an exciting seed that makes another flower then another until we have a garden that we are all sharing and watering together.

hello! I've recently joined the fandom and I heard that the archive was the only one active that focuses solely on spuffy. however, I am not able to access the site. I tried to use a VPN and it worked, but the last post on tumblr is about problems on the site, so I thought it was fit to send a question about it.

Right now, we encourage you to continue using a VPN. The site has been under a DDOS attack for a week and some of our countermeasures have temporarily impacted accessibility to certain people. We're working on a full fix, but for the time being, a VPN is your best bet.

DDoS Attack

As some of you may have noticed, the site has been performing more slowly than usual the last few days, culminating in several spotty outages today (April 27). We looked on the back-end and have concluded EF is under a DDoS attack, and have taken the precautions suggested by our host to help address it. 

The measures we’ve enacted are designed to mitigate illegitimate attempts to access Elysian Fields. At this time, we do not know how long these measures will be necessary, or if they will be enough to address the issue. We are deeply saddened to hear that after 22 years, the oldest remaining Spuffy archive will be closing up shop.

In the aughts, the internet was awash with Spuffy archives, some niche and some come-one-come all. Over the years, we’ve lost most of them, but The Spuffy Realm remained. It was a one-woman operation which is beyond impressive for an archive of its size. It also maintained the same ownership throughout the duration of its entire run, and while activity waxed and waned over the years, the archive itself remained stalwart. Its Find-a-Fic forum alone has helped countless fans locate and discover more than 25 years of fanworks spanning our fandom’s long history, never mind the works actually housed on the archive.

According to the message on the site, the archive will remain until the end of the month. As its loss will undoubtedly result in some works being forever gone, take this opportunity to peruse the library, find something perhaps you haven’t seen before, and download those works for posterity.

As for preservation, we have already reached out to Open Doors to see if the archive can be imported, but there are no guarantees. It depends on the owner’s capacity, and considering the reason TSR is closing is a death in the family, we understand that capacity might not exist. Self-care comes first, and we wholly support Pari, TSR's founder and owner, in whatever decision she makes.

More than anything, we wish Pari all the best and thank her profusely for everything she gave the fandom.

What's important is that Buffy like to fuck, it's canon, when Buffy and Riley are in the sex spell they're asked if they had fun and Buffy was having the time of her life wheras Riley was scared. ["Where the Wild Thing Are" 4x18]

It's been less than three years since Elysian Fields Archive started accepting artwork-only and multimedia submissions along with Spuffy fic (at the request of @isevery0nehereverystoned, who gifted the archive with its inaugural comic!). Over that time, though, we've enjoyed an abundance of artwork-only works, as well as works that mix mediums. Our current Features celebrate those works that combine different forms of storytelling. It's an embarrassment of Spuffy riches, and we are HERE FOR IT!
