Summer has been hectic, I'll be going back to the city tomorrow and then still need to prepare moving out but I like what I did so far with my practice sketches of the duchess / priestess so I wanted to share!

Also I love how Ewing writes characters, the introspection and tackling more on their inner struggles rather than action like finally some good fucking food 😩

Still unsure about the confrontation of the spoiler villain in the latest issue but hearing that the series is apparently supposed to run for 12 then ig I can let that slide, if not for that, then I would have liked to see a progression but also not exactly a monster of the week since I think that formula would detract from the main point of wanting the kids not to be like the X-Men under Charles

But speaking of the kids I love them!!! Most of all I love how grounded their writing and dialogue feels.

Burn is an essential part of Clair Obscur's gameplay.

It's the only status effect innately featured in all characters' skill sets - some party members are able to inflict it (Maelle, Lune, Monoco), and others have skills benefitting from it (Sciel's Searing Bond, and Gustave/Verso's From Fire). Through the use of pictos, burn can even provide additional healing, as well as bonus to damage and critical chance.

Maelle's skillset especially heavily leans into making use of fire - it's the burning enemies that allow her to switch to Virtuose Stance and get a hold of its insane 200% damage bonus. In the late game, the Burning Canvas becomes one of her strongest skills, with the possibility of achieving the highest damage multiplier among all her non-gradient abilities (info from here).

I saw the LA clip of Nani telling Lilo to grow up and face reality and it's just so fucking crap and I have how the audience is eating it up because it's "realistic".

That scene in the OG is my favorite because not only are we also told about what Ohana means, the way Nani calms down shows how she holds that principle

To me, it just shows how much their parents must have loved them, how supportive they were, of encouraging their daughters to follow their dreams and to embrace themselves no matter what people say. They loved them so much that Nani, who is 19, still values their words to heart.

That's not unrealistic at all, that's just love.

And hell, if you're still hanging over that, that scene literally happened because Nani, in her frustration (which is valid) forgot and that's why Lilo said what she said. She loves her parents, loves her sister, but she's not perfect.

Nani never felt burdened by Lilo, [ we literally have Bubbles counter back at her with "She needs you? More like you need her." ] And her love for her sister is deliberately used against her by the SS.

Am I wrong? Is my willingness to care for my sister not enough? Is family not enough? Is wanting to keep my family together wrong?

Are questions Nani's forced to reckon with. She struggles with caring for Lilo, and she also faces against the Social Services challenging her family's principles.

We should recognize that what the Social Services are doing disaligns with their purposed goal. It's so clear to see that Nani is all too clear of wanting to stay with her sister but rather than offering actual support, they elect to separate them because it's "for the best".

The LA sanitizes that and it's frustrating because it's so obvious what they're trying to do.
