we do need to revisit the wording of "you can't have your cake and eat it too" because i don't think it clearly enough conveys that it's more that you can't simultaneously retain a cake and also get to consume it (which would render you cakeless). for years i was like But why not....it's my cake....?

The only type of non-lab grown meat it is ethical to eat is capitalist. The unfortunate side effect of full communism will be that there will no longer be any ethical, non-lab grown meat. One of the few circumstances where the only ethical consumption is under capitalism.
Landed at a sort of tenative ground on the whole veganism thing where I only eat animals I think have it coming

TMP Episode #21: Breaking Ground
Loved loved loved this episode. Thoughts
A lot of good anti-capitalist rhetoric. E.g. Sam's concern the job is evil, Celia sarcastically stating that Sam should stay with the OIAR, the statement giver commenting about the UK as a failed imperial power.
The statement implies a lot about the Magnus Institute. It harnesses emotions; functions like a real research institute, with collaboration, research, and an approval process; has some major goal, although I'm not sure what that goal is exactly.
The statement also implies a lot about the supernatural in the setting. The supernatural is connected to emotions. The supernatural can be harnessed. Some places, called loci, have supernatural occurrences and they can be either artificial or natural.
I didn't know the Millennium Dome was a real thing, but I clocked pretty quickly to it being some building to celebrate the change of millennia.
The Magnus Institute seems so stuffy, so I wonder whether someone also objected that the millennium actually changed in 2000-1, rather than 1999 to 2000 lol.
I couldn't make out Gwen's statement nor the conversation between Ink5oul and Error.

With the recent Supreme Court ruling, the US could easily be a monarchy. All Biden needs to do is send Seal Team Six to assassinate opposition members of the Supreme Court, as he is now legally allowed to do.
Appointing a successor might be harder, but it's not clear to me that appointing a successor falls outside the manifest or palpable authority of the President. It's at least something that could be argued before the court.
If that fails, Biden could just start threatening Congresspeople and governors until they pass a constitutional amendment tying the Presidency to the Obama family. As long as he uses the military to do so, he is not criminally liable.
the best time to vote is in the primaries, the second best time is now
#shitpost#electoral politics#i in no way explicitly endorse Biden using his new dictatorial powers to actually set up a dictatorship#but becoming a monarchy has never been easier for the US#I wonder what type of succession law you would need to have Michelle Obama become president#Maybe first to Obama then to spouse then to oldest child from the marriage then to child's spouse then to oldest child from that marriage

A true work of art.
"I use Linux as my operating system," I state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. He swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision. "Actually", he says with a grin, "Linux is just the kernel. You use GNU+Linux!' I don't miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "I use Alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU Coreutils, or any other GNU code. It's Linux, but it's not GNU+Linux." The smile quickly drops from the man's face. His body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth and drops to the floor with a sickly thud. As he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!" Coolly, I reply "If windows were compiled with GCC, would that make it GNU?" I interrupt his response with "-and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. Even if you were correct, you won't be for long." With a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. He lies on the floor, cold and limp. I've womansplained him to death.
