And good question! I'm honestly not sure how I got where I'm at, but I've been "popular" a handful of times in the past in different fandoms, and in my experience there seem to be a few different factors:

•Passion!! Almost every instance I've had where I've gotten fandom popular have been when I'm at my most passionate as an artist. I don't make stuff for notes or recognition, I make stuff for me because I like it! I think people can sense that kind of thing, and it makes your ideas easier to resonate with.

•Originality/interpretation! Obviously, it's impossible to be 100% original in this day and age, but that's where your own personal interpretation can really shine! Showing off your own skill sets and strengths with the ideas you put forward really help people gain interest in the things you create. Don't try to just imitate other popular artists, try to create something that is all YOU! Make art you are proud of, make your mark on every piece! There is only one of you in the whole world, show everyone what makes you special through your work!

•Storytelling! I've noticed people are far more likely to engage with art that they can really sink their teeth into. My own specialty is character-driven world building, where I use my art and skills as a writer to create a universe people can explore through my work! Putting effort into writing out your ideas for people to read creates intrigue and investment in your ideas!

•Kindness! Actually try and put effort into being accessible with your audience. Reply to comments, asks, DMS, and engage with fellow artists! Obviously, it becomes harder to do the more presence you have, but it's important to take time to engage with the people that care about you and the things you create. Being approachable really helps develop a community, which in turn helps to uplift and highlight other artists, too!

All in all, I'm by no means a professional at getting popular. I'm extremely fortunate to have the following that I do, and I am so grateful to have so many people who love my ideas and my art! These are just a few tips that I find make it a easier to get started, at the very least.

As for the folks who follow me—what made you decide to engage with my art? Is there some other reason I'm missing? Any other advice you might have to offer? Feel free to let me know in the replies if anything else comes to mind! I have a hard time accepting just how much reach I have sometimes, so I may be a bit out of touch with what makes my work appealing. 🤣 Anyway, good luck anon!! I believe in you! ♥️

I was wondering, what helped you most when learning how to draw sonic characters?

SHAPES!! All of the Sonic characters have very strong shape language, making it easy to break them down into various pieces that can be used to base your sketches on. Circle for head, bean shape for torso, cylinders for limbs, yadda yadda. Try drawing over your favorite character with shapes! It'll help you get an idea of how to apply then to your own art.

Art tools of choice? Krita? With your sketchwork, specifically referencing the soDADow au sketches with Stellar, I assume you are using digital marker? I just love you line weight and variation! Some look like marker, others look like pencil. Would love to know!

I mainly use Clip Studio Paint (EX in specific, but that's bc I like animating)! I use whatever brushes spark my fancy, and I even make some of my own sometimes when I can't quite find that perfect brush. This isn't a PERFECT list, and it certainly doesn't cover EVERYTHING, but here's a starter pack of the brushes I often use for CSP!

Eggman, I guess? He's Metal Sonic 2.0, but based on Super Sonic instead of regular Sonic. He doesn't have parents in a biological sense, he was simply created!

Genuinely thinks of himself as a hero and actually admires Sonic, but in a fucked up kind of way. Has a VERY strange moral compass.

Almost always in a good mood. Perpetually sunshine-y.

If he were to be a Pokemon, he'd be a pikachu. Do with that what you will.

Lacks empathy in the traditional sense. Doesn't quite grasp the "human" experience, and finds a lot of the more negative, emotional traits of people to be uncool or unappealing.

Sees himself as the savior for the miserable, lonely and depressed (pathetic). Oh, those poor unfortunate souls...

Is generous, considerate, and helpful on the surface, making him quite popular with folks around Green Hill. He has a little fan club growing, which he enjoys a bit too much.

Is the new face for the Robotnik Brand! Eggman has taken up merchandise after his time as a toy maker, and has a whole side brand that he's got Flux posing as a mascot for. It's headlined by Flux to keep Eggman's ownership of the business secret. Think t-shirts, sports drinks, shoes... Pretty much anything marketable!

The merch has some sinister, secondary mind control effects. Shh, don't tell!

Flux was originally programmed to be Sage's protector and new best friend, so she is the one person Flux really, genuinely cares about. When he's back at Eggman's secret lair, he's usually fawning over Sage and showering her in gifts. He's like an overprotective, adoring brother to her. She kind of hates it.

How does Flux move between his metal and organic forms? Is it poof ✨magic✨? Tied to his will? Tied to his emotions? I need to know.

He's kind of a mix between the hosts from Westworld (he looks and feels very real to other Mobians when he's in his "organic" form) and like. The liquid metal bod that T-1000 rocks from Terminator 2.

Basically, if wounded, his inorganic nature becomes very clear. Transforming between both forms is tied to his will, and he can shift parts of his body into weapons on a whim while keeping the organic appearance of the rest of his form (i.e., turning his arm into a laser cannon or smth).

Also, fun fact! His smile is based off of Eggman's own signature grin, not Sonic's! 😁
