Ike does something a bit reckless because he's 20 and he's beaten a goddess (not wantonly reckless, but a touch overconfident in what he is capable of doing, like some physical task he should be able to do, but has never done before). Said thing nearly kills him.

What is the thing? How do you think Soren/Ranulf would respond?

Ooof. I think it’s fair to assume that whatever he does is in the service of helping others. Perhaps he comes across someone in peril, like, getting swept down a rushing river. And Ike strips off his armor and jumps in to try to grab that person and pull them to safety.

Only… he underestimates the strength of the current, and nearly winds up having his skull cracked against the rocks.

As for how his boyfriends respond…

Well, obviously their first priority would be to rescue him from the edge of death. Soren would fuss over Ike while healing him, life flashing before his eyes, in a state of wide-eyed, breathless panic. Ranulf would be equally worried, but better at staying calm.

At first, Ranulf would wordlessly follow all of Soren’s shrieked instructions, like grabbing extra cloth to stem the bleeding, applying vulnerary to the smaller cuts and bruises while Soren uses a heal staff to take care of the deep gash at the back of his scalp, etc. But once Ike is no longer at risk of dying, Ranulf would have to step up and bully Soren into taking some calming breaths before he hyperventilates.

While Ike recovers and slowly claws his way back to consciousness, Ranulf would be talking Soren through the objective facts: Ike is out of danger, he’s not going to die, and clinging to him is not going to help him wake up faster.

As for the aftermath… I imagine Soren might be quietly upset at Ike for a while. Even though he doesn’t blame Ike, per se, he doesn’t know how else to process the sheer magnitude of emotions warring in his chest. Ranulf might try to lighten the mood with some bad jokes, but they would only serve to make Soren madder.

How can Ranulf joke around about the fact that Ike almost died? Soren is furious, and though he tries to keep his tongue still, eventually it all comes to a head and he lashes out at the both of them.

So they give Soren some space.

Despite his jokes, Ranulf is still shaken, though his reaction is a bit more delayed. One of his jokes gets a little too dark, a little too revealing about his fears of Ike’s eventual demise, and Ike holds him while his laughter turns teary and wobbly, until he’s sobbing silently in his lover’s arms. And Ike just strokes his back and peppers his head with kisses.

Perhaps Soren stumbles upon them as they’re having their moment. His anger has given away to grief, and he can’t bear spending another second not touching Ike. His fear-addled brain needs irrefutable proof that his lover is, in fact, still alive.

So Soren gets to join the cuddle pile.

Maybe it prompts a conversation between the three of them, about what happens after Ike’s death. Not in that moment, but a few days later, when the memory isn’t so tender.

Barring a horrific accident, Ike will most likely die before them. Soren and Ranulf age at a third of the rate of beorc and have longer lifespans. Although Ike is the youngest of the trio, he already looks like the oldest.

Ranulf will probably joke about how one day Ike will be a middle-aged man with two young looking beauties hanging off either arm. All the pervy grandfathers out there will envy him.

Soren does not want to have the conversation, not ever. But it has to happen.

Ranulf might say that he hopes that Soren and he can continue traveling together. Soren will get all flustered but tell him he has no objections, if that’s what Ran wants, all tsundere-style.

Ike loves that idea, and tells them so.

But too soon, Soren changes the subject. He can’t imagine a future without Ike in it, not now. And so Ike and Ranulf let the matter drop.

There comes a time where Ranulf can joke about the time Ike almost drowned without Soren flinching. And they do revisit that conversation about Ike’s death a few times, slowly chipping away at it a bit at a time.

But that is a long way off.

At that moment, they’re more concerned with living in the moment, and finding comfort in each other’s presence. And if they cling a little tighter to Ike at night for a few weeks after his near death experience, well, Ike sure isn’t complaining.

Deciding which of the half dozen story ideas I want to focus on is always so frustrating. I get stuck in this state of stasis that feels impossible to break out of.

Ugh.

I don’t think anyone wants this, but I have all these ideas for an a/b/o au for Tellius and by Ashera I need to write them down

Btw I do not intend to write a full fic for this, but then again, I have said that before and failed miserably. Anywho, all the details are under the cut

Be aware that this is an a/b/o au, and some of the below stuff gets kinda nsfw, as is usual for the genre

- It would primarily focus on Soren. Soren and Pelleas are the twin heirs of Ashnard and Almedha

- There’s no Lehran’s Medallion

- Soren is an omega and Pelleas a beta. This is a problem for Ashnard, who believes in alpha supremacy, and refuses to pass his crown to a beta or an omega

- Ashnard wants to believe that Pelleas is just a late bloomer, and that he has yet to present as an alpha. However, every year, it seems less and less likely

- Male omegas and female alphas are very rare. They are also the only ones whose presentation can be discovered from birth, due to their genitalia. Male omegas possess penises, vaginas, and ovaries, whereas female alphas possess penises, testes, and a vagina. Male alphas and female omegas present at some point in adolescence or early adulthood

- At some point, Ashnard tries to set Soren up with Petrine, an alpha, because she’s also Branded and he thinks her offspring might be strong enough to be his heir

- Soren and Petrine find the idea equally repugnant, so nothing happens

- Greil and Elena still live in Daein, Greil is still one of the Four Riders, and Ike is slowly but surely following in his father’s footsteps

- However, Ike is supposedly a beta, despite his superior size and strength, he has yet to present, and while Greil and Ike don’t care, Ashnard mostly ignores him, because he only values the strength of alphas

- Soren is mostly left to his own devices, due to the fact that Ashnard has no use for him— at least not yet. If Pelleas fails to present, then Ashnard expects Soren to provide a strong alpha heir. Because Ashnard isn’t interested in him, Soren spends a lot of his time disguised as a no-name servant. He works with Greil and Ike sometimes, trying to investigate and undermine his father’s various malicious schemes

- While in disguise, Soren also goes to great lengths to mask his scent, so he can be mistaken for a beta

- When a mission goes horribly wrong, Soren ends up sweating so hard that his scent suppressant wears off and his omega scent tiggers Ike’s first rut, which means Ike finally presents as an alpha at the age of 20

- Soren, to his own chagrin, is somewhat of a mama’s boy. His relationship with Almedha is complicated. She is overbearing and clingy, and Soren can’t stand being smothered. At the same time, however, he is super protective of her, and hates anyone that speaks poorly of her. Ever since losing her laguz powers, Almedha is a bit of a laughing stock, ignored by Ashnard and ridiculed by the rest of Daein. Soren cannot help but empathize with her, since he is also treated poorly due being an omega and Branded

- Pelleas isn’t Branded, plus there was a possibility that he might be an alpha, so he was the favorite of Ashnard growing up. However, Pelleas has quickly fallen out of Ashnard’s favor, due to his weak personality. Pelleas still wants to impress Ashnard, though, which leaves him with some complicated daddy issues

- Pelleas’s relationship with Almedha is far less complicated. He is also a mama’s boy, like in canon, and unlike Soren, he’s not ashamed of it

- I also want to add some Pelleas/Micaiah romance somehow, but I’m not sure how

- Micaiah is the Apostle, and the omega Empress of Begnion, and I want Pelleas to become her consort

- Elincia would also be an omega, and maybe at one point, Ashnard floats her as a possible spouse for Pelleas, but since Pelleas isn’t presenting, nothing comes of it. I can see them becoming friends, though

- After Ike presents as an alpha, Soren feels conflicted, because it means that Ashnard would approve of him as a potential husband, but on the flip side, Soren isn’t convinced that Ike returns his feelings, and he’s too afraid to ask. Yes, this is despite the fact that it was Soren’s scent that finally triggered Ike’s presentation

Anyway, that’s all my thoughts for the moment. I have no actual plot in mind. I would also like to include Ranulf and the rest of the Greil Mercs somehow, but I don’t yet know how.

I have decided to revisit my idea for an omegaverse Tellius AU…

My thoughts will be listed under the cut. Beware that it will get spicy. I am still undecided whether I want to flesh this out into an actual fic, but it has currently made a home in my brain, so feel free to let me know your ideas.

How a/b/o dynamics work:

Alpha men and beta men are indistinguishable from birth and through childhood. Some men will simply “present” as an alpha at some point in their late teens or early adulthood by going into a rut.

Same goes for omega women and beta women, who will “present” by going into heat.

Omega men and alpha women are rare, and have a mix of male and female sex characteristics. Omega men possess a penis, a vagina, and a uterus, and develop a more masculine figure during puberty. Alpha women possess a penis, testes, and a vagina, and develop a more feminine figure during puberty.

Rut is a state of hyper-aggression, where alphas will be consumed by the desire to scare off any perceived competitors of their chosen love interest, claim an omega with a bonding bite, and stockpile as much food and water as they can. It happens once a year, in the spring, and lasts about a week. However, a shorter rut can be triggered by an omega in heat.

Heat is a period in which an omega is fertile, and is consumed by the desire to reproduce. Before heat comes pre-heat. Pre-heat is also known as the nesting stage, wherein an omega will find and decorate a safe space for them to hide away during their heat. This lasts a day. The heat itself lasts 2-3 days. Omegas in heat lose all interest in anything but sex, which is why alphas are driven to stockpile food and water, so that they can force their omega to hydrate and feed themselves. Heats happen once a season (every 3 months), and their first one is generally triggered by proximity to a compatible alpha.

Certain dynamics show up more often in certain laguz tribes. Most herons are omegas and betas, with few alphas, whereas hawks and crows are dominated by alphas.

In beorc, omegas are the most likely to give birth to alphas and omegas, though they also give birth to betas. Betas generally only give birth to other betas, but occasionally they also give birth to omegas and, more rarely, alphas.

Alpha/omega and beta/beta are the most common relationships. Alpha/beta and beta/omega couplings rarely result in children, so they are considered ill-suited for one another.

In beorc society, only alphas are considered suitable leaders. The one exception is the Apostle, a position only ever taken by omega females. And even then, they have to share power with the alpha senators.

About the story/plot/characters:

There’s no Lehran’s Medallion, Ashera and Yune are worshipped as the twin goddesses of the dawn and dusk.

Misaha is never assassinated.

Sephiran is the reincarnation of Lehran, Misaha’s Branded nephew, and a close adviser to the Apostle.

Soren and Pelleas are the twin heirs of Ashnard and Almedha. Soren is an omega and Pelleas a beta.

Despite being the elder sibling, Soren looks like Pelleas’s younger brother.

Ashnard believes in alpha supremacy and doesn’t want a beta inheriting the Daein throne, so he is hoping that Pelleas is just late to present as an alpha.

Ashnard and Almedha had a passionate love affair at first, but then Ashnard lost all interest in Almedha when she presented as an omega. However, he continues to keep her around hoping that she might produce an alpha heir for him. However, it’s exceedingly rare for dragon laguz to get pregnant, and thus far, it looks like Soren and Pelleas will never have any more siblings.

If Pelleas doesn’t present as an alpha, Ashnard’s Plan B is to find Soren a strong alpha bride to knock him up and hopefully provide the alpha heir he desires.

For now, though, Soren is mostly ignored by his father and left to his own devices.

Soren is still Branded, but Pelleas is not. In this AU, the Branded can transform into an altered state (which for Soren looks like some sort of weredragon creature), but it is far more difficult to control those transformations. For this reason, Soren spent his childhood kept out of the public eye.

Soren was sickly as a child, and Almedha entrusted the help of Elena, who is a heron Branded, to be Soren’s personal nurse. This meant that Soren was sent to live with Elena and Gawain whenever he fell ill. His most treasured memories are the times he spent with Ike and Mist.

Once grown up, Soren starts trying to undermine his father by aiding a secret rebellion faction within the Daein army, led by none other than Gawain. Their current objective is to investigate the recent influx of feral laguz within Daein’s borders. Other members of this underground group include Ike, Mist, Titania, Oscar, Boyd, Rolf, Mia, Ilyana, Zelgius, Zihark, Rhys, Sothe, Ranulf, Lethe, Mordecai, and, eventually, Jill.

They take part in laguz hunts, aiding the escape of ordinary laguz and capturing the feral ones for observation.

Crimean princess Elincia and Begnion Apostle Micaiah are both omega, and invited to Daein to attend some political function, because Ashnard hopes that one of them will trigger Pelleas’s rut. Neither does, but Micaiah becomes an ally to Soren’s cause, putting him in touch with the Serenes royal family, whose healing galdrar might restore feral laguz to their normal state.

Ships/romance/dynamics:

The focus would be on Ike/Soren. Ike thought himself to be a beta, but after a harrowing battle wherein Soren is forced to shapeshift to save both of their lives, Ike finds himself hiding in close quarters with Soren, whose scent suppressants have worn off, and it triggers his first rut.

Ranulf (a beta) starts as Soren’s love rival (Soren thinks Ike and Ranulf are secretly dating) and eventually they all become poly, with Soren and Ranulf becoming close platonic partners and Ike as their very confused but grateful boyfriend.

Sothe presents as an alpha upon meeting Micaiah. Pelleas also wants to win Micaiah’s heart. Their rivalry over her eventually spirals into a love/hate relationship with a bunch of unresolved sexual tension. Micaiah marries them both.

Boyd (an alpha) and Mist (an omega) are an established couple.

Jill (an alpha) begins as a possible bride for Soren, but neither of them are interested in the other (because they’re both gay). However, Jill eventually joins Soren as an ally, and meets Lethe (an alpha) and the two develop an unconventional alpha/alpha enemies to lovers relationship.

Geoffrey (a beta) is Elincia’s secret lover. Because he’s not an alpha, he isn’t considered a suitable option for her, but Elincia doesn’t care.

Zelgius (an alpha) meets Micaiah’s uncle Sephiran, an older omega, and becomes determined to woo him, to Sephiran’s great amusement. Gawain awkwardly attempts to wingman.

Omega siblings Reyson and Leanne both have their respective alpha husbands (Tibarn and Naesala) there to support them.
