Genuinely don't understand anyone who hates Angel. I can understand not liking him but... hate him? He's a pathetic wet cat that lurks in the corner and can't mimic human behavior. He's very autism. I want his gender. He's blorbo shaped.

Neither of them can remember what they were bickering about, words shriveling up and dying in their throats as they stare.

"Why it's that Angel fella!" Angel barely had enough chance to shove the bag in his hands into Spike's before he's embracing a familiar woman, her husband behind ehr with a happy smile. "Good to see you son."

"Mom, you're gonna break him in half!" A familiar giggle squeezed Angel's long dead heart into mush, and somehow it was Fred to pull her mother away, her smile blinding as Angel wobbled in place. "He just got back from a trip."

"Oh we know the feeling!" Fred's mother laughed, slipping an arm around her daughter as Angel shook her husbands hand. "Y'all have done well for yourselves, and picked up a new team member?"

"Name's Spike luv." Spike purred, his free hand reaching out to shake hers, going s far as to kiss her knuckles. "Pleasure is all mine..?"

"Trish, and my husband is Roger." The older woman blushed at the gesture. "You're an absolute peach."

"On my best day." He winked, shaking Roger's hand before stepping back beside Angel.

"Well, we're going to see Fred's lab before we have to leave, our flight is in a few hours," Roger tipped his head toward his daughter and Wesley, the former Watcher having plastered on a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "If we have time we'll check in with you boys."

"Sounds good, now come on you two, time's a wasting." Fred giggled, Roger and Trish both missing the absolute look of anger from Angel as she ushered them away and up the stairs across the lobby. Neither Angel nor Spike could come up with the words to register what had just happened, for now busying themselves with delivering the head they'd been able to fetch in Rome before going to Angel's office and straight to the liquor cabinet. Spike wasted no time in drinking, idly listening to Angel upgrading the trip for the Burkle's as the whiskey burns its way down his throat, trying to drown all those nasty little feelings that were beating against the inside of his chest. He doesn't have to ask how Angel is doing, the poorly suppresed anger scenting the air so heavily it made poor Harmony jump when she entered to drop some files off, the younger vampire fleeing with a nervous smile as Angel stared at the paperwork.

It's no surprise when Wesley joins them a while later, the three sitting in silence as time passed by in a blur. They don't know what to do next, what to say to the god who had thankfully fucked off for now, so they just sit and drink.

It's all they can really do right now.

sorry but literally the first thing angel ever said to spike was "finally, a man! you have no idea how boring it is only sleeping with women. we can have some fun together" then took him on a date (wedding slaughter) but spike was so head over heels for drusilla that he did not pick up on any of angel's signals and was just like "well i had a really good time watching you murder people, it was really funny, and—no thank you, i'm not hungry—but anyway, i wanna go hang out with dru." and that hurt angel's feelings so he had spiteful sex with dru to hurt spike's feelings back. and neither of them ever got over it
