I’m avoiding doing laundry by restarting GX dub and of course watching anything Yu-Gi-Oh related always gets me thinking about your wonderful work! I know you aren’t even close to finished with Yugi and her story but I have some random questions I want to ask. Please don’t feel like you have to answer! I’m just very aware of the fact that if I don’t ask them I’m going to be thinking about them for the next week. (I’m using the dub names because I don’t want to fight autocorrect today.)

1. If Jaden is adopted by Yugi will she know about shadow games? Will she know about the previous adventures her parents had? Or will she be sheltered from those things until she fights spirit Jinzo?

2. Would Jaden be able to use her powers or understanding of shadow games to help against any of the shadow riders (season 1 villains) because I’ve realized that in GX the first two opponents try to get the games to spin in their favor by either using hostages to distract their opponents or by knowing what their decks will look like. (Granted Camula knowing what is in everyone’s deck isn’t very different from Pegasus using his eye but I digress).

3. How would Jaden react to someone stealing Yugi’s deck and pretending to be her while dueling? (I might have asked this already but the scenario is very funny to me)

4. Would we see more involvement from adults when the spirit keys are introduced? I can’t see Jaden not telling her parents about is going on or them not being contacted when she passes out after the first duel with Nightshroud.

5. I’m pretty sure that the first season will be similar to what we saw in Ennead where everyone thinks Jaden is a boy until the second season and Jaden being revealed as Yugi’s daughter probably won’t be revealed until after the season finale duel with Kaiser but would Crowler then be spending all of season 2 trying to boost Jaden to blue and Jaden just stubbornly refusing to leave?

Now that’s done, here’s the answers to your questions…

Jurai (fem!Judai) will be aware of her powers in Ennead GX because of events mentions in Battle of the Gods, and because of other events that will lead into Ennead GX. Yugi will be aware of them too, and that is why she decided to adopt Jurai when her parents were thinking about the ‘brain surgery’ option. Jurai will also have been bestowed an idea of how dangerous magic could be and the responsibility behind being able to wield it that one must remember. It’s not a toy, and she will know this. Yugi won’t be super strict with her, but guiding instead, to help Jurai learn safely.

Jurai will be able to use her powers to assist and to help her friends, but there’s only so much a Mage can do against a Shadow Item without a focus of their own. However her training will assist her in being able to guide her friends but on the other hand, the stories told about how her mother’s friendships were and how they stood together, will make her both a little more and a little less lenient on certain behaviours of her friends. (Here’s looking at you Chazz/Manjome)

Jurai would not be overly worried about someone stealing a copy of her mother’s Battle City deck because she knows her mother carries a different deck these days, but she wouldn’t be happy about it and honestly I could see her correcting anything the imposter got wrong if she was outted as Yugi’s daughter by this point, since she attends Duel Academia under her birth name both to avoid claims of favouritism and to avoid people swamping her to get to meet her mother, and if not secretly being like ‘this is a really bad copy of mum’.

Yugi and co WILL be informed when Jurai ends up in the infirmary after that duel and Yugi and one of Jurai’s aunts will be coming to the island to teach the students about Shadow Games and how to survive them, as well as help protect the keys and absolutely blast Shepherd for putting such a dangerous task on children.

I’m not going to hide Jurai’s gender, but I am hiding the fact she’s Yugi’s daughter for a while, until the appropriate time to reveal it. Also since Jurai is female and would be in the female dorm, plus the fact that in the Ennead Universe there will be more girls attending because of the Queen of Games, the female dorms will be ranked, so when Jurai gets promoted, she would just be moved floors, rather than to an entirely new building, so she wouldn’t have to leave her friends because they could all meet in the common areas and crash out there if they want.

I finally decided to suck up my embarrassment over letting your stories marinate because I had a bad year and decided to restart everything because you are an awesome writer and I had a thought.

Please ignore the bad misspelling. It’s past midnight and “Help Me” chapter 11 has wrecked my emotional stability (in a good way).

How would Onesan/Yami react if/when Yugi started having a plushie in her mindscape/soulscape that represented her/his memories with the pharaoh?

I have a vague idea but at the same time my brain keeps going to how to make it angst and my brain keeps going to what is that happened during the Dartz incident right after Yugi is removed.

I’m blaming Help Me on this ask. Well mostly Help Me, the sleep deprivation probably hasn’t helped much but the angst in Help Me definitely created this thought.

Help Me is a fascinating fic that I have to be in a very specific headspace to write, so I am glad that it has emotional impact on others too. XD

Oneesan/Meisa/Yami would react with joy when she first discovered it because it would mean that her twin/partner subconsciously considers her important enough to have a whole thing just for memories of her. However, if that was discovered in Yugi’s empty soul room after they were lost to the Orichalcos, that would also drive home just how much the Pharaoh had screwed up and make that heartache so so so much worse.

Help Me is VERY angsty but I do love a lot of it XD XD

Random question unrelated to anything definitely not related to me rereading Ennead: Cherished or the fact that I can’t find it searching through your Tumblr;

But if Katsuya and Yugi get married does Katsuya become Muto Katsuya or does he keep his original name? Or is it one of those scenarios where he keeps his original name for professional work and Muto for his everyday life?

Sorry for the delay in replying, I’m in the middle of a divorce and an international relocation, so I’ve been a little unable to access my computer and answering on my phone is awkward because I like to be able to see your comment to reply to it, so I don’t miss anything, but I have my laptop now and my friend has helped me get a new PC so I’ll be able to reply more often now!

In the Ennead universe, Katsuya will become a Mutou if he marries Yugi, because he would rather carry on the Mutou name then that of his father, because they were the ones who helped him reclaim his life and create a path forward that he could be proud of.

A DNA test. Which could be used to possibly find living relatives of Sakhmet in this modern era.

It sounded so much like something from a fairy tale, that one could find descendants 3 000 years after her own time, but both Sakhmet and Yugi knew that a lot of things that had seemed impossible back in Ancient Egypt, was very much possible in the modern age.

"Even if we do not meet them face to face, for some reason, it can be fun to have a name," Yugi said, noticing that her twin's eyes seemed to shine a little more than usual with a sudden joy.

"Yes...."

Well, the former Pharaoh had a valid reason for being a little absent-minded from knowing that she could have a descendant though her son Akefia somewhere in the world. With the way she had seen her own family come close to dying out, with the deaths of her siblings before they could have children of their own and originally not knowing that her cousin Seth was already present in the palace as one of the new Sacred Guardians, this about her bloodline surviving for 3 000 years was far more welcomed. And with Akhenaden gone since Duelist Kingdom, there was no fear of him using Pegasus as a host body alongside modern technology to track down Sakhmet's descendants and harm, or even kill them to hurt her and Yugi.

"I am really glad that he is not around to hurt anymore again."

Walking over to her closet, Yugi began to choose what to wear. Given the theme of the exhibit and the simple fact that it was still summer, she went for a light blue tunic with golden edges on the sleeves and neckline, and a green pleated skirt that was midi-length on Yugi compared to a taller teenager like Anzu. They had found those in her favorite thrift shop, and Sakhmet had liked how the colours reminded of a blue lotus flower.

"On the other hand, I do not want to look too child-like...."

That made her chose the boots, which once had been a unintended clue to Mai at Duelist Kingdom that Yugi was not the same person all the time. A bit of a odd combination, perhaps, but today she was not going to take part of a duel tournament and definitely NOT going to get herself or her twin into new trouble involving magic or people seeking revenge for the past or something similiar.

In fact, she could almost hear a voice that sounded very much like Seto, say something akin to:

No MORE nonsense about magic or the past! Unless that person really want to regret being the one to start it!

Privately, Yugi could not disagree as she pulled on a belt and put her deck in the hoister. They needed something normal for a while, like worrying about school and other everyday stuff, because focusing solely on the past....

Oh.

That brought up her memories of what had happened during the night. Sensing the switch in mood from the living girl, Sakhmet had a good guess on why.

‘Imoto… I have something you need to see.’

‘Anesan…’

‘Please.’

Yugi froze. Her twin often asked for things, but the word ‘please’ was not one that Sakhmet used often, not even with her.

‘Alright.’

When they come down to the kitchen, Yugi feeling a good bit more self-confident over knowing that Katsuya in fact did not favor Sakhmet over her and that her twin would never steal him from her, Ginka greeted her favorite human and specter by demanding attention.

"Mew! Mew! Mew!"

There was still some pieces of dry food left in a bowl in a corner, suggesting that the cat was not hungry but simply happy to see them again after over 2 weeks away.

"Hello there, girl. Missing us?"

Ginka purred loudly as Yugi picked her up, and then began to lick her face with her tounge.

'Yes, she have missed us,' Sakhmet smiled, grabbing a few things to fix a quick breakfast for Yugi with eggs and some toast. Since they did not know exactly when they would be back from the museum, it was better to ensure that they had something to eat first. Besides, as shown during that hellish first day of Battle City, Yugi's eating habits when she was stressed or in similiar bad mood was not the best in such circumstances.

"Mew! Mew!"

As Ginka jumped down on the floor and then up into Sakhmet's arms, making her appear to float in the air as Yugi started to eat, Sugoroku entered the kitchen, to get some coffee before opening the shop for the day.

"She have been a bit lonely with only me. So you two better expect demands for extra cuddles over the day."

That was understandable, with how Jii-san had needed to focus on the customers so they had a income. Making use of the remaining time before the shop was to open, Sakhmet took a chance to look again on a 'family portrait' of her family back in Egypt, put together by both her own memories and images of them that the Azra had shown them in Tokyo.

"I can see a family resemblance, even if you all look a little different at first apperance," Sugoroku said at seeing the family that Sakhmet had once had.

"I remember Amunet, Nepthys, Atem and Thoth better now when I have my memories back. It is our older brothers, the heirs before Atem, that is a bit of a mystery even if I was told a lot about them while growing up," Sakhmet admitted as she quickly borrowed Yugi's body for some talk with the old man, recalling how her parents had mourned their three older sons even with years passing since the war. It was not just a loss of heirs, but also a reminder of how death had been far more present in her era in different forms compared to now. For example, Yugi did not need to worry about dying from a really bad cold with modern medicinal care, and there was now vaccinations against some illnesses that could claim the life of a young child or teenager.

"My older brothers...I will admit that I am curious about them, Yugi."

The Mutou heiress could understand that feeling. She knew the personality of her grandmother Youko from stories that Sugoroku had told her, but until her temporary death, she had never truly "meet" her grandmother for real despite knowing that it was perfectly valid to miss someone who had died before yourself was born, because of the lost opportunities that such a family relationship entailed.

"Of course you are! They are in our age group, remember?"

Khepri, Maahes, and Anhur had died as teenagers, so saying that they were in the same age group, was very much truth. If the royal family had been a family in the modern age, with Sakhmet and Atem sharing a birth year with Yugi, the age difference would likely make them working adults while their younger siblings was still school students, with Amunet either doing studies for higher education past university or working, while Thoth would be in elementary school, based on what Yugi knew of her past life siblings' ages.

"Teenage boys, the bane of All you can eat-buffets," Sugoroku  chuckled, remembering how much Katsuya could eat and did not doubt that this was the truth for any teenage boys that entered the afterlife, no matter what era they hailed from.

"Jii-san!" Yugi protested, to which he only smiled, finishing his coffee.

"Ask Katsuya if you doubt me, Yugi."

Her phone suddenly called, revealing that it was Mokuba asking for a small favor if Yugi could come over:

"A personal tour around that Duel Globe that you have built over the past months? And some dueling poses for a ad video about it? I will come."

The logic behind the globe was rather simple: Bad outdoor weather was not good for tournaments held outside, and the cold during winter meant that the Duel Dishes may be troublesome to fast around the arm of a thicker winter coat. Having a indoor space for duel tournaments was a wise idea, and also a way to keep duelists out of the way for everyday traffic and the sort. No car drivers would be pleased if a pair of duelists suddenly started to duel, say at a traffic light, and messed up traffic. Far too many complaints about people being late to work and risk for accidents because the duelists did not pay attention to their surroundings, or cared for anything else outside the duel.

Then, seeing what time it was, there was no more time for talk.

While Sakhmet handed some really unpleasant duelists, Ginka placed her ears flat against her head while looking out though a window in the apartment and hissed at a shadow outside the wards that the female Pharaoh had created during the night. Had she been outside, she would have tried to claw at whatever that thing was and even chase it away, because Ginka did not like it. It felt nothing like her Ghost, and that was a reason to be wary.
