How I Study New Material in Medical School
Review new material within 24 hours of learning it (there is a science to spaced repetition and it really does work)
If there is a concept I am stuck on, look up videos on YouTube, Osmosis Med, Physeo, Lecturio, Sketchy wherever it maybe. Do your best to learn it as quickly as you can
Do at least 20 practice questions associated with lectures each day. Even if you get every single one wrong- do it anyways. Make sure to revise the correct answer and WHY it is the correct answer
Have a study group, study buddy, silent study partner, SOMEONE! from your class to motivate you and keep you on track with new material
Do daily flashcards or Anki cards (pre-made decks) they will be your best friend
For Biochemistry and Cell Biology, I like to draw out pathways on a whiteboard and redo them over and over again until it sticks. Keep doing it everyday (even just for 10 minute) up until the exam.
Ask Questions!! Don’t be shy about making mistakes or being wrong. It is better to make mistakes before the exam, than during it. If you don’t know something- find someone who does. The nice thing about online classes is that you can post your question in a group chat, email, or forum- people will respond relatively quickly.

academia things that genuinely make me happy
large textbooks filled with extra papers which hold the answers to the problems you thought were too brilliant to be thrown away, or the simple short summary of a part you were struggling to understand before
having your textbook absolutely ruined by highlighters and sticky notes all over it, those little tips and ideas you picked up from the lesson. anyone who opens that book immediately knows that you’ve studied the crap out of it and know the concept by heart. “this is the most annotated book i’ve ever seen” is literally the highest form of compliment for me.
solving math or chemistry problems to a soundtrack album or ambient sounds, extra points if it’s in afternoon lol
when you’re so focused and keen on getting to the final answer that your hand physically can’t keep up with your eagerness so you end up with the most incoherent solution. but you’ve finally got the answer right!
being self-taught in a subject or a few chapters of the textbook, and still smashing the quizzes and the exams
coming up with a new solution to the problem, or seeing the problem from a new perspective, and finally being able to solve it because of just that.
confidently walking out of the exam room. 0 doubt in your mind that you crushed it!
actually feeling how you’ve grown academically, and how much more knowledgeable you are compared to the beginning of the semester
casually and confidently having conversations with a professor about your studies, exchanging ideas and discussing the existing theories, methods, on-going research and all
all of this is everything i want in life- god

romanticize your life. i cannot stress this enough. use scented shower gel and shampoo, so you look forward to showers. go on walks and see how pretty the sky looks. notice the wildflowers on the roadside as you drive. light a candle when you get home to make your room smell good. notice & appreciate the little things in life. it won't cure your mental illness, but it'll make it easier to exist in this world.

time blocking method
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi all, this is werelivingarts, a new post about time management method: TIME BLOCKING! Time blocking allows you to divide your day into big blocks and helps you to complete similar tasks in one-go without any interruptions!
You can do your time blocking on:
Google Calendar (simple and easy to use)
Plan (drag your to-do list and organize them in blocks)
TickTick Premium (offer pomodoro timer)
Hope you find this helpful! ⭐️

‘eat the frog' method
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi all, it’s werelivingarts. I just stumbled across this method called ‘eat the frog’, which means you get the most difficult or important task out of your way first. I actually have been using this method for a long time, hope this post gives you a new way of managing your time and productivity! 😜 ❤️
“If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.” – Mark Twain
