When I’m lost, #skateboarding has often been a source of relief & clarity, allowing me to better reflect on situations. Been more difficult to #skate at all lately, but when I have it still has the same old magic. The heights to which @pitcrew880 @pitcrew @marcylenharrbryan and the other #pitcrew skaters helped push me...Ramp House skatepark, North Carolina. 1996 or 1997 maybe. This particular day Kenny Hughes was skating the ramp also, doing huge frontside Indy grabs on the same wall. I was trying to match his height for the photographer who started taking shots of me also, but I think Kenny got the higher ones. I was never as good grabbing Indy at that time. I got about chest high. Kenny was head high or above. Would love to return to those glory days. At the time I didn’t even know quite how good they were. Funny how life goes that way. This photo reminds me also of how that day I was rocking leather boot laces in my #skate shoes because I got tired of shredding the laces so fast. #skateboarding #skateordie #90s #throwbackthursday

Truth told...it was largely due to #skateboarding and @pitcrew880 @pitcrew @marcylenharrbryan #pitcrew original team & all our hometown friends that I was inspired to become the #photographer that I am today. At the time (prehistoric era of celluloid) it was way more difficult to get skate photographs done. Video took a lot of the focus and back then & you definitely couldn’t do both at once as only one person. Anyways when I went back to college after being a dropout, confused about what to do for a living or for a major, one focus of mine became photography. I wanted to learn how to do photos right. This early photo is perhaps my ultimate #selfie and a premonition of what people would eventually do once the digital era kicked in proper. This self-Portrait turned selfie before these superfluous selfie days existed. This backside #kickflip is one shot I did of myself in #Hawaii, thanks to assist by Sachiyo Morita and @fujifilm_northamerica bought from @service.photo. Now realize I have to try to handle the LONG historical version of this story for myself in a blog post at a later date. Getting too emotional over here. Anyone want to skate this week? I’m wanting (needing) a return to #skatelife.

Still in a bit of shock to hear the news that @pitcrew880 will be closing up shop at the end of this month. The skateboard family has always been one that has been there for me always and that I hold with the deepest respect. It was a privilege to be a part of the original skate team, and those were years and experience that I will never forget. Thank you @mullendore for asking me to be on the team all those years ago while I was skating the ledges at TJ High school. Thank you Tim and Mal for taking me on and allowing me to be near so many parts of skateboard history. Thank you for finally bringing to fruition the Hill St skatepark right in my old neighborhood, the skatepark we had all petitioned the city to build over a decade years+ before. Thank you @pitcrew & @marcylenharrbryan for your positivity, your service and support of the skateboard lifestyle, and of me.
