Why do I believe this show curated by Droga5 in London is brilliant? This show stands out not just for the metric zero counts of some posts in the new Instagram blind metric rule but also, and especially, for pointing a light on how algorithms costantly fail some contents putting them in the shade while they would instead shine so bright in a human curated gallery show! Not every algorithms curated content is good, and they also create a very competitive and problematic and unhealthy context for sharing contents. Very well played by Droga5 and Kahlua. hashtag#Advertisting doing goo and goind well.

If you follow, or know, Kim Kardashian you know that she is always ready to post something to break the internet, yeah, she is an internert trasher.
Some years ago I made this glitch edit portrait of #KimKardashian sucking on that lollipop, staring at the camera, seducing the audience, bringing out all of here sex appeal. She is very skilled for this type of acts.
Of course, I am not the only one who noticed her skills in sucking on lollipop.
A brand making lollipops noticed that too and so comes the story.
Tumblr media
Kim yesterday posted an #ad about a lollipop that works as appetite suppressant. Yes, you read it well. Those lollipops suppress appetite. Suppressing appetite can lead to eating disorder and she is promoting this product to her millions of young girls who follow her and see her as a role model. Of course, what best way to advertise this product, a lollipop, if not making it look sexy? Seducing the audience and inducing the audience in trying this product which is “literally unreal”? Making a product that suppress appetite and that could probably lead to eating disorder is a crazy idea. I don’t even know how they can actually come up with a product like that, promote it and sell it, and also giving it away for free. Everything is wrong with this product and its ad. it’s shit however you look at it. Kim used the hashtag #suckit.
Girls, eat whatever you like, do not listen to her. This is the shittest advice ever and do not forget she is getting paid to tell you that those lollipos are “literally unreal”. Let her alone suck on those lollipop shit. She sucks! You do not!
In a world where there are millions of people starving everyday it’s a disgrace to see someone so popular using her visibility, notierity and influence in promoting something that suppress appetite and all of its risks.
Profit and growth at any costs are all around us and it’s a mentality and attitude spreading fast and without control.
Our western society is based on everything, everytime, at all costs.
Suppress your appetite or eat junk food like a monster.
i worked in a restaurant in UK. We were serving bad frozen “Italian” food that was served in huge portions, especially pasta, to customers that many time didn’t even have appetite for all for all of that food, or they couldn’t even finish their dish because it was just too much and the food ended up in the bins. Kilos and kilos of food binned everyday. The Italian experience was a money machine making that didn’t care at all of the food waste it was, and probably still is, producing. People wants the Italian experience and they are ready to pay for it. So, fuck it, let’s serve them food that they will probably not eat. Everybody most of the time replied to my question “Did you finish with your food?” with  “I enjoyed it. It was just too much!” So, the problem was the huge portion of food. But also, dear customers, why did you order that much food!?! You know we serve huge portions, why do you order starter, pasta, pizza, then a second dish and then dessert, so much food that won’t even fit in your stomach!?!
I came up with this conclusion. Capitalism makes us want thing we don’t need. As we say in Italy, “Abbiamo gli occhi più grandi della pancia”, we have eyes bigger than our belly, we desire more than we can actually have and need.
Learn to eat properly, and do not let brands seduce you with their experience. Nobody knows better than you what you really need.
Choose right your role models and influencers, some of them are dickheads, even if they look good and sexy and successful. A lot of their success can come at your expenses. They win, you lose.
Fuck Kim Kardashian! Fuck shit ads! Fuck Capitalism! Fuck growth at any costs!

This is worth more than 100.000 banners and whatever other type of ads format are there available. Sponsor a bench in the park, advertise and brand you business but actually do something good for the community. Ads take too much space to be just there for the interests of private business. It's important to give something in return to the community.

Let’s make this clear....it’s not just about Facebook. It’s the whole business model that is problematic.
It's not about hiding from the system, it's about rejecting the system. I don't hide not to be seen, I hide not to be influenced. I don't care they track and record and profile me, I hate they wanna use my data against me, to sell me, persuade me, influence me, control and limit my choices to the highest bidders offers. The web I see is built from and around my data. Yours is the same. My web is different from your web, this can create conflicts and separations. It's not just about regulations, its about changing mentality.

in this story about #facebook #cambridgeanalytica #privacy #bigdata I see that many are pointing to the problems but many look at the finger instead than looking at the direction. it's not about having nothing to hide. it's about not having our data sold and used against us.
don't let them manipulate you, you manipulate them, or at least try too

more i read about this story and more i believe that this is a really serious and problematic situation. i am worried that a lot of people online just accept the situation like it's not reversible and we got used to being profiled, sold and influenced

about logos, symbols, propaganda, culture and appropriation. Probably some of you will see a nazi eagle, most of you will recognize the fashion brand. This is the famous logo of the English brand BOY-London. The bran, inspired by the punk movements of the 70s, appropriates the symbol of the Nazi and used this image as logo. This brand is back in fashion recently, most people are not aware of the cultural appropriation by the punk movement. Many will not even recognize the Nazi eagle. Most of the people will get used to the symbol, embrace it and make it part of their culture and language. Fascists are back on fashion too, Nazi as well, as much as other far right movements. Unconsciously people are doing a massive propaganda to far right political movements symbols as many will wear that logo totally ignoring the punk appropriation of nazi symbols and just associate that logo to a fashion brand inspired by the Nazi as Nazi and fascists symbols will be used during propaganda online and offline. Nazi culture appropriation and re/contextualization made sense in the 70s, nazis were "defeated" even if the sentiments and ideals were still alive and today are back on mainstream political parties agenda. I think this fashion brand is back on fashion at the wrong time because this is the time that people do not questions, just follow and obey. You know what I mean? The same happens with people appropriating fashion brands. Brands only profit for that appropriation, you are not defeating corporation, you are just diversifying their audience reach. The same I am worried it will happen using far right symbols in fashion at this historical time.

So, the other day I asked my followers and friends on Instagram and Twitter if they had ever seen this ad on Instagram. Nobody ever saw that ad. So why me? the ad in question is a very particular health ad. Not about facial spots, nor losing weight, nor about whitening your teeth not make your hair grow back or get rid of hair from your body. An advertisement about BUNIONS. How many people are affected by bunions? Surely not that many, surely not me but a friend of mine. I was talking to this friend the other day and we were just us and, of course, our smart ass phones. My friend is worried about his toe and he was telling me that he will get his foot checked for bunions. First time in my life I talk about bunions, never searched about it online. So, again, why me? Why a smart publisher as Instagram decides to show ad about bunions at random to whoever? I find that really random and difficult to believe. Are people in online advertisement so naive? Show a pic about bunions to whoever and I hope we are lucky enough that someone affected by bunions will click our client ad. Do I must believe that? Am I paranoid? Are we all paranoid?  Well, none of the people reading my stories on Instagram ever saw that ad, and I am talking about an average of 60 people.
I know, Facebook has declared that they are not using their apps to spy on our talks using our smart ass phone mic. I know, about the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, everyone is affected by it apparently since social media and the web.
I don’t want to convince you of anything but maybe, to be a bit scrupulous is not going to harm you. You got nothing to lose, ad publishers and their clients do. They will lose money if the ad is shown to people that do not need their product and service. They can not be wrong. They do not place ads online at random. They must show the ads to the right people and they use all of the resource they have to do so.
Bunions is not a very common condition like being over weight or losing hair etc etc. Statistically I believe that at random that day I could had also won the lottery if I had had played but not, chances and luck showed me a bunions ad on Instagram. Lucky me, oh yeah.
I wish to put the focus on the app where that happened, Instagram. On my phone I use three apps daily. Firefox, Twitter and Instagram. Instagram the most used. Where I see the ad? On Instagram, of course.
This is not the only episode, I wish I recorded all of them but this really hit me in the face and I was like, WTF!!??!! Bunions? Why today? Why bunions at all? Why on Instagram? Why me?
Well, another ad appeared today on my Instagram feed. Yesterday I was talking with my girlfriend about an italian actor, Neri Marcorè. We never talked about him before, never watched one of his film, yesterday we watched few videos about him on Youtube because he was featured in another video. Today on Instagram there was an ad featuring him. Always an ad. Not a post or a video, an ad, ADVERTISEMENT! On Instagram, again.
This is the ad --------------->
Tumblr media
I do not know what’s going on but I am doubtful and suspicious. Justifying this random ads visualization just with the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon is a bit problematic to accept. We are tracked all of the time. From browser navigation, face detection, keyboard use etc etc, I am not trapped inside of a black mirro episode.
Monetizing content online is a war and the armies fighting at war for money have often not mercy of their victims.
I can not confirm my suspect of course and i do not want to convice you about what i am saying but I like to advice you about being alert and vigilant, take care of your privacy and be doubtful about those big tech companies moral ethics all of the time. We have nothing to lose, they do.

Have you ever seen this #ad on #Instagram? Please reply, needed for a research. If you wonder why, well, a friend of mine was talking to me the other day about going to get his foot checked because worried about bunions. We were just him, me and our phones. How much of coincidence would that be? An ad about bunions, never seen one online, never had problems with my feet, never searched for a cure for feet issues. Are #advertisers so naive to show everybody or at random #ads about bunions? No coincidence in times of #surveillance and #data applied to #marketing . That ad is too specific to be shown at random at large online to whoever.
