Title: Please Don’t Leave
Using this Drabble List!
27 - Please stay with me
WARNINGS: Guns, Blood, Violence
The city was beautiful at night. The lights from the buildings surrounded you, taking your breath away. Or, maybe that was the hundred foot drop below you. You were crouched on the edge of a building, Spider-Man next to you as you waited for instructions.
It was a simple mission. Rescue the hostages, download any files they had onto a flash drive, and get out of there. Sure, it was your first mission as an Avenger, but you had trained for this. You could do this. You knew you could, you had complete control of your powers now, yet that didn’t stop your palms from sweating.
“Y/N, you and Peter go up to the top floor, take the flash drive and download any files you find on their computers.” You heard Steve’s voice through your earpiece, cutting off your thoughts, and you glanced over at Peter, who met your gaze. You and Peter had known each other for years now. You had met in middle school, and had been friends ever since. You had been there for him when he had been bitten by that spider, and he had been there for you when you had been kidnapped by some scientists, and trapped in freezing cold temperatures that had somehow given you the powers of ice you had today. The two of you were the best of friends.
“We’re entering the building now. We’ll draw them out from the top story, so you shouldn’t have any problems.” Natasha said through the earpiece, and you brought your gaze to the nearby building, watching as the rest of the team made their way inside. Almost instantly, the sound of gunshots could be heard.
“You ready?” Peter asked, and you brought your gaze back to him and you nodded. “You’ll be fine.” He added with a smile, and you returned it. “Now lets go.” He pulled his mask on, and shot one of his webs at the top of the building. He held out a hand, and you stepped into it, letting him wrap his arm around you, and you wrapped yours around his neck.
Then, the air started rushing around you as Peter jumped off the roof, swinging towards a large window on the building. Your grip toughened around him, and you shut your eyes. No matter how many times you’ve done this, it still never got easier. Though after a moment, your eyes opened, and you let go with one hand. Feeling your arm go ice cold, you shot an ice spike from your palm, watching as it hit the glass window, shattering it just in time before the two of you swung through the now empty window.
Once you felt your feet on the solid ground, you stepped out of Peter’s arm, and quickly turned to look around the room. They hadn’t landed on the top floor, but instead the one below it. Luckily it seemed Natasha was right, it was completely empty. Hopefully the top would be too. You glanced over at Peter. “Remind me next time, to just take the front entrance instead of swinging.” You said with a laugh.
“You’d rather come up like 50 flights of stairs than swing through the window?” He asked, the eyes of his mask raising a bit, and he laughed. “Sure, next time I’ll let you do that. Though I won’t promise that the mission won’t be done by the time you arrive.”
You were about to respond, when footsteps from above you had you both freezing. “Nat,” You hissed quietly though your earpiece, “I thought you said the top floor was clear.”
“I thought we had gotten them all out. We might not have.” You hear her voice come through, mixed with grunting and gunfire.
“It’s fine, we can handle it.” Peter said, before glancing back at you. “You go up the stairs, I’ll go through the window. If we both go up the stairs, we’ll be pinned down with no way out.” He started back towards the window. “That sound good?”
“Oh, so you’ll leave me to be pinned down while you can swoop in and play hero?” You ask with a light laugh, before backing up towards the stairs. “Alright Mr. Hero. I’ll take the stairs.”
You turn around, and carefully start your way up the stairs, keeping your steps light and quiet so those upstairs wouldn’t know you were coming. There was a good chance they already knew, but it was worth a try. As you made your way up, you swallowed, and shook out your hands a bit. You could do this. You just had to keep repeating that to yourself. You could do this. You could do this.
As you reached the spot of the stairs where it turned, you pressed your back against the wall, and slowly glanced around the corner. You went back fully against the wall, raising a hand to the earpiece. “Only five guys.” You said quietly. “There may be more I can’t see, but so far I see only five.”
“Copy that. You ready?” You hear your friends voice through the earpiece, and you take a deep breath, steeling yourself. You could do this. Before you could talk yourself out of it, you quickly turned the corner, shooting another spike of ice from your palm, this time aiming at one of the men. The spike hit right above the man’s knee, the surprise and pain making him fall to one knee. As you entered the room, you heard glass shatter, marking Peter’s entrance. The man who had been talking to the one you had hit pulled out a gun, and aimed it at you. He fired, but before they could hit you a wall of ice came up between the two of you, thick enough that the bullets got lodged in it. The ice disappeared, and you charged at the man. He swung a punch towards your head, and you ducked, punching him hard in the gut, hard enough that he stumbled back a bit. Before he could regain his balance, you made a dagger made from ice, and buried it in his thigh. You kicked him in the stomach, but before you could do anything else, a harsh arm grabbed you from behind, yanking you away from the man, and tossing you to the ground.
You groaned as your head collided with the tile floor, and you looked up at the man who had thrown you, and realized it was the one you had first hit before you had entered the room. In the corner of your eye, you could see Peter dealing with the other three guys, and it looked like the other three were winning. Snapping your attention back to the man as he pulled out his gun, you blasted him with a stream of ice, sending him flying backwards and crashing hard into the wall. You scrambled back to your feet, blasting the other one you had been fighting, knocking him into the wall, the contact hard enough to knock him unconscious.
Then, you turned your attention to the three Peter was attacking. Creating another dagger of ice, you threw it, mentally cheering as the blade of it landed deep in one of the men’s arms. Peter snapped his head up to look towards you. “About time!” He said, leaping over one of the men, and grabbing him midair, pulling him with him, and using the momentum to slam the dude to the ground.
The one ripped the dagger out of his arm, and charged at you with it. As he swung the ice dagger towards you, it disappeared from his hand, and you punched him hard in the side of the head. A sharp yell from behind you had you turning around, and your eyes widened as you saw Peter stumble backwards, his arm bleeding from where the man he was fighting had sliced him with a knife he had. Eyes narrowed, you shot a stream of ice at the ground, having it grow until it was right underneath the man. As he took a step towards Peter, he slipped on the ice, crashing to the ground. Peter didn’t hesitate to web him to the ground. Holding the cut with his hand, he looked up towards you, about to say something, but you never heard it. The only thing you heard was the loud bang of a gun. Your hand came up to hold your stomach, before pulling away, and you looked down at your now blood-covered hand. You looked back up at Peter, your eyes wide. But then another bang echoed through the room, and your knees gave out from under you, even more blood coming from your stomach.
You watched Peter leap over you, and heard him punching the man repeatedly. “P-Peter.” Your voice was weak, and you coughed. You could feel the blood in your mouth, could feel it dripping from your mouth and onto your face.
Your voice seemed to snap Peter out of it, and he quickly knocked the man unconscious before racing to your side. “No. Nononono.” He quickly pulled off his mask. His eyes were wide, frantic. “Guys. Guys. Y/N. She’s been, she’s been shot. Please. Someone get up here please.” He said to the rest of the team, before pressing down on your stomach, trying to stop the bleeding. “Please Y/N, please stay awake. Please, help is coming.”
Despite it all, a ghost of a smile grew on your lips. Of all the time you’ve known him, you had never told Peter how you truly felt. How you loved all the time you had spent together. How you loved all the adventures they had been on. How you loved him. Peter kept rambling, kept begging you to stay with him. But his rambling cut off as you gently lifted up a hand, setting it on his chest. “I’m sorry.” You said softly, your voice cracking. You coughed again, more blood escaping from the wounds in your stomach, but you kept going. “I-I’m sorry I never told you earlier. I’m sorry, I should have told you this before.” Peter tried to get you to be quiet, to save your strength. But you couldn’t. Already, darkness pressed at the edges of your vision. You had to tell him, you had to tell him now before you couldn’t tell him at all. “I love you.” You finally said, your voice wavering. “I love you Peter. So much. I have for so long now.” You groaned as Peter pulled you into his lap, having you sit up a bit more instead of laying completely flat. “I should have told you earlier.” You felt your head droop, leaning against his chest, and your hand dropped from his cheek, but you managed to bring your gaze up to look at him.
Peter wasn’t even trying to fight back any tears. They streamed down his face. “I love you too.” He said, his voice cracking. “Please Y/N, don’t you dare die on me now. We, we can go on a date. A wonderful date. We can go to the arcade, I know you love that. We can go there, but please just stay with me.”
Another light smile grew on your face. “I’d like that.” You said softly. “I’d like that a lot.” You heard rapid footsteps coming up the stairs, and you thought you could hear Natasha’s voice but you couldn’t be sure. Instead, you felt your eyes close, the darkness fully sweeping over you, claiming you.
