A witch puts a spell on a girl, a sleeping spell that promises the girl shall wake through true love’s kiss. Men come and kiss her. She slumbers. Women come and press their lips to hers, but still she sleeps. Many years past, and the girl remains still. One bright morning,  a lost little boy finds her resting spot and clears the dust and grime from her face. He offers her a kiss on her forehead, and her eyes flutter open. She never feels romantic love for a man nor a woman, and she cares for the boy until the day she dies.
A young woman is imprisoned in a castle by a monstrously formed prince. The servants of the castle hope for them to fall in love, and when the spell is broken they assume their prayers have been answered. They are all surprised, but nonetheless pleased, when it is revealed to them that the young woman and prince are the truest of friends, and nothing more.
They say the kingdom is ruled by an evil queen, a woman who is incapable of loving. She is unmarried, she has no consorts, and she wishes for no partner. She is the wretched queen, the heartless queen. She must hate her daughter, for her daughter is beautiful, and women are incapable of liking another woman who’s prettier than themselves. It must be for this reason that the princess was sent away, not for how she was attacked by a man in the woods. They say the kingdom is ruled by an evil queen because she cannot love. The queen loves her daughter, and that is enough for them both.
There lives a prince who is forced to choose a bride at the ball. He meets many beautiful women, but find none which he loves. He spies one in a gorgeous gown and wonder in her eyes, and he dances with her all night long. The kingdom is sure he has found his bride. When the clock strikes midnight he tells her how he will never love a woman, or a man, in the way he is expected to. The beautiful woman smiles and tells him she expects nothing from him. The next morning the prince and the beautiful woman are missing, having run off together to see the world. They leave their shoes behind in their haste.
Many kinds of love exist. It doesn’t all have to be romantic.

I have truly never felt more feral than when I’m gardening. Just squatting down barefoot in the dirt, digging around with my hands like a little gremlin because I forgot where I put the trowel. Mercilessly removing any weeds that dare to be in my sight. Making up a little song about looking for rocks. It’s a wonderful feeling until you go back inside and you’re covered in dirt

Romanticizing your life doesn't fix anything but by god does it help. I'm currently sick and miserable so I've put on my old hollywood-esque dead husband robe and now I'm a consumption-riddled ingenue languishing as the illness slowly saps away my strength until I die tragically in the grand finale

Friends, Since I offered you 10 reasons for modest optimism last week, discontent with the Trump-Musk regime has surged even further. America appears to be waking up. Here’s the latest evidence — 10 more reasons for modest optimism. 1. Trump’s approval ratings continue to plummet. The chief reason Trump was elected was to reduce the high costs of living — especially food, housing, health care, and gas. A new Pew poll shows these costs remain uppermost in Americans’ minds. Sixty-three percent identify inflation as an overriding problem, and 67 percent say the same about the affordability of health care. That same poll shows the public turning on Trump. The percent of those disapproving of Trump’s handling of the economy has risen to 53 percent (versus 45 percent who approve). Disapproval of his actions as president has risen to the same 53 percent versus 45 percent approval, which shows how essential economic performance is to the public’s assessment of presidents these days. The Pew poll also shows 57 percent of the public believes that Trump “has exceeded his presidential authority.” By making the world’s richest person his hatchet man, Trump has made more vivid the role of money in politics. Hence, a record-high 72 percent now say a major problem is “the role of money in politics.” Other polls show similar results. In the Post-Ipsos poll, significantly more Americans strongly disapprove of Trump (39 percent) than strongly approve of him (27 percent). Reuters, Quinnipiac University, CNN, and Gallup polls show Trump’s approval ratings plummeting (ranging from 44 percent to 47 percent). In all of these polls, more Americans now disapprove of Trump than approve of him. 2. DOGE is running amusk. DOGE looks more and more like a giant hoax. This week, reporters found that nearly 40 percent of the contracts DOGE claims to have canceled aren’t expected to save the government any money, according to the administration’s own data. As a result, on Tuesday DOGE deleted all of the five biggest “savings” on its so-called “wall of receipts.” The scale of its errors — and the misunderstandings and poor quality control that appear to underlie them — has raised questions about the effort’s broader work, which has led to mass firings and cutbacks across the federal government. DOGE has also had to reverse its firings. On Tuesday, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Douglas A. Collins celebrated cuts to 875 contracts that he claimed would save nearly $2 billion. But when veterans learned that those contracts covered medical services, recruited doctors, and funded cancer programs as well as burial services for veterans, the outcry was so loud that on Wednesday the VA rescinded the ordered cuts. After hundreds of nuclear weapons workers were abruptly fired, the Trump administration is scrambling to rehire them. After hundreds of scientists at the Food and Drug Administration were fired, they’re being asked to return. On Wednesday, Musk acknowledged that DOGE “accidentally canceled” efforts by the U.S. Agency for International Development to prevent the spread of Ebola. But Musk insisted the initiative was quickly restored. Wrong. Current and former USAID officials say Ebola prevention efforts have been largely halted since Musk and his DOGE allies moved last month to gut the global-assistance agency and freeze its outgoing payments. The teams and contractors that would be deployed to fight an Ebola outbreak have been dismantled, they added. DOGE staff are resigning. On Tuesday, 21 federal civil service tech workers resigned from DOGE, writing in a joint resignation letter that they were quitting rather than help Musk “dismantle critical public services.” The staffers all worked for what was known as the U.S. Digital Service before it was absorbed by DOGE. Their ranks include data scientists, product managers, and engineers. According to the Associated Press, “all previously held senior roles at such tech companies as Google and Amazon and wrote in their resignation letter that they joined the government out of a sense of duty to…

Stagnation
There’s a quiet sort of wistfulness in the early days of March. Winter seems to have abated but spring is yet to awake. It is the grey melancholy of beginnings not begun, that empty in-between time before dawn, the calm after the storm. This is the time where the grey skies stretch into perpetuity and the air is oppressively still.  Nature is not holding her breath. That implies anticipation where there can’t be because we’ve forgotten what we’re waiting for, we’ve forgotten that we’re waiting at all. I think it’s more that Nature is sleeping, caught in the jet lag between seasons. The kind of rest after an exhausting week where you just feel drained and depleted. I realize now that perhaps this is why March was always my least favorite month. It’s not marked by anything, but rather the absence of everything.  Or maybe it’s because I recognize in these vacant days the worst parts of myself.
When the sun returns and drags spring up from a muddy grave I imagine I’ll forget about these placid days of recovery. I must have all the years before after all.

I like to imagine that Victor Frankenstein and his Creature look absolutely nothing alike at the beginning of their narrative, but as the story progresses, they become more and more visually similar. As the blood pumps through the Creature's veins and his stiff muscles loosen up, he begins to look a little more.... alive, for want of a better word, than the twitching corpse Victor first saw him as. Secretly living with the De Laceys, he copies their facial expressions, practicing them again and again until they almost come naturally. Almost. He even has some of his creator's clothes. Meanwhile, as Victor's health deteriorates, his skin becomes sallow and transluscent, revealing the blood vessels underneath. His hair grows long and wild. His lips turn purplish black and shriveled with frostbite in the harsh Arctic. And maybe, in the dimness of Walton's cabin, when the candlelight hits them just right, Victor's dull, watery eyes appear almost yellow.
