The "playing sportsball" card sets the cards on the left and right to the same value it is. Don't knock it - this always makes a three-of-a-kind worth 4 bonus points. And usually it changes those cards' values to 1, but if you can figure out how to make it bigger, the other cards get bigger too...⁠
