An Apatani couple (80 plus year olds) posing for the camera during our village tour in Ziro.
The man with a tobacco pipe (muksudu), smoking in abandon. And the woman beside him bold in her traditional necklaces and rare nose rings... Whether you've heard of this tribe or not, there belies an interesting story behind the large nose rings put in the Apatani women. Although the tradition is non-existent now, it was a strict practice at a time in history when Apatani women were regarded as the most beautiful in all of Arunachal Pradesh. Men from other tribes would steal away these beautiful women. Which compelled the Apatani men to tattoo the faces of their women and make them wear large nose rings as an identity of their tribe.
The Apatanis are a tribal community living by the valley of Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh. They are known for their wet rice cultivation and agriculture system which they still practice with rigour even when they've reached their prime stage in life...

The stone memorial of the Kohima epitaph reads;
"When you go home tell them of us and say for your tomorrow we gave our today"
I was dumbfounded reading those lines... who were these people? why did they give their lives for ours? What did they fight for? Was it victorious dying? Why do wars have to be?
One thing was for sure though. A civilian wouldn't know the first thing about being a soldier...
We came by the Kohima War Cemetery once when on an errand in the capital. Hey! Frankly, didn't think much of this memorial at first, didn't bother much either. But we took our time this day and went through almost every burial epitaphs as we could. There are 1,420 Commonwealth burials of the 2nd World War with 917 Hindu and Sikhs cremated in accordance with their faith at the highest point of the cemetery.
Almost all the soldiers as we read on were too young to have died. They were between the age of 18-24! Who would sacrifice their lives at the prime stage of youthfulness. Could we dare say, if they were alive, maybe greater things would have been achieved? We found ourselves growing weak in the belly reading on. Later, with great respect we carried our heavy hearts back down past the entrance...
And we're sharing what we encountered that day. Their deaths haven't been in vain. And if they had to say something more, it would have been to oppose any sorts of war and destruction...
Peace and love!

On our way to Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh last April, 2018
Our awesome road trip. Not in a luxury car... Nope! Only a tata sumo but it matters so little because in Northeast India we know what connects us.
We found this magnificent view, a flight mode with the clouds at the elevation of about 15-16 thousand feet. (Frankly, we flew :3)
And by that snowed mountain ahead we had a pleasant encounter with the India army in #selapass over lunch, who admiringly proved to be disciplined and more than kind which even set us off better than we began. Taking a better last glance we then took the road again to our destination...

Have you been to Dzuleke, Kohima?
I did Once! I remember dipping my wearied legs in the stream, lying down by the meadows and taking the most pleasant nap ever with the sun gentle over my fickle body. When I woke up I was awake for the first time knowing this time that I did something really good for myself... An experience that's been with me ever since.
Dzuleke is a little art piece of nature. Serene and lovely! If you're ever in these part of the states, do you and your bandits a favour... Capture a memorable moment here. It's blissful!

"Is it not simply pleasing to know that a person cannot step into the same river twice? Because it is forever running and the water that washed your feet once has long run down it's course"

The Cathedral Church of Kohima is the church of bishop of the diocese of Kohima. The church is noted for its architecture which incorporates many elements of traditional Naga houses, including its facade which resembles that of a Naga house. The architecture of the cathedral blends into the hill on which it is situated. The 16 feet high carved wood crucifix is one of Asia’s largest crosses.
