Ahhh. Finally made it to the next shampoo bar wash! My hair is definitely.... different. I'm not really sure how to explain it. It has a lot of body and a very different texture. It's interesting to watch it change. I don't care much for the stringyness but hopefully that will go away. #nopoo #nopoodiary #noshampoo #haircare #inversionmethod #organic #nopoochallenge #nopoomethod #selfie #hair #hairselfie

Day 5. #nopoo . I woke up like this. Literally. 90's t-shirt an all. Maybe not as a Snapchat filter. Today is a bit of a struggle, some parts are frizzy, some parts are oily, and Wisconsin winters aren't helping me with all the crazy static. I got this though. It's wash day and I will be doing a mask as well... maybe... I also started the inversion method last night. #noshampoo #nopoochallenge #nopoomethod #inversionmethod #organic #naturalhair #haircare #longhairdontcare #longhairjourney

Adjustment period going ham on day 4. Hair went from mostly straight and stringy to starting to curl. Come on curls. I've not seen much of you in a while! Close up of day 4 hair of #nopoo. Can't wait to see if my stronger curls will actually come back! Another water wash tonight. #noshampoo #hair #haircare #nopoochallenge #nopoomethod #naturalhair

The First Couple Days
Day One I used the Baking Soda and ACV method.
The baking soda washed felt freaking fantastic actually. My roots felt squeaky clean and there was almost a... slime that I didn’t expect, but in a good way!
However. The next part... not so good. I put an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse on my ends. Absolutely awful. It made my ends very greasy to the point that they didn’t really dry. In addition they were stringy and... just... generally felt awful.
I will not be doing this method again after doing quite a bit of research, I agree with the findings that the PH is too high and will cause damage after long term use. However, I may do a baking soda rinse periodically during the transition phase if worse comes to worse. (For those curious, I used a tablespoon of baking soda in about 1 1/2 cups water. The same ratio for ACV)
The next day my J.R. Liggett’s shampoo bar arrived! I was so excited to try this, especially with the mess that was on my hair from the ACV rinse.
I absolutely LOVED it. My hair was clean, shiny, bouncy, all the things that hair should be. I did not need a conditioner. I only have this slightly rubbish picture.

That look lasted about a day and a half. This is pretty good for me as my hair is usually pretty oily before the 24 hour mark. It actually didn’t look oily at all even after that until I took a boar brush to it prior to my shower. Then... Holy. Hell. I suddenly realized how difficult this is going to be.
This was the result after brushing with the boar brush and before my shower. Woof.

So after this, I just did a water rinse and this is me currently! My hair is in the process of air drying as I’m typing this out and I’m about to go to bed so excuse the look.  My last wash (with the shampoo bar mentioned above) was Saturday around 4. I aim not to wash with anything but water until Tuesday night. This will be the longest stretch EVER for me. But anyway, yes, after the water rinse it does not currently look or feel oily. Thank God

Most Recent Photo I’m pretty happy with my hair right now but my ends have gotten horribly dry as the winter has progressed. This is after a shampoo, Chi product, and styling.

Why No Poo
Honestly, I just find it super interesting and want my hair to grow longer, strong, and healthier.
I’m not overly paranoid of chemicals, a vegan, organically inclined, etc. I do however appreciate a more natural approach and cutting down on harmful chemicals certainly doesn’t hurt the cause.
What I’m Currently Using: J.R. Liggett’s Shampoo Bar. Cold Pressed Coconut Oil, Boar Bristle Brush, Wooden Brush, Water rinse between washings and I expect I’ll cave and use dry shampoo now and again
Hair Type: Medium thickness, Not currently color treated, Past shoulders
