But suddenly the Mirror went altogether dark, as dark as if a hole had been opened in the world of sight ... In the abyss there appeared a single Eye that slowly grew, until it filled nearly all the Mirror. So terrible was it that Frodo stood rooted, unable to cry out or to withdraw his gaze. The Eye was rimmed with fire, but was itself glazed, yellow as a cat's, watchful and intent, and the black slit of its pupil opened on a pit, a window into nothing.

There exists an agent, which is natural and divine, material and spiritual, a universal plastic mediator, a common receptacle of the vibrations of motion and the images of forms, a fluid and a force, which may be called in some way the Imagination of Nature…the existence of this force is the great Arcanum of practical Magic. — Éliphas Lévi

I never personally spoke with @apoloadonisandnarcissus but I enjoyed reading her metas, they were always thoughtful and consistent with the lore. I've been out of the loop the last few months focusing on a personal project but a few days ago I got this sudden thought in my mind that I should check on her blog since I had a feeling something was up. And sure enough, the intuition of my Third Eye was right - her blog was gone.
The other day, I was having a conversation with my partner about the power of the Third Eye and how it can help us be aware of things that we can't acknowledge with our objective eyesight. My partner is legally blind, so we enjoy conversations about eye symbolism from time to time. But specifically with the Third Eye, it has a lot to do with our lizard brain, the amygdala, which is sometimes referred to as our third brain. Our brain has three parts, did you know that? Some esotericists have interpreted our amygdala as evidence that we are descended from reptiles, and some go as far as to cite some of Carl Jung's work in Liber Novus and ETH regarding the metaphysical relationship we have to serpents and their role as bearers of wisdom. Little people know this, but in the days of ancient Egypt when the Eyes of Ra and Horus were worshipped, they even had brain surgeons that demonstrated that when you slice a human brain down the center and carefully separate the two halves, the image of both eyes were visible.
The past half year I've been involved in this fandom, I've had many times when I've received a kind of telepathy from people who have decided to hate on me, block me, and spread malice towards me behind my back, thinking it would go unnoticed by my Eye. But it never did - I've always tracked down those who thought they could escape my gaze and avoid being added to my block list. Well, because of this amazing aspect of the Third Eye that I've spent years cultivating through intense meditation and nurturing a connection with serpents as knowledge-bringers and not evil entities, I'm able to SEE YOU whether you like it or not.
@mostchalantcinderella-gladiator thank you for tagging me

I've had a lot of fun with this and meeting new people. Some leave, but most stay. I haven't been active the last few months due to a personal project that involves exploring cultural and religious stories that pertain to the Eye of God. It's a core topic I discuss in a book I've been working on for the last few years, and I'm working on getting two parts of it published this year. Chat me up if you're interested about it, there is so much real-world lore connecting Mairon-Sauron to religious aspects of the Eye and other deities associated with eye symbolism.
I’m new to Tumblr but I’ve been a lurker for a while, and @apoloadonisandnarcissus metas have always been my faves and inspired me to write some of my stories. Her dedication to put together such extensive and thoughtful posts was amazing. She gave so much to the Saurondriel fandom. I’m gutted to see her go.
I reached out to Apolo days ago because I want to write a fanfic about tentgate theory Sauron POV (I have two WIP so it hasn’t happened yet, but it will), She explained the theory to me, and how it could work. She was very nice and helpful. We both joined the fandom after s2, but I went straight to ao3 to write about my new OTP and interacted there, and only browsed the fandom on social media to shamelessly self-promote my fanfics lol
From our chat I got the idea Apolo might delete sooner or later, I didn’t think it would be this soon. She told me she often thought about leaving the fandom for good, she didn’t want to be a part of it anymore, and there was no joy in it. It sucks. She wished me good luck.
I don’t know if she’ll read this, but Apolo: I’ll write that fanfic, and I’ll dedicate it to you and your contributions to the Saurondriel fandom!

In this Age, as is elsewhere told, Sauron arose again in Middle-earth, and grew, and turned back to the evil in which he was nurtured by Morgoth, becoming mighty in his service. Already in the days of Tar-Minastir, the eleventh King of Númenor, he had fortified the land of Mordor and had built there the Tower of Barad-dûr, and thereafter he strove ever for the dominion of Middle-earth, to become a king over all kings and as a god unto Men.

Saruman had slowly shaped it [Isengard] to his shifting purposes, and made it better, as he thought, being deceived – for all those arts and subtle devices, for which he forsook his former wisdom, and which fondly he imagined were his own, came but from Mordor; so that what he made was naught, only a little copy, a child’s model or a slave’s flattery, of that vast fortress, armoury, prison, furnace of great power, Barad-dûr, the Dark Tower, which suffered no rival, and laughed at flattery, biding its time, secure in its pride and its immeasurable strength. — JRR Tolkien, THE TWO TOWERS

There's been some speculation about this particular shot at the ending of season two of The Rings of Power. This gif I created features an overlap of Halbrand's eye with Mount Doom inside his iris at the end of the first season. Here in this shot with Galadriel lying on the ground after falling off the cliff, we are shown an effect of a circle with distorted edges slowly zooming in on her, as though this is the Eye of Sauron gazing on her.
I also noticed other things. When Halbrand's eye is overlaid on this image exactly as I created it, the circle of his iris appears to sync into what seems to be a natural circle surrounding Galadriel, created by the tree shadows, their trunks, the foliage, and there is even the simulacra of a volcano beneath Galadriel - none other than Mount Doom as seen in Halbrand's eye. Its angled slopes are visible beneath Galadriel's feet, as though it leads up to the summit where she is cradled within Halbrand's pupil, with her head nestled in a halo-like green light of leaves and earth. It is as though she is represented as the apple of Sauron's eye.
Whether this is purely coincidental or was intentional on the show creators' part, cannot be said for sure. However, one thing I found curious about this is how both scenes were from the final episode of both seasons, right up to their end. For this reason, I am convinced that this was not a coincidence, and it is possible that they waited until the right time of the day to film this shot when the shadows cast these natural positions, and that they meticulously picked the right location in the woods, as well as propped up leaves and other natural features to create this simulacra.
There is a 4K video clip of this gifset I have created, you can view it here.
