race side note: like frankly one of the reasons i love Rings of Power so much is it feels like the first part of the lotr IP that is acting normal about race
it's been So refreshing, and also realistic. Like yeah this culture based on the byzantine empire is gonna have mediteranean looking folk, and brown people. Yeah the hobbits who come from all over and travelled far to reach the shire are gonna look lots of different ways.

Not to hijack this Silm fandom post with ROP but the first time they had sex Durin fully believed he just killed Elrond and is very distraught over it.

Listen, listen, there are many weird and puritanical things about the way Tolkien writes about elf sexuality. But this is just absolutely hilarious and gives the opportunity for sooo much funny shit.
I really wished I knew who originally made the post, but I just had the screenshot on my phone to snicker with my sister about.

Leaked scene from Rings of Power s3
Glorfindel: The Dwarves have need of my help, and so I will mend the rivalry between Eldar and children of the stone, by slaying the Balrog lying within the depths of Khazad-Dûm. Elrond: Last time you literally died Glorfindel: Well nobody's perfect

I wonder what the people of Númenor, what Eärien was told about what happened surrounding Valandils death. Because I doubt that Kemen or Pharazôn told them or her the truth, at least not 100% of the truth!

El mundo era tan reciente, que muchas cosas carecían de nombre, y para mencionarlas había que señalarlas con el dedo.
---Cien Años de Soledad by Gabriel Garcia Marquz
only saw the @jrrt-native-languages-fest yesterday and was too late, because I think a year is too long to wait imma do these anyways
english translation(based on the official english translation for the book):The world was so recent that many things lacked names, and in order to indicate them it was necessary to point.

i love that rings of power had celebrimbor call sauron "shadow of morgoth", tell him that the one ring will be his destruction and that he will be a prisoner of the rings forever before giving him the title of "lord of the rings" and that every single one of those moments, despite what was occurring in those scenes, was presented as a victory for celebrimbor and a defeat for sauron.

Sorry folk! I need to vent for a bit!
I will never understand the double standards in approaching characters. And I'm not talking about the whole 'I hate this character for no particular reason, and I wish them dead'. This I can get behind. This I fucking understand.
It's everything else that eludes me. And it's not even about favs. It's about the reasons behind the hate some characters get, sometimes made out of nowhere (Neal, I will never forget nor forgive).
Take trop.
I have read thousands and thousands of words on how Sauron is a complex character, he was a victim, he is doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, he wants to be loved, he is like this because Galadriel would not help him redeem himself, etc...
I love Sauron, but I don't agree with any of these takes. And it's fair. They don't bother me (besides the last one, that one enrages me). And then I read posts about Kemen. He is irredeemable, he is the worst, I want him dead... And again, fair enough. But we're still talking about a young man who grew up without a mother and with an abusive father. "He killed Valandil" and Sauron killed Celebrimbor and will kill Gil-galad and Elendil and still you write poems over his sorry ass. Why?
And what about Eärien?
For months, I had to read the ramblings of deranged persons who claimed the show to be misogynistic because the writers were not bold enough to let Galadriel fuck the villain. Hell, some fans were screaming against Elrond because he was mean to Gal for two eps. Two eps, after she fucked up big time.
But you don't see anything wrong with Eärien's storyline (it's on purpose, imo)? There is a young woman surrounded by men who ignore her or manipulate her. Men who demand her obedience and get mad when she dares to ask 'why?' Where is your righteous hate? Where is the 'we should talk about how misogynistic the show is when it comes to Eärien' rant?
Suddenly, she is the bad guy?
