Hey. I was invited to speak at my local church this morning. Curious about what I might choose to talk about? Well, here is where the message and my notes were posted: http://www.edgewaterchurch.org/2025/01/26/january-26th-2025/

Pour a tall glass of water and drink with me to celebrate my new one mile PR set just this morning. I decided to see if I could run a mile in below seven minutes time, and it finally happened.

Wow, this helps me to think about and articulate some of the concerns I have had with a certain type of motivation for pet ownership. It isn’t fair to the animals, and isn’t much fun for the household or the neighbors either. Most people have their hands full taking care of their small humans, or even trying to meet their own needs without adding an innocent creature to the mix of responsibilities to fulfill poorly.
I think it's so funny how we bred JOBS into dogs. I have two shih tzus and they were bred to be lap dogs. All they care about is looking cute and cuddling with people. Meanwhile my grandma has a border collie and that dog needs to feel so useful all the time, he acts like he will pass away if he doesn't have a job to do constantly

This is a good reminder of how words matter and subtle changes in our approach can make a big difference.
not to oversimplify an extremely complex discipline but if i had to pick one tip to give people on how to have more productive interactions with children, especially in an instructive sense, its that teaching a kid well is a lot more like improv than it is like error correction and you should always work on minimizing the amount of ‘no, wrong’ and maximizing the amount of ‘yes, and?’ for example: we have a species of fish at the aquarium that looks a lot like a tiny pufferfish. children are constantly either asking us if that’s what they are, or confidently telling us that’s what they are. if you rush to correct them, you risk completely severing their interest in the situation, because 1. kids don’t like to engage with adults who make them feel bad and 2. they were excited because pufferfish are interesting, and you have not given them any reason to be invested in non-pufferfish. Instead, if you say something like “It looks a LOT like a tiny pufferfish, you’re right. But these guys are even funnier. Wanna know what they’re called?” you have primed them perfectly for the delightful truth of the Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker

So I just added all people from my address book and Facebook friends list. I have no idea who some of you guys are without real names. This will take some detective work.

Baby Bird:
I thought about how ungrateful some are who have never moved out from their parent's home. I am much more grateful for what my parents provided for me now that I have several years of bills paid and family raising done at my own house. I plan to be preparing my kids to be excited to move out, not because I will be a jerk, but because freedom and independence is desirable more than unchallenging constant familiarity.

I'd agree that Jesus was never vicious, but I can't say that this video will inspire the masses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBxfGdRZvaI
