“don’t be such a baby,” elliot sighed, rolling her eyes at him before she lifted the can and took a sip. her face wrinkled in disgust and she immediately set the can down again. “that’s not strawberry. or maybe it is, but it certainly doesn’t taste like it.” it just tasted like pink. “i mean, you could be enjoying, you know, the people.” it was a bit rich coming from her, given how prone she was to disliking people, but elliot definitely wasn’t above hypocrisy. “how kind of you,” she snickered. “i didn’t want to, but i got signed up for it and i would’ve felt like a real dick if i didn’t show.”

“i’m not a baby. try it first and then you’ll know.” because he could be certain it was disgusting. even if he had a sweet tooth every now and then. and loved pink lemonade. this wasn’t it. for sure. it couldn’t be. he almost felt betrayed. “i told you it would be awful. who’s the baby now?” he scoffed teasingly, but a little smirk formed on his lips. he didn’t want to be a total grump today. he was feeling quite light even. “i mean, not many people come to talk to me. or even know me, so the people can’t really be it, if you want an objective answer. the food is alright. except for the drink. and dancing?” well, he was dying to dance. “it looks intense.” he pretended not to be looking at the floor out the corner of his eye every second. “oh– i feel like most people did that for others. it can’t be too bad, can it?”

“It’s much prettier than regular lemonade! I think every food could benefit from a little color.” If she had been in the United States for the disaster that was colored ketchup, she’d most definitely take back that statement. “Oh, how hard can it be to figure out? Aren’t we some of the brightest students in country?” Yes, in niche areas… And smart didn’t mean that they could figure out how to not be idiots in operating a machine. “Hmm… Childhood? Happiness?”

“it really is.” he laughed. although he had nothing against the weird color of lemonade, as long as he made it on a glass that wasn’t clear. “i mean, feel free, but i’m pretty sure i’d lose an arm or something.” he laughed. he was good on the physical side, maybe some weapons too, but machines? yeah, he could barely deal with a laptop. “childhood? what does that taste like?”

       elisa hummed and raised her open palm towards him, pointing out some parts that were pinkish. “i’d say it is. of course, if you ask more particular people then ‘pink’ could be a lot of shades and you might even find those in a variety of places.” she replies before putting her hand down.

“the point’s still the same, though. i wouldn’t say flesh is edible.” and that was a whole other debate, but he hoped everyone in gallagher had their mind set in the right place to agree on the same thing. “nothing pink should be made into a soda.”

“ AMBIGUOUS. ” she laughs as she reads it with a small crease of her brow, rotating the can to see what other information was on it. “ there’s a few flavours that are often pink, though — like grapefruit, raspberry or even peach, maybe ? ” maybe she’s just thinking of princess peach. “ want me to trial it first ? ”

“maybe... it doesn’t look like grapefruit to me, though. it doesn’t smell like grapefruit either.” he had inspected it before. “if you’re feeling brave enough tonight...” he teased.

Austin could understand that line of logic, but he was nothing if not a sucker for learning. “Think you might be right. Only one way to find out though.” With that, he opened it up and took a quick swig. Moments later, he nodded in confirmation as he remarked, “Definitely bubblegum. So, if colors had a taste, we now know what pink tastes like.”

he looked at him, rather anxiously holding on to the bottle he had grabbed in the first place. for some reason it mattered too much. “bubblegum? a bubblegum soda?” he made a face. “is it as bad as it sounds?”

‘   coloured flavours don’t exist.   ’ he says surely, although already picking up one of the sodas to inspect. it’s a baby bottle, like chubby sodas, and the labels been peeled off, presumably because it didn’t fit the aesthetic. ‘   i’m going to try it.   ’ he decides, vocalizes this decision too. 

“tell that to the brand.” he pointed out, rather annoyed about it too, because nothing in the real world that was edible was pink either way. it made him sus. “by all means, let me know, because it seems it’s all they have left.”

         “pink is a flavor? i think that’s just sugar. like..pure sugar, probably.” which he wasn’t opposed to, even if he thinks it’s a little illusion-inducing. “do ya like it?”

“according to this thing, but i don’t think i find it too reliable.” he laughs softly. “i haven’t tasted it. do you want to do it first?”

Faith couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the childish response, head tilting back a bit as she looked at him with a light smile. So annoying, she mouthed once more before laughing. “You know what, that fully depends on how much attention you’ll still give me opposed to the person you’re railing,” she pointed out matter-of-factly. “I never asked you if you need it. That speaks for itself.”

“come on! it’s not like you need my attention. what are you now? tinkerbell?” he scoffed. but of course, faith would always have his attention and a soft spot in his mind and heart as well. there weren’t many people who really knew him the way faith did. and he liked to keep it that way. “okay, thanks for the concern then. are you going to find me someone to sleep with now? since you’re that interested.”

“i’ll try it if you try it,” elliot offered, grabbing a can and holding it up to cheers. “oh, it probably is. but it could also just be, like, strawberry flavor or something.” she raised an eyebrow at ezra’s response. “it’s alright ‘cuz you like the decorations? huh.” it did look nice, but if that was the only thing he was enjoying, she wouldn’t say things were going that well. “did you do the matchmaking thingy?”

he thought about it for a second, then looked at the drink and sighed. “fine you got yourself a deal,” he responded, taking it to his lips but didn’t dare to try it just yet. he was such a picky eater, it was probably ridiculous at his age. “i mean, yeah. what else is there to look at? the food is also nice.” and the people were dressed up nicely to be considered casual, but he figured it would be weird to mention that or how good she looked, considered they were almost strangers. “uh– no.” he shook his head. “i decided to spare someone the pain.” he laughed. “did you?”

“ IS THAT WHAT IT SAYS, PINK ? ” she wonders with a tilt of her head, trying to peek at the front. “ i bet it’s really nice, anyway … pink is always good. ” though blue flavour is nice, too. 

“read it yourself.” he offered the can, that literally said new pink flavor, which he assumed had to do with valentine’s day, more than it being an actual flavor. “i don’t know. there aren’t many things in the world that are pink. and edible.”

          ‘  of  course  i  do  .  ’    she’ll  never  forget  mary  coming  into  their  room  covered  in  dried  blood  ,   after  a  CODE BLACK LOCKDOWN  .   at  least  there  hasn’t  been  one  of  those  this  year  ,   she  supposes  ,   before  shaking  her  head  .    ‘  i  remember  and  i’m  not  -  i’m  not  even  directly  involved  with  any  of  the  deceased  .  ’  

“no. me neither, but i just– i don’t know. i guess some people have different coping mechanisms. like... partying.” he couldn’t blame them. it wasn’t like the world would stop for them because someone had died, but he would have thought there would be some sort of memorial or something at least.

“You’re annoying,” she remarked then in order to defend herself, a smile still playing on her features. As nice as it was to have someone as close to you as Ezra was to Faith, there was something a bit uncomfortable about the way he knew her. Like no matter what she did to cover herself, she was naked. At least that was the case for both of them. “Fair enough,” she mused then, bumping her shoulder against his playfully. It was a shame if she looked at it objectively. Ezra was a good guy, one of the best one’s she had ever gotten to know. If anything, she should be happy he wasn’t neglecting her to go on dates. “I promise I’m not going to get jealous.”

he stuck his tongue at her for a second, just to finish the tease complete, but there was no point in saying he wasn’t annoying, when that was his purpose in that moment. he nudged her back when she bumped his shoulder and rolled his eyes. “oh, jealous? was that a thought that crossed your mind?” he laughed, then let out a sigh. “okay, fine. i haven’t slept with anyone in a while, but that doesn’t mean i need it.”

        “probably a valentine’s thing. actually, it is most likely a valentine’s thing. i think it looks kinda pretty, if not a little strange because no natural drink is pink.”

“i don’t think anything in the natural world is pink.” now he was thinking about it too much. “except maybe pigs, but pigs can be... not pink too. they’re more flesh tone– is flesh a kind of pink?”

“Sometimes they’re pink! But you’re right,” Eden peered over at the soda, taking one of the cups and swishing it around to smell it. “It smells extra sweet. Maybe it’s just pink. Like pink lemonade, I don’t really think that tastes different than regular lemonade.” Maybe she was missing something. “You know, a cotton candy machine would have been fun.” Sipping the soda, she nodded, “Just pink.”

“And somehow, pink lemonade is my favorite.” He grins, shaking his head because of how much of a contradiction it was not trusting this pink drink, but drinking pink lemonade. “You’re right. I think it needs somebody to operate it. It’s not like a chocolate fountain,” he reasoned. “And what does pink taste like?!” he laughs.
