PAST IMPERFECT // FUTURE PRESENT, an Exhibition curated by VIAD in collaboration with FADA Gallery. The exhibition features the work of visual practitioners engaging with complexities of, and rethinking new possibilities for, contemporary archival practices using lens-based and newmedia technologies. In reflecting on the fragments, traces and omissions within archives of the past and present, these practitioners are reimagining and reconstructing new narratives from within their contemporary contexts.

SHIFT [IN] COLLECTIVE: A FADA Visual Arts B Tech Exhibition Exhibition at the FADA Gallery, Johannesburg. 2014. Artist: Siani-Michelle Hall Johannesburg is a city that is losing its ‘self’ because of its multifaceted identity. The original identity of Johannesburg has been ‘camouflaged’ due to the fact that there are so many different cultures existing in one space. SHIFT [IN] COLLECTIVE: A FADA Visual Arts B Tech Exhibition Exhibition at the FADA Gallery, Johannesburg. 2014. Artist: Michael  Petersen Through this body of work I seek to explore my own identity as a coloured male in contemporary Johannesburg. Through the notion of claiming space, I seek to represent the coloured identity as an undefinable, intermediary culture rich in contradiction. SHIFT [IN] COLLECTIVE: A FADA Visual Arts B Tech Exhibition Exhibition at the FADA Gallery, Johannesburg. 2014. Artist: Chelsea  Rowley http://chelsearowley.tumblr.com/ Ambiguitãs This body of work deals primarily with the creation of ambiguous imagery. Through the use of a painterly and mainly two-dimensional medium, I have investigated the indeterminate and tentative nature of the ambiguous image. DYNAMIC: a B Tech Collective Exhibition at the FADA Gallery, Johannesburg. 2014. Artist: Kylie Serebro My work is an archive, a collection of all my important, sentimental objects and items of clothing that stand in for my memories and experiences. In creating an archive I am trying to bring those memories and experiences closer to myself, trying to keep a hold of them. Follow FADA Gallery on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/FADAgallery

DYNAMIC: a B Tech Collective Exhibition at the FADA Gallery, Johannesburg. 2014. Artist: Chantel Marais The abject is considered that which disturbs identity, system and order.  It does not respect borders, positions or rules. In modern society the female figure is thought of as the epitome of abjection; it is considered uncontained and without borders due to the bodily fluids discharged from it during puberty and childbirth. DYNAMIC: a B Tech Collective Exhibition at the FADA Gallery, Johannesburg. 2014. Artist: Colleen Winter   My work examines the different ways that the Black Madonna deals with us, and can also be viewed as a self-portrait as it reflects part of my personal journey through menopause, or ‘change of life’. Sourcey Paintings: Jenny Pomeroy Exhibits at FADA Gallery, Johannesburg.
Jenny Pomeroy is an expressive portrait painter who employs photographic source material as the starting point in her painting process. She explores the translations and manifestations of trace and index of mark on the painting’s surface and the transcendence of the painting from its original photographic source image in her body of portrait paintings.
