Okay, so here is my very rambly review of F1 The Movie. Contains some spoilers.

Good things first! The racing scenes were very, very well done and engaging. The soundtrack was pretty good. The cameos from the team principals (especially Guenther Steiner) were also very fun.

Now, onto the many, many wrong things with this movie. If this movie was just two hours of racing, aka an actual f1 race, I would've enjoyed it. But obviously, it's not. Why, out of all of the interesting plot lines they could've chosen, did they go with a guy in his 50s returning to F1 in a backmarker team. Actually, THEE back marker team. You're telling me they go from qualifying last consistently to winning a race?

Sonny raced in F1 in the 90s. The type of f1 car he would be used to driving is completely different to the modern day, and you want to tell me he just understood it all immediately? Aside from like 1 or 2 minor crashes in his first practice and race? Also he was forced to stop racing in the 90s because of a SERIOUS SPINAL INJURY he sustained in a crash. As someone who has had a serious spinal injury and has had surgery to fix the worst of it, I still feel the effects of it every day despite it being years ago. There are still things I can't do normally and will probably never be able to do again. And you want to tell me he is able to get behind the wheel of an F1 car and be totally fine?

Now onto the pointless fucking romance that he has with his Technical Director. His TECHNICAL DIRECTOR. The first ever female tech director in f1 who SLEEPS WITH ONE OF HER DRIVERS. It was so pointless and genuinely added absolutely nothing to the movie. It completely undermines her character. Also idk what sex scene you guys were talking about because I didn't see that? There was just a cut to them making out, cut away, and then cut back to them in bed afterwards.

Also, why is it the female mechanic who is constantly messing up in the first half of the movie. Could have chosen anyone else, but no.

The movie was also way too long, and I fully agree with the drivers' reviews that it was very Hollywood centric. Honestly, I don't think they needed to do that. I think it would've been a way more interesting movie to actually make the plot realistic, but no.

The 'villain' being the investor in the end was also just sort of thrown in there and felt very last minute/not well thought out. This movie didn't need a 'villain'.

A lot of the 'heartfelt' moments were also incredibly forced and just were not moving at all.

Conclusion is, don't watch this movie. Total waste of time. Just go and watch a race.

A few things I'm nitpicking about Sonny's character as well is his name because it's stupid. The fact he's American because sorry they just don't tend to do well in F1 (RIP Logan Sargeant), and his accent bugged me the whole movie. And the fact that he's superstitious. A lot of the current drivers on the grid when asked say it's not healthy to be superstitious when you're a driver, so they don't really have any 'rituals' or 'lucky socks' because they don't work and it just messes with your head.

Also, the whole plan c being chaos was eye roll inducing every single time someone said it, and if I ever hear someone say that in real life, I'm punching you. If any driver pulled the moves that Sonny was, they would end up with so many penalty points. Not to mention with how many times they did the whole 'plan chaos' strategy other teams would have surely caught on because of how glaringly obvious it was and either complained to the FIA or stewards or they would've tweaked their strategies to deal with them.
