When Someone Asks Me If They Can Read The Book I'm Writing

Me: *Randomly mentions something like:* "I'm researching _____ for my book."

Random Person: "Oh, you're writing a book?! Can I read it?"

Me: *Nervous laughter* Well...uh-"

Inside My Head: *How do I explain that it is horrible? Also, they might never look at me the same way after reading it...*

Random Person: *Just standing there...waiting for an answer.*
