On Anger, 2018. Inspired by a workshop that I attended at my final Prescott College graduate colloquium in April. This workshop discussed the power dynamics and oppressive nature of silencing female anger.

They play with guns, 2016.
My three year old niece is learning how to write her name, learning her identity. She is a budding artist, and I want to show her the beautiful things in the world that have made me happy to be here. I fear the harder conversations.
I feel the great weight of responsibility to someday teach my niece about oppression, bias-fueled police violence, and the racism so sickeningly present in her own community.
Women in our family will tell her about Femaleness, and its own systems of oppression. My family will teach her how to rise above it, be strong, be an ally, a fighter.
Right now we show her how to love and to accept. I hope that she will find comfort in art, the way I do. I hope she finds the same stability and clarity in creating art amid the world’s violence.
