Apologies for the delay in replying, we have had technical issues.

We do encourage to use Discord, as all communication and organization will be done through the server, so we have everything in one place, but if there is any issue we can discuss this further.

Cool idea! I'm wondering if you have in mind how you'll select works for the zine, what it will cost to obtain a copy (print or digital), whether contributors will receive a free copy, if you'll have any rules about the types of works you'll accept?

Apologies for the delay in responding, we were having some technical issues :)

We have a section of FAQs that replies to questions in regard to the zine. This is, especially for legal purposes and to cover everyone's shoulders, a completely free zine, which will be released as a free .pdf.

For the specifics and requirements, they will be fully explained after the sign-ups are closed.

As a general term a zine is:

A zine is a small, self-published magazine that is often created by an individual or a small group, typically focusing on niche topics or personal interests. They are usually produced inexpensively and distributed informally, often through mail or at events.

Originally they were in paper, but with technology advancing we can do this over the internet - in this case it will be a .pdf booklet hosting art and fanfics focused on the Feanorians.

Feanorian Zine 2025 - Bugs and issues

We have noticed a couple of minor technical issues and we would like to clarify a little bit what is happening.

The Discord invite link: we are aware that the link was not working properly. We have amended it on the form, which can be found at this link [HERE] and it should now be working. We encourage everyone to join the server, as it allows both you and us better communication around deadlines and scheduling. Feanorian Zine - F.A.Q.

Here we are listing the most common questions.

Who are we?

We are @joetamy and @starsofarda, the mods and organizers of this project. We will endeavour to do our utmost best to ensure the ine runs smoothly.

Is the zine free?

Yes, it will be published in .pdf format as a free zine. We had some comments about paid options, however this is not the case for this zine. Both of us wish to keep the zine as a free fan project. Should there be any demand, we will discuss it, but as things are the zine is free for everyone.

Do I need to join the Discord Server?

We encourage it for better organization, viewing of announcements and deadlines. It is also the best way you can communicate with everyone and ask questions, but we are not putting any pressure as long as the communication line is not interrupted.

What does "link to your latest work" mean, on the sign up form?

It is a link to your blog/ao3/wherever you post your works, so we can have a rough idea of what you are bringing in. If you have no works posted, you can upload a piece to Google Docs as a png/jpeg and send its link instead.

On the form, when you say "Up to three characters," does that include the "multiple characters" option or is that separate from the characters listed above?

Up to three does include either Fëanor or Nerdanel as seperate, or as one. Meaning, if you wish to create for them, you can choose to do so for one or both. Otherwise the options are limited to the ones above yes. Each work will be focusing on the Fëanorian family, although other characters are of course allowed to appear.

What does the word collaboration mean in this context - is it one particular work or art, or is it art that pairs with a fic, or something else entirely?

For fics, contributors may collaborate with an artist to make something for their work or write on their own. Unfortunately it may prove difficult to 'collaborate' in other ways, but suggestions are allowed to be requested on our discord server, then we the mods will review it and return with an answer!

Artists may choose to collaborate in such a way that one does lineart + shading, and the other layout + colors. This can mix and for example be a split piece where two artists make one half of a complete work.

A lot of zines I've seen only have digital art in them, do you have a plan on what mediums you will allow, or will you accept everything?

We will accept both digital and traditional art as long as it fits the requirements.

What are the requirements?

We will post the specifics on this in the discord server once the sign-ups are closed.

Does art/fic we make need to be canon or at least canon complaint, or could i like draw Maedhros working at a McDonald's?

The Zine will be divided in two parts, the first one focused on individual characters and the second as a free space for both artists and writers.

For the first part of the Zine, we request that you stay in canon/canon compliant territory.

For the second part of the zine, you can post anything as long as it is within the requirements and the main theme of the Feanorians.

Can our content get a bit spicy, yes or no?

Yes. The Zine allows ratings for ratings G to M. We require that you tag your works properly and accordingly to the themes you are exploring. Please see below a short guide on ratings

G: Content suitable for most ages, usually those aged five and older. It should be free of coarse language, violence, and adult themes.

PG: Some content may not be suitable for young children, usually those below nine years of age. There may be minor violence without serious injury, mild suggestive material, or minor coarse language that is justified by context.

PG-13: Contains content not suitable for children. Suitable for teens, 13 years and older. May contain moderate violence, coarse language, suggestive material, and/or adult themes such as drug addiction that are contextually justified.

R: Contains content suitable for mature teens and older only. Not suitable for children below 16 years. May contain non-explicit adult themes, references to (sexual) violence, frequent or strong coarse language or drug use.

M: Contains content suitable for mature teens and older only. Not suitable for children below 16 years. May contain non-explicit adult themes, references to (sexual) violence, frequent or strong coarse language or drug use. Please note that contributors themselves must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the Zine. This is to ensure a safe environment, but also in case of legality if we do come to the conclusion that the zine will be paid and that the income will be donated.
