Hello everyone! We are almost at the end of our journey - how great is that! In preparation of our final chapters, and to give everyone another change to catch up, we will be having a week break starting today.

We also want to do something special to mark the end of our first read-along, so this time will be very useful to us as well 😉

(Another late) Chapter Ramble: The Bridge of Khazad-Dúm

Wow, there was a ton of action packed into this chapter! It didn't skimp on the tension leading up to it either. Poor Gimli, what a way to find out what happened to his relatives! "We cannot get out...They are coming," were their last written entries. A few paragraphs later, Gimli and Legolas repeat those exact words! They're in the same position that the dead dwarves were. GASP, will the Fellowship meet the same fate? 😱😅

Speaking of repetition, all the "booms" and "dooms" and "booms dooms" really lent to the eerie and perilous vibes of the mines - before, during, AND after the action. "Doom, doom. The drum-beats faded," were the final lines of the chapter, and WHEW I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding!

Also, shoutout to Bilbo for gifting Frodo the mithril corslet and to Thorin to gifting it to Bilbo; Frodo's still alive! Unlike Gandalf. RIP to the wizard. 🔥🔥🧙‍♂️🔥🔥

(Late) Discussion Post: The Ring Goes South

They set off at last! I did not make the connection until now that there are nine members of the Fellowship and the Ringwraiths each. Also, both Pippin and Bilbo saying the Hobbits must stick together got me all 🥺🥺🥺

Having representatives of elves, dwarves, and humans on the team reminds me of RPG games and other such media, down to their preferred weapons (bows 🏹, axes🪓, and swords⚔️). Gandalf is, well, Gandalf 🔮 And the Hobbits have heart lol ❤️ It probably goes to show just how influential LOTR is to modern fantasy. BG3 and Dunmeshi (at least what I understand of it via dashboard osmosis) come to mind.

As someone who previously only saw the movies, it's interesting that the broken sword was mended and used by Aragorn this early. Will it still be the proof of kingship later, or will it be something else?

Also, "I go to find the sun!" Lmao Legolas pls 😅
