Imo for a ship to be considered a rarepair they have to fall under two categories

-the characters interact atleast ONCE (this one is very important because if not it would be considered a crackship)

-it has a small amount of fanworks, it can be any kind, fics or art

okay sonic fandom. if I were to host a rarepair ship week thing. how would you like me to gauge what ship is a rarepair. of course there are a few that are defacto not rarepairs like sonadow but this is for stuff like sonilver and knuxadow and stuff

this is mostly because gauging rarepairs is really hard in the sonic fandom especially. espilver is Espio's most popular ship for example but compared to other more popular ships it seems like a rarepair, or how blazamy is easily the most popular f/f ship in the fandom yet it has just under 450 works on AO3.

the criteria for AO3 fics is at least 350-400 fics. if that pairing has over 400 fics I wouldn't consider it a rarepair, though this is not an absolute. mostly the bottom line is no sonadow, sonamy, ect will be considered a rare pair for this
