I have somehow gotten to whatever language level means everyone else should understand this shit too. I've been reading Spanish daily at this point (all my devices are in Spanish, I read manga in Spanish for fun) and whenever I see something in Spanish, if the words are stuff I know I automatically start reading it. It's gotten to the point though that I keep forgetting other folks can't understand it. Like, what do you mean you can't read the instructions on my phone?? There's just a Spanish layer over English words, why can't you see the words??? And I keep forgetting my stuff is all in Spanish, so I'll ask folks to put their number in my phone or I'll be moving through the files on my computer in front of my class groupmates and folks will mention how they can't read it or ask if I understand it and I just. I have to stop and process and realize again, ohhh right. Whoopse daisy.

I have so many funny stories from this too, like from when my dad tried to put the family VPN on my phone but he couldn't install it (since he couldn't read anything on the playstore) or put in the password (because I had to flip through intro screens all in Spanish first). Or like how I have to live translate my Youtube recaps whenever I show them to my friends. One of my friends is just so tired of me that whenever my automated missed-call messages come in (in Spanish, of course), he just tells me to speak American LOL.

your non-humanity doesn't have to always be perfect and curated and something you can post about.

something i struggle a lot with when i pay attention to social media is it changes how i think of myself. i go from curating posts to curating my experiences, trying to pretend the small imperfections arent there. trying to turn every experience into a story i can share. ive gotten better about it but sometimes it still creeps up on me.

there are going to be flaws and inconsistencies. that doesnt mean youre a fraud. that doesnt mean you lied. there are going to be things that dont line up with the experiences you hear online. thats normal, thats natural.

what you see online is curated, sometimes less than others but it always requires the conscious intent of "this is what i want to be seen and shared" "this is an experience worth noting". folks dont always post about that one time their claws came out when they were listening to music and they nearly nicked someone with them. they dont always share the time they saw a deer in the woods and were suddenly salivating. they dont always mention how they got so stressed that they sunk their teeth into their pillow and sat there frozen and cried for an hour.

sometimes they do share the small things, but those small things arent always what gain traction and end up on your feed.

your experience is valid, even if it isnt always reflected in what others in the community choose to share. you are valid, those discontinuities, those imperfections, those moments where you felt like what you did wasnt something someone who was "truly" non-human would do, are part of your unique experience. and the uniqueness of your experience does not invalidate it.

dont force yourself into a box. dont force your experience to be palatable.

Fuck Mr. or Mrs., here're the abbreviations I like (that no one will really ever use for me, but I can dream):

- Mx. -> Pretty standard, most folks default to it when they learn I'm nonbinary. Awkward for me to say cause it just feels like Ms. with a harder end sound and my words usually flow together, making Mx just sound like Ms anyway, but it's still okay. 5/10, average.

- M. -> I actually really like M. Fenn [lastName] written out, but "mist" has a similar (if not as bad) speaking downside as Mx. No one really uses it automatically, so I'd have to explain to folks irl, but it's not that complicated. +2 points since I like the neutrality of M vs Mr or Ms, but -0.5 points because of the lingering verbal awkwardness, so 6.5/10.

- Mm. -> "Mistrum" is a lot more distinctly different from "mister" or "miss" (especially with my accent), but the humps in Mm blur before my eyes in a way M and Mx don't. Still weird, but not that bad. 6/10.

- Title (Dr., teacher, etc) -> Takes work to earn, but absolutely wonderful once it's gotten. It has the benefit of being completely gender neutral without being confusing to others, so it's a good way to hide transness from the cis folks. It also doesn't require much thought about your own gender in the first place—if you earned it, you get to use it automatically—but because of that, it's not necessarily gender-affirming. 9.5/10.

- None -> What most folks use since no one's really using honorifics for a college student. Not very gender, but also not bad gender. 4/10.

- Mw. (Meow/Mew) -> I'm just a cat in a dog body <3 Definitely makes the ears tingle with good gender/species vibe, but much harder to explain to folks. Fits the Mr and Ms dichotomy, though. 9/10 out of sheer euphoria.

- Tm. (Tom) -> Just a more explicitly masculine version of Mw. Doesn't fit as well with Ms and Mr, but also the difference helps show that it's its own thing. I feel catlike but not as much like a tomcat, though, so it gives a little less euphoria. (I feel like a couple of cats from the Cats musical would use Tm though.) 7/10
