Home| Ask | Navigation I am dead. "A fire mutt knows only a single sensation: agony. No sight, no sound, no feeling except the unrelenting burning of flesh. Perhaps there are periods of unconsciousness, but what can it matter if I can't find refuge in them? I am Cinna's bird, ignited, flying frantically to escape something inescapable. The feathers of flame that grow from my body. Beating my wings only fans the blaze. I confume myself, but to no end." Real or not real?

"The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind."

[Katniss gave Peeta a wary look, obviously not entirely happy with the idea of splitting up. But she nodded her assent anyways and turned towards the hall opposite the direction the blonde was headed.
It could've been minutes for all she knew by the time Katniss finally made her way back to the lobby. It had felt like hours, honestly, but time always seemed slower in the arena to her.] Peeta?
[She called out his name again, voice rising only slightly in volume.] Peeta? There's nothing here.
|| slight past... sort of
[Smirking at her notorious annoyance, the blond took hold of his own weapon – a clean sword – and walked at her side into the building.
The lobby (or well, it seemed to be a lobby) was rather run-down, infested with spiderwebs, dust, and the occasional large insect crossing the room. The sofas were tattered and covered with their own share of dust, the bell on the counter appearing as if it had not seen a human hand to ring it for years.]
Hey, it doesn't seem we'll find any food here. I'll go check the first floor, okay? I'll be careful. [He nodded to her lightly, showing that he was headstrong on the idea, as he made his way towards the stairway. Turning to look at her, he lowered his sword a bit.] Call out if we need each other?

[She glanced at her partner out of the corner of her eye at the 'wing it' comment, but said nothing as she shifted her bow off of her shoulder, released his hand, and loaded the weapon.] Let's go.

|| slight past... sort of
[Trying his best not to frown at her sigh, he took her hand instead, leading them through the streets towards a block of purely apartment buildings.]
Alright, it could be that one. It looks a bit less decrepit than the rest. [Truly, the apartment block he gestured to appeared to have brighter brick walls, and the parts covered in paint were smudged with soot, but the paint was cracking much less; it was as if the people owning the place before had been taking good care of it.] Maybe it's a good sign.
[However, he also knew it could be a trap. He shifted his weight, clearly dubious about this decision.] Should we wing it?

[She gave another quiet sigh - though whether it was towards his gesture, or the task ahead of them, she wasn't sure.] Yeah.

|| slight past... sort of
[Peeta nodded stoically, his eyes trained on the clear fear in his ally's eyes. Perhaps it wasn't noticeable to others, but after being in such positions so often with her – to their dismay –, he had learned to distinguish the emotions in her face. The negative ones, at least.] It's our best shot.
[He took her hand, pressing his lips to it in a quiet, loving gesture.] Shall we?

[He was right. There wasn't a lot of options hunting-wise within an abandoned city - she supposed whatever drove the humans out must've gotten rid of the animals as well. But as she gazed up at the decrepit old buildings in front of them, an overwhelming fear of the unknown began to bubble within the pit of her stomach. They had no clue what was within those apartments - and, even worse, they appeared as if they could collapse at any given moment. Still, though..
Katniss sighed and nodded.] Ground floor, to check for food.

|| slight past... sort of
We probably will either way, I suppose. I feel particularly unsettled in this arena. It's just... [Peeta looked around them, observing the cracks in the ground.] The earthquake could have damaged the buildings, too. We need to be careful about that.
Maybe our best chance are the buildings when it comes to food, though. If they're abandoned... Maybe they'll also look abandoned in the inside, you know? Almost-empty kitchens? We might find something in there.

We can take watches. Like the first arena.
[She pursed her lips slightly at the attempted joke and shrugged.] I have a bit of squirrel left from the forest, but that's it. I don't know where we'd find any food here.
|| slight past... sort of
What about sleeping, though? [Peeta gave the place around them a look, himself, analysing the possibilities.] We shouldn't be too out in the open. Where do we go? An alleyway?
That sounded much more odd than I intended it to. [He smiled just a bit at her, attempting to amuse.] Or maybe a ground floor. How are we regarding food, too?

I.. Don't know. [Katniss once again took the opportunity to take in their surroundings - however, this time she focused mainly on the buildings in front of them, the slightest of frowns on her face. Anything could be inside of them - and with her luck the last time she'd been in one of these city buildings, she wasn't willing to risk it.] We'd be better off out here.

|| slight past... sort of
[The young man just grinned a bit, leaning in to press his forehead against hers, even if it was just for a moment. 'Alright' was such a broad term, though, was it not?] Uninjured.

[He gazed at her for a moment, his thoughts appearing to slow down from the look in her eyes.] We need to see where we can settle... Do you think that any of these buildings would be safe? [He pulled back carefully, not wishing to make her feel uncomfortable if she did not want him near.]

[Katniss hadn't really taken much notice to the petname. Of the entire time they'd found each other again, Peeta had already said so much to throw her off-guard. Now, it was almost like a routine - she knew when to expect something from him, and even if she wasn't expecting it, it wasn't hard to act like it hadn't genuinely surprised her.]
Funny. [She uncrossed the arms that had been so tight across her chest and gave another glance around the lot, before allowing herself to briefly close her eyes at his tender kiss.] Are you okay?
|| slight past... sort of?
Empty lot, lots of windows. Okay, I’m on my way, beautiful.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
[Peeta had not noticed he’d used a pet name until the message was already sent, but he was hoping she would not mind, for it had been merely his subconscious speaking for itself. Perhaps she would take it as part of the act, although there was definitely a part of him that wished otherwise. That, even more so, wished that it would make her smile, or blush, or… React in any way that was not pretending.
Soon, he found the empty lot she had spoken of, and it was not much longer until he had found her – the usual dark braid down her back, the usual stance of alert and exhaustion at once.]
Good thing this was the only empty lot I came across. [He went to her, a soft smile growing on his lips as he thought of what to do, soon planting a brief kiss on her forehead. The action was gentle, and clearly full of care, yet his movements were still awkward and unsure if one paid extreme attention. She had appeared wary with him lately, and forcing his affections onto her – even through the act – would not make his approach any better. Quite the contrary, he believed.]

busted? <3
Busted: Your character will catch mine doing something they shouldn’t.
At last, clean water.
Arthur pushed back a few of the lower tree branches closer to the river’s bank. The sound of water over rocks a soothing and familiar sound often missed since leaving District Four and landing in the arena. Kneeling down, Arthur put his hands through the cool water; cupping them to bring the liquid to his lips. Taking the mouthful, he let out a small sigh of happiness as the cool water trickled down his throat.
Looking around, his blue eyes caught a sliver of movement near the opposite bank. Pulling the knife from his boot, as his sword would be too conspicious, Arthur moved back from his position and used the greenery to hide his position as he moved to the place opposite to where he saw the movement.
Taking a breath, Arthur used the knife to pull back the undergrowth to reveal the opposite bank. His eyes widened at the image, and he hastily closed his eyes and moved the undergrowth back. His face flushed red at the image he knew he was not meant to see.
On the other side of the bank, Katniss Everdeen turned around in the water toward the opposite bank where she thought she’d heard a sound. Not seeing anyone, she stood up in the water. She needed to dry off and move one before someone tried to kill her.

He tilts his forehead down to rest against mine and pulls me closer. His skin, his whole being radiates heat from being so near the fire, and I close my eyes, soaking in his warmth. I breathe in the smell of snow-dampened leather and smoke and apples, the smell of all those wintry days we shared before the Games. I don’t try to move away. Why should I anyway? His voice drops to a whisper.

Yeah… Yeah, I was. One moment I’d been going to heal my shoulder in the lake, and the next…
I’ll tell you of it when I see you. Where did you wind up?
