spoilery fallout ramblings under the cut

ok so if the credits sequence of episode 8 is to be believed new vegas and the securitron army has fallen at some point between 2281 and 2296, possibly due to the resurgence of the zealot brotherhood of steel led by elder maxson, i would assume after the prydwen's maiden voyage to the boston area in 2287. that sorta tracks bc the canon endings of the games have always sort of leaned more toward the BoS becoming more and more radicalized. the only reason they let in new recruits is bc elder lyons proved it was the only way they were going to get more troops (especially seeing as apparently they aren't giving the sex talk to their boys now? pretty sure the boys in boston knew how to swing a sword if you know what i mean)

if you know anything about the BoS you know that Arthur Maxson is just a pawn in a greater game, he spouts the right rhetoric to suit the council's concerns. i appreciated that homeboy knew that if he set foot back in the BoS he was toast for now being a mutant, but i do wish they'd done a bit more with that. had him come back to help in the final confrontation or something. but like, the ongoing conflict with the NCR suddenly coming to an end with shady sands going kablooey now makes it make a lot of sense how the BoS are so powerful at this stage. they haven't had the one major hindrance to their expansion since then. they've built at least one more airship, probably more. they're probably terrorizing more of the wasteland these days.

people do seem to forget the brotherhood are a techo-religious cult. why else do you think maximus recognized the cult behavior in vault 4 lmao

from a Fallout fan's perspective, it's a ton of fun seeing someone else's interpretation of events, and how they work with the themes. there's a lot i liked and just a few things i didn't. to me it's in the same pocket as adaptations that sort of take on a life of their own like Warcraft and Game of Thrones' early seasons. Not a 1:1 retelling or so painstakingly faithful to the source material that it alienates people new to the franchise. Just a fun story. Maybe it'll be considered canon, maybe it'll be gently sidelined like 76 or BoS. But it's fun, it plays well in the world, and really, that's what you want from an adaptation.

I'm excited to see where season 2 goes because they've basically all but confirmed there will be one
