I really can’t wait to get out of this town. I miss the beach and just going on a boat every weekend with a bunch of friends. As much as the snow is fun I miss the tan and trying to explain to my dads that I wanna go to UCLA for well their law program but also the sun. Do the couple years in California and then switch to Harvard. Now only again explain to my dads why I wanna make this choice.
@limastarters
FINN NODDED ALONG ATTENTIVELY. sometimes it felt like she played guidance counselor to all of lima, which, most of the time was no big deal. both of her parents were notoriously good at advice, so it was only natural she had come to form a reputation of her own that mirrored that. “sounds like you had a lot of fun in los angeles?” she asked with a smile. the trip to california did sound fun, but she wouldn’t trade it in a heartbeat for the one she had went on to chicago. though the mention of UCLA made her raise a brow, “did you like l.a that much? i thought you were pretty set on harvard?”

Maybe Eli was a little brazen, but she was also keen and observant. The way Finn tightened her grip on the counter at the mention of her alleged sexual encounter with Leo was definitely not lost on the brunette. Something for her to mull over later. “Sure it wasn’t,” Eli said, adjusting her crossed arms and straightening out her shoulders as she stared at Finn, “and you know, that sad attempt at journalism tells the truth half the time.” She was aware that JBI Jr. was a bullshitter through and through, but sometimes his sources were accurate. There were certain things the muck raker got right and the whole situation with Finn getting fired? It was fishy. Why would she be fired over a lie? It didn’t add up. But whatever, that wasn’t really the point of their argument. Finn’s even temper was unsurprisingly just making Eli more annoyed. “You are being condescending. You’re talking to me like I’m a child even though what I’m saying is fucking valid,” she insisted, shrugging her shoulders as she furrowed her eye brows and squinted her eyes. As far as Eli was concerned, she was being logical…and her logic was that friends should be loyal and that blood was thicker than water. At the mention of Julien, there was a hint of a spark. A little bit of anger. Finally some emotion. “It’s not a game, Finny,” Eli promised, voice full of contempt, “and it’s not like I said anything fucked up or untrue. All I’m saying is that maybe you should check on him.” She wasn’t going to say more because quite frankly? Not the issue at hand. Eli was a big girl and she’d take her problems with Julien up with him at a later date. Right now—her focus was getting Finn to admit that this situation was shady and fucked up. “You only doing things for yourself ‘once in a blue moon’ is literally no one’s fault but your own so don’t try to bring that up like it has anything to do with me. No one made you a martyr. But for the record—this? Is not that,” Eli huffed, cheeks reddening at her frustration. “So answer the question. Did you really not think that was going to be hurtful towards Ivy? Or did you just not care? Or,” Eli thought, adding another option once it dawned on her as an actual possibility, “did you straight up not think of her at all?” When Finn decided to throw a match into a canister of gasoline by bringing up Naomi and Brooks, Eli rolled her eyes and borderline laughed in her face. “Wow,” Eli drawled, shaking her head as she really took in the sight of Finn, “that situation was completely different and you know it. But you know what? I don’t remember you complaining when my keeping Naomi distracted meant that you got to have some uninterrupted quality time with Brooks. But please, continue to act so innocent.” They were veering off course. This conversation wasn’t about Eli’s fucked up high school relationship. It was about Finn’s lack of compassion or care for her little sister. “I don’t even care about all this shit. Whatever, maybe I don’t have morals or whatever. But don’t act like you do because you fucking don’t. Not if you really don’t think there’s anything wrong with what you did.”
FINN WALKED A FINE LINE OF LASHING BACK OUT AT ELI’S OIL FIRE WITH A FEEBLE BUCKET OF WATER OR BITING HER TONGUE. between the comments about julien and leo and now brooks, she felt like banishing eli from her apartment and telling naomi that she could never invite her over ever again. as she opened her mouth to fling some retort about how wrong and out of line eli was, she found herself lifting her jaw back up and biting down on her lip to keep her tongue from speaking words she knew it never should. what was she doing indulging eli like this? she knew better. if finn wasn’t going to issue the unnecessary apology eli felt she was owed, the younger of the pair would lash out until she received whatever reaction felt satisfactory to her. and maybe she was being condescending and deflective, but she thought too much about her actions to do something so stupid that would that would only cause more trouble. “eli. . .” she started, before sighing. finn looked her up and down, knowing well enough that eli was a stick of dynamite. and her wick was only beginning to burn meaning it was only a matter of time she got really aggressive. she had to do all she could to diffuse that before permanent damage was done. no matter how angry or how hurt she was by eli’s words “i’ve given you all my answers and laid everything out for you, there’s nothing i can do to help that you don’t like what you’re hearing.” she said plainly, though she began to absently chew on her fingernails, which, was usually a tell tale sign she was getting anxious, or impatient, or both. “you didn’t come here to tear me apart so. . .” a defeated shrug, “let’s just knock this off.” though it was merely a suggestion, her mind was clearly made up as she moved to gather her things into her satchel bag that also set on the kitchen counter. “you can just hang out here until naomi gets back, i think i’m gonna go get a coffee and keep working or something.” odd for the late hour, but she’d rather work away all her real life stress than put herself in an environment where she risked saying something she’d regret. slinging her bag of her shoulder and grabbing her keys, she flashed a very unhappy eli a close lipped smile, “have fun tonight.” she vocalized politely, though rushed out of her own apartment, only feeling like she was able to breathe once she was out of eli’s sight.
END.

brooklyn :
@finnschuesters
Okay, so coming back to Lima was basically a fuckin’ disaster. Brooklyn knew that it was going to be rough - it was going to be even worse once his parents realized he wasn’t going to be headed back to New York - but slowly reintroducing himself to people he had known since he was a kid was definitely taking it’s toll on the Sterling kid. He had never felt so much like running and hiding before in his whole life… but at every damn corner, that seemed to be the only option. It took everything he had within him not to ditch out of the auditorium before Mamma Mia was over ( his Dad’s threat of sleeping in the backyard might have also had something to do with it ), and he had to kick himself to keep from fuckin’ run as soon as the curtain call was over. He only found himself damning his self control, though, once he spotted Finn Schuester, busy as always, helping people find their way out of the auditorium.
Sure, Finn hadn’t hurt him like Naomi and Eli had - he knew somewhere deep down that the girl would probably rather throw herself into a volcano than hurt someone on purpose… that didn’t make the memories sting any less. He thought he’d have time to find his way around her before she managed to notice him - he wish he had just taken his chances and sprinted for another exit - but quicker than he could wrap his head around it, he was standing face to face with the Schuester. His parents so uselessly lingering behind him, and giving him no opportunity for an excuse to get the hell out of there. “Uuuh,” Sure, it was lame - it was basically nothing - but at least he had kept himself from spitting out the venom that Naomi and Eli had had to go through. “I just -” Brooklyn hesitated. “Good show, Schuester. Didn’t think anything could beat that time your brother made the whole band suffer through Legally Blonde, but I mean - good job proving me wrong. Even if ABBA makes me wanna… you know. Lose it.”
FINN’S WEEK HAD BEEN FILLED WITH ENOUGH DRAMA TO MAKE HER FEEL LIKE SHE WAS BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL. between her little brother getting caught cheating backstage and eli st.james tearing into her for taking a trip to chicago with leo mccarthy, she was ready to hide in her bedroom for a couple of days. the fact that it was closing night expedited her efforts to politely usher everyone from the finn hudson auditorium. the way finn saw it, the sooner they were out, the sooner she was home. it seemed everyone enjoyed the show and hearing the casual chatter about what audience members thought or how they intended to spend the rest of their evenings made her smile softly to herself. it was all expected, all apart of the bustling performing arts scene in lima, ohio. but most unexpected was finding herself face to face with brooklyn sterling-duval. initially, she was stunned. the heartache of a teenaged finn schuester pulled itself out of the depths of her forgotten feelings and settled over her in a thick coat that seemed to slow time down. as she stared at him, she suddenly became very self conscious of what she was wearing and how her recent cut and bleach job looked. what was wrong with her? it had been years since brooklyn skipped town after everything blew up, so why did finn suddenly feel like she was still watching brooks across from her at their lunch table while he doted on naomi? it wasn’t common knowledge that in high school she’d fallen for her best friend’s boyfriend, but a single glance at how she looked at him back then in addition to this deer in headlights reaction she was having now, it was kind of obvious.
when the other spoke, time rushed back at her full speed, she slammed into it as if it were a wall, and she felt obnoxiously dizzy. “brooks ━ ?” she said quietly, a vague question in her tone. finn’s first instinct was to hug him. it had been so long. it had been too long. she settled for a safer, “brooklyn, i didn’t know you were in town.” the circumstances were tense, and weird, but even after all this time she couldn’t help but smile warmly at him. for her, it was easier to put away all that had went down with naomi and just focus on this reunion, treat it like a good thing. “good show?” she repeated, her smile only growing as she settled into a familiar groove of conversation. “i’m shocked, seriously, i figured maybe you’d prefer something. . . rougher around the edges.” finn teased, really putting herself out there as if to say, ‘look! it’s me! i’m here! we can still get along!’, which really made her feel like she was back in high school. at confirmation ABBA made him want to ‘you know. lose it.’ finn nodded briefly. that sounded about right and it went far enough to make her laugh softly. and then? she stepped out carelessly and curiously onto a limb, saying what was really at the front of her mind, who knew when she might get another chance? “look, i know it’s been. . . a while, but um, i’ve gotta say, i kind of want to know what you’ve been up to, and there’s no obligation, but━” why did she feel so nervous? finn was grown, she could do this. clearing her throat, she respectfully and slightly more confidently finished, “i think you owe me some answers and a coffee sometime before you disappear on me again.”

Eli watched from the doorway as Finn made her way back to the kitchen table where her laptop and notes were all strewn about. Once Finn explained that Naomi wasn’t home but that she was welcome to stay, she pulled her phone out and shot Naomi a “????” text before sighing and hopping on the kitchen counter. Eli put the food down next to her and watched as the now-blonde went about her business as if she wasn’t sitting there shooting daggers at her, so eventually the younger girl spoke up. Had she come in a little hot with the accusations about Finn and Leo? Maybe so. But they had been in each other’s lives long enough that Eli didn’t feel the need to hold back. “It wasn’t like that?” Eli deadpanned with a scoff, rolling her eyes slightly before she did a quick scan of Finn with her intuitive bullshit detector, “kinda like you getting fired from your literal job for fucking Leo at your place of work wasn’t like that, right?” Eli hadn’t forgotten about that little stint in the muck raker that had made her all the more suspicious of Finn’s relationship with Leo and she clearly wasn’t above bringing it up (even if it wasn’t true). She wasn’t trying to hurt Finn, but she was trying to get her to just admit that what she was doing was fucked up. The sage advice the older girl had doled out, unwarranted, only fed Eli’s rage. “Don’t be condescending,” she spat, shaking her head as she hopped off the counter and stalked towards Finn with her arms crossed. “But if you really want to give out cliche bad advice that I could probably locate on the shitty home decor at target, maybe start with Julien. Maybe you can tell him to think with his head and not his dick.” Once Eli got started, it was hard to get her to stop. Like both her parents, like her sister, there was a volcano that lived inside her always waiting to erupt. “I just—” Eli frustratedly pressed her palms into her temples as she tried to make sense of the situation and all of her anger towards Finn, “I don’t get where your loyalty is? Like…did you really not think that was going to be hurtful towards Ivy? Or did you just not care?”
ELI WAS CLEARLY JUST PISSED. finn didn’t mind rocking the boat a little and going head to head when necessary, but with family and family friends like the st.james’ she put it off as a last resort. it wasn’t her place within the dynamic of this particular set of family friends. the angsty, brooding, aggressive ones were reserved for trace and eli, and sometimes even wren. finn’s place was peacemaker, and sometimes, like right now, that extended beyond her own siblings. “it wasn’t like that.” the elder repeated, tone even, though her grip on her counter top tightened. “and that didn’t happen? you’re smarter than believing that sad attempt at journalism.” there was a bit more force in her tone, but nothing outrageous. dropping her head, she cleared both her throat and tried to clear her thoughts. getting angry would only add fuel to the flame that was eli st.james. still the leo comment stung. yes it was true, no eli didn’t know that, but losing her practical, respectable job, over a stupid, drunken misstep and being ridiculed for it by eli who sold drugs for a living? it was humiliating. finn could move past it though. she could rid the frustration from her mind and start again calmly. “i’m not being condescending, i’m just trying to get you to think logically about this.” she explained, looking up from the counter. as eli stalked closer and let julien’s name fly out of her mouth, finn was noticeably more on edge. with one hand leaned on the counter and her other on her hip, she tilted her head before shaking it at the brunette, “no. . . no we’re not going to play this game.” she said firmly, only a hint of anger slipping past her carefully built barrier, “you don’t bring my family into this because you’re angry with me.” finn told eli, almost as a warning. though she wasn’t yelling or outwardly angry, she was tense, and this was about as tense finn usually got. “eli, did you ever think that me doing things for myself once in a blue moon has nothing to do with you or ivy?” she posed. finn could take a lot, she could internalize a lot, but she wasn’t going to get shoved around like this. averting her figurative glance from the moral high road, she flew low for a second in hopes of getting eli to back off and added, “and i don’t say this to be disrespectful, but i just really want you to think if you’re in any place to lecture me about morality, specifically when it comes to the topic of relationships.”

julien :
After the cast of Mamma Mia! took their final bow of the night and the curtains finally closed, Julien was a mess. The weight of everything that had happened between him, Ivy and Rory crushed him so badly it was almost comical, like someone had pushed the grand piano from the choir room off of the tallest building in Lima right on to Julien’s body. Normally after a show, he hung out in the lobby of the auditorium and mingled with all his friends who had come to support, accepted compliments from people’s parents on his performance, and finished off the night by mobbing bread stix with the cast and getting excited to do it all again the next day. Not this time. Once the show was over and people were getting ready to go, Julien hunted down Finn and asked if they could leave right away. There were times when her slightly overbearing and worrisome nature annoyed him, but in this moment he was grateful. She obliged to his request no questions asked. The ride home was silent aside from Springsteen playing softly through the speakers of his sister’s car. Julien kept his head leaned against the window and his gaze focused on the trees and houses whipping past them as his uneasy breath fogged up the glass. His mind had never been this frenzied, not even with Emory. What had he done? He’d screwed everything up. Not only was Rory not talking to him, but Ivy had blown up at him too. He felt completely alone and he had no one to blame but himself. When Finn pulled up to their house, Julien didn’t even thank her before he opened the door to let himself out. He almost made it, but she was too quick. In one swift motion, his ass was back in the seat and he was closing the door. “Finn, please,” he begged, finally turning to look at her. The state of his heart and mind were written all over his face. He was unsettled and defeated and above all else, he was sad. “I don’t want to,” he started saying, but her gentle tone had a way of calming him down. Maybe talking to her would be good. Like their mom, Finn always knew how to make him feel better. She was always on his side and he needed that right now—someone to tell him everything was okay and that he was still a good person. A moment passed and then he released the tension in his shoulders and slumped into the passenger’s seat, dropping his face into his hands. “I messed up,” he finally said, voice cracking as he shook his head, “Rory…” This was hard. This was really hard. “I don’t want you to be disappointed in me,” he admitted, leaning back in his seat and staring blankly ahead at the front door of their house, “but she saw us kissing.” It dawned on Julien that she probably had no idea who ‘us’ consisted of, so he looked at her and tried to communicate it with his eyes. “I’ve—” he shrugged and took a deep breath, “Ivy.”
NURTURING CAME JUST AS EASILY TO FINN AS LECTURING DID, but most of the time she significantly eased up on julien. whether that was because when she had moved away from school, her little brother was the one to keep in touch most often or because she knew behind her julien had both their dad and dan to lecture him for his often stupid mistakes, was hard to say. she gave him a moment before sending him off, having a hunch he’d probably turn around and end up staying and talking. much like she had expected, julien chose to stay and now came the tough part where she listened. the listening itself wasn’t difficult, it was the becoming riddled with her own emotions and thoughts she had to shove aside for the purposes of being either objective, comforting, or sometimes both. she interjected only to click her tongue and gently remind him, “i could never be disappointed in you, jules.” and with that she let him continue speaking. at the revelation, finn’s own heart sank in sympathy for him. how he could get caught up and do this a second time was lost on her, but now wasn’t the time to poke or prod or lecture. the sadness was written all over julien’s face told her that much. it was almost a sixth sense to know exactly what her brother needed in the moment, so first, finn unbuckled and leaned over to give her brother a hug. finn’s assurance came with both words and physical acts, but she’d begin with an embrace that really communicated the ‘i’m not disappointed in you and i’m here for you’ of it all. when she pulled away and leaned back into her own seat, she sighed a little as she looked her julien up and down. cheating was wrong, finn actively despised cheating on a more personal level since her brush with the eli, naomi, brooks situation, but she wasn’t going to sit there and tell julien he was a bad person. because he wasn’t. he was good, she knew that and she knew his heart. he was just a dumb kid who maybe needed a little babying from his older sister before he got a classic, ‘i’m just disappointed, you’re better than this’ speech from their father. “you aren’t a bad person for having feelings, jules.” she assured him, “and . . . this is allowed to impact you as much as it is everyone else.” maybe not the wisest advice, but julien wasn’t leo or naomi or wren. he didn’t want real. not right now at least. he’d want to be coddled, otherwise he’d just feel worse. that didn’t mean she wouldn’t offer up her gentle opinion of what he should do moving forward, keep his eyes on the horizon and not behind him, “you just. . . maybe you just need to protect your heart a little more and not jump into these commitments you can’t keep.”

here for you ( finn + julien )
𝚆𝙷𝙾: @julien-schuester && @finnschuesters 𝚆𝙷𝙴𝙽: the evening of thursday, august the sixth 𝚆𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴: finn’s car, outside of the schuester residence
FINN DIDN’T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH HER LITTLE BROTHER, but she figured all the whispering going on backstage paired with a delayed start of show couldn’t be good. luckily, she’d already coordinated with julien to take him after opening night of mamma mia, so at least she could pry a little before sending him on his way. of course she was worried, between being busy calling cues and keeping up with the show, every glance she got of him he looked miserable. as she pulled up to her childhood home with it’s perfectly mowed lawn and porch lights on, waiting for julien’s inevitable return, she fully moved her car into park and turn the key in the ignition so not to waste her gas. who was she to know how long this little heart to heart might take? julien though, seemed to be keen on getting out of the car to which finn near instantly gripped him by the arm and reeled him back into her passenger seat, “hey, not so quick now.” she said gently. it was no secret that finn took after her mother in the sense that she babied julien. maybe it was the residual guilt from having been so mean to him as kids or maybe it was just the fact he himself was still just a kid in her eyes and most of the actions she’d get on wren’s case for could be dismissed for julien for that reason. now that he was settled back in the car, she carefully scanned his expression before gently prompting with a, “do you want to talk about it?” which she hoped was more open ended and a less ‘what happened?’ gossip-y type question. “i don’t have to be home for a minute so. . .” she shrugged, “you know i’m here for you jules, judgement free, we can just talk.” a pause, “if you want, that is.”

it was summer break, school was still out for another couple more weeks. usually students and teachers leave their hometown to travel with family or have fun with their best friends. mckinley was different though. here most of the student were along with alumi and they were putting on a production of mamma mia. but there was time to spare before beth had to go back to the high school so she settled down at lima bean for lunch. the former blonde caught sight of finn she waved over at her. “hey you, i’m expecting to see a row of schuester’s in the front row tonight,” she smiled at her. // @finnschuesters
FINN WAVED TO THE OLDER GIRL. there really wasn’t much of an age gap between beth and herself truth be told, but seeing as their interactions existed almost exclusively within inter-family exchanges that changed some things. beth was also now colleague of her older brother which didn’t help much with finn viewing her as much older than she actually was. collaborating as stage manager for mamma mia with beth and leo serving as directors had altered that perception a little though. finn’s clicking away at her laptop ceased when the other struck up conversation. laughing a little, both a nod and her words followed, “yeah, my parents will definitely be there. i’d be surprised if daniel wasn’t too. can’t say for wren, but, i’m sure they’ll love it.”

𝔴𝔥𝔬𝔰𝔢 𝔰𝔦𝔡𝔢 𝔞𝔯𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔬𝔫 (𝔣𝔱. 𝔢𝔩𝔦 + 𝔣𝔦𝔫𝔫)
WHO: @finnschuesters & @eli-stjames WHERE: finn’s apartment WHEN: wed, august 5, evening
After Eli’s date with Naomi at her and Finn’s apartment, it was safe to say that the brunette was posted up on cloud nine. After months of what felt like loss after loss, she finally felt like things were starting to fall into place again. Maybe this thing she had going on with Naomi could really be something good. Unsurprisingly after their date, they had made plans to see each other again almost immediately. This was how Eli found herself walking up the front steps of Naomi’s building on a Wednesday night with a bag of take-out in one hand and a little stuffed animal for Noa in the other (which Eli admittedly felt kind of dumb buying, but her soft side won out in that moment). She’d been texting Naomi to say she was close but still hadn’t heard back. She figured she was just inside with her daughter and not paying attention to her phone, so she let herself into the building and made her way up to the apartment without thinking anything of the silence. Once she reached the front door, she knocked a couple of times and looked around mindlessly, waiting to be let in. Eli’s face always gave away her emotions, so when it was FInn who opened the door, she didn’t even try to hide her disappointment or bubbling anger. “Hey,” she said curtly, taking a deep breath as she narrowed her eyes in on Finn, “is Naomi here? I have,” she lifted up the bag, “dinner or whatever.” Where was Naomi? Shit…maybe running late on her way back from work? Eli really hadn’t considered that option. “Are you gonna let me in or are we just gonna stand here staring at each other?” the brunette asked, raising a brow as she rolled her eyes slightly and pushed past Finn to set the food and stuffed animal on the kitchen counter. She tried to take a calming breath, but her inability to bite her tongue was getting the best of her. “So,” she started, crossing her arms as she leaned against the doorway and stared at her family friend who had turned out to be quite the traitor, “really cool pictures of Leo from Chicago, Finny. Definitely not questionable at all. Totally normal of you to post a picture of Ivy’s ex-boyfriend in bed like that.”
STAGE MANAGING MAMMA MIA WAS KIND OF TAKING A LOT OUT OF HER. long had finn forgotten how demanding the mckinley theatre scene was and despite being far past her time there, she was happy to help with a summer show. naomi had enlightened her that trace of all people had some choice words about her participating in the production, which, whatever, at least she wasn’t working as a mechanic. mamma mia was a one time situation, had she not been fired from the station in the nature that she had, this probably wouldn’t have come about in the first place. point being, with show so close she was excited for it to all be over and done with. finn sat on her kitchen counter, carefully concentrating on artfully switching between flipping through her notes for the crew on their less than satisfactory scene changes and touching up a wedding shoot she had done a couple of weeks back. the knocks almost went unanswered until finn realized there had been knocks in the first place. setting her things aside, she hopped off the counter and hurried over to throw open the door. she was probably more surprised than she should’ve been, “eli. . .” she breathed out, brows furrowing at the brunette’s aggressive nature. eli couldn’t still be mad, could she? “right, yeah, of course, come in.” she held the door open wider for the eldest st.james to enter, then closed and locked it behind her. “naomi’s not here. i think she’s visiting with her mom, but i’m not sure.” finn explained, tensing at the. . . energy eli’s presence brought. “you’re welcome to stay though.” she followed after her and tried to get back to the work she left out in the kitchen. her eyes were glued to her laptop’s screen, but she could practically feel eli’s eyes on her. this was finn’s own fault for promising they could have it out back at home, but the last thing she wanted to do was argue. “eli. . .” the older girl sighed, looking from the screen and facing the other. “it wasn’t like that. . . i know you’re trying to protect ivy, but it was just a picture.” finn insisted, crossing her arms, “think with your head and not your heart.”
