As a Personal Trainer, is the Gym the best place to work from?
The best place to work is where you feel most fulfilled. Do remember that it is where you will spend most of your day. Unless you love it eventually you will come to resent it.
If you ask yourself the question "Would you do this for FREE?" and the answer is "NO" then you are in the wrong place.
Passion is major ingredient that makes a trainer successful or not. If you have it and you love what you do, then you stand more chance of success.

How can you earn more money without having to train more clients?
I just has this question asked to me on LinkedIN and here is what I replied:
Fisikal works as an online and mobile application that enables health professionals not only a series of tools that runs their business for them, but also an advanced communication platform where they can show THEIR OWN content to their clients. For example. Pete is a Personal Trainer, he has reached his limit on how many session he can do with clients each week. He wants to earn more but doesnt know how he can as he has no time. Anna has just had a baby and cannot afford coaching each week but she would love a personalised programme and support from a professional. She hears that Pete has a virtual service and she signs up. Pete decided that he wants to offer a virtual service for lets say $60 per month. Pete would do a skype call consultation with Anna then create a programme and upload it onto Fisikal. Anna would get a log in to Pete's site and they would be able to see their programme online there as well as any other important documentation from Pete. Pete would then puts Anna into a group (post natal) as he has some other clients that he offers the same support with. Pete would then each week make a video of himself giving 3 tips on how to exercise after having a baby... he uploads it to YouTube then embeds it in a communication to this group on Fisikal. Fisikal sends Anna and the other members of the group this email with the video embedded in Pete's branded Email (logo, motto and email address). Pete does this each week while she is a client. Pete also asks Anna to keep an exercise and food journal so he can see what she is up to when she is out and about. Anna logs this online but often she is out and about so she emails this to Fisikal at [email protected] and Pete then gets to see this. Pete reads it and replies - creating accountability and advanced support. The best thing is Pete can have many more clients like this as he only needs to focus half an hour per month with each client - so he can earn more money AND look after more clients without leaving home. I hope this example helps. Fisikal also SAVES Pete money each month on manual business administration such as paying in cheques, counting client credits and marking off sessions done, logging his expenses and filing the paper receipt - not to mention emailing or texting clients to remind them to show up for appointments. If you add all of this up it is usual around 3hour minimum per month.

How to recruit potential clients outside of the gym setting.
Offering a virtual membership where the member never needs to come to the Gym is one idea that works well. You can offer members advice, personalised programmes and support for a monthly fee. Consultations with your trainers could be done via Skype or online.

Who is working on programs that genuinely attempt to solve the need for the Fitness Industry to become an answer for the Health Care concerns of today? I'm curious to know what ideas are out there.
I think the best way is to start using the same systems that medical health professionals use. This way we raise our game and they can see that we are level with them in terms of the data we create on our clients / members. Keeping appointment notes is one such area. If you see a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist - they have to keep detailed notes on the appointment. If you see a gym instructor or PT they often dont write anything down. This is one easy way other professionals can see that we are increasing our standards so that they can trust us to work with them together instead of how we have it right now, them and us.
