Turns out, 2000 was 20 years ago. Which is odd, since 1980 was also.

this may be an Unpopular Opinion (even on tumblr) but like the 8-hour workday is just Too Gotdamn Long
like even sitting in an office for eight hours a day isn’t particularly pleasant (or healthy, as we are beginning to see) but when we’re talking about doing *actual work* for that same amount time it gets pretty fucking brutal
doing literally *anything* (even leisure activities) for eight hours straight tends to be less than enjoyable but when we’re talking about things like construction, landscaping, factory work, and hell, even foodservice and retail, eight hours is a fucking ETERNITY
i might just be a lazy weak-willed bitch but honestly i think i’m not entirely wrong

It’s pretty evident that people use gender conformity to determine which bi people are “actually gay” or “actually straight.” A bi man wearing a crop top and makeup will have his attraction to women dismissed because it’s “obvious” he is gay. A bi woman who is more traditionally feminine will have her attraction to women dismissed because it is “obvious” she is straight.
Gender conforming bi people aren’t straight.
Gender nonconforming bi people aren’t gay. Even when they are really gender nonconforming.
Believe people when they say they are bi.

He is MORE than welcome to stretch me so that I don’t go back to my natural shape either.
I’m designed in a certain way that things are forced into a stretched position 😳

Theoretically I don’t object to the idea of Harley Quinn moving away from The Joker’s influence and having that reflected in her costume, but that’s… not what her character designers have done. They’ve dropped the clown theme for a design based on a skimpy cheerleading uniform in the same colors as her traditional costume. If Harley’s costume change is supposed to reflect a new idependence, it shouldn’t be based on her old costume at all and should be something new and cool to represent self-reinvention, not just “we didn’t think the clown theme was sexy enough to sell to a modern audience”.
HOWEVER. You know what would be fun? If Harley decided to out-clown the Joker and steal his theme from him. Commit to the act in a way he never could and actually take up classes on clowning and physical comedy. Become Dr. Harley Quinn, the DCU’s leading expert on being a clown. When people think “the clown from Gotham” they don’t think of The Joker at all. That would be sweet, sweet revenge that I would love to read.

why is there such a stigma against wearing pads? like why is it that people who wear tampons are seen as ‘strong’ and ‘cool’? y’all know that someone people can’t wear them bc it hurts them or that they just don’t like them? stop making it seem like people who wear pads are childish and weak compared to those who wear tampons

Earlier today, a friend posted a link to a piece on The Atlantic about the mythology of “Karen”, and a couple of lines jumped out at me. Specifically:
1. “The target of Karen’s entitled anger is typically presumed to be a racial minority […], and so she is […] using her white femininity to present herself as a victim, when she is really the aggressor[…]”
and
2. “[a] white woman’s tears were, again, a weapon to unleash the authorities[…]”
Between the brilliant episode on Calendar Girl from The New Batman Adventures that Joshua Unruh and Caleb Masters did today on their podcast, An Animated Discussion, and those two lines, I was reminded of the 2004 Catwoman movie. (I know. I’m sorry, too.) But the reason I bring it up is because there’s a scene in the movie where Laurel Hedare, played by Sharon Stone, a white woman with power, uses her power and privilege to frame Patience Philips, aka Catwoman, played by Halle Berry, a Black woman.

Of course, the cherry on top of the framing her are crocodile tears as she sends the police after Catwoman for the alleged murder of her husband, and the fact that she at first pretended to be on Catwoman’s side so that she could use her as an end to her own means. Sure, Patience is in some ways empowered because of the mythology around Catwoman that the movie has set up, but it should also be pointed out that Laurel Hedare herself has nearly unbreakable, rock-hard skin as a result of the toxic cosmetics cream she’s been liberally applying for a long time, and thus is literally using a form of delicate, white femininity to present herself as the victim of Patience’s empowered Black woman.
The movie itself never actually delves into the racial politics of these two women; more than likely it’s a happy accident caused by Berry having been cast as Catwoman after Ashely Judd, a white woman, walked away from the film after having been attached to it for a while. Still, it’s an interesting moment in movie history, wildly relevant to current events, and if the story was ever retold in any capacity, I’d love to see a little bit of focus and light shed on the racial, classist, and political dynamics that both bring Laurel and Patience together and separate them. Also, I realize that as an Indian guy, I’m definitely not the authority on this topic, but that moment from the movie came to mind unbidden, especially because of the wicked smile that Hedare gives once the cops give chase to Catwoman, right after she was pretending to cry and grieve. (If you’re wondering about the Calendar Girl connection, it’s because both Calendar Girl and Laurel Hedare were beautiful models who were considered too old to model any more and were considered to be ageing out of the industry, which is honestly just bullshit.)

the ideas “azula was a victim of abuse who was manipulated and hurt by ozai” and “azula had a hand in a lot of trauma for zuko due to her awful treatment of him” can and should coexist
