Teaching kids?
Hi budoblr, I’d like to ask if you’d have any tips about teaching kids. Specially those kids who have trouble focusing on training, listening and behaving overall.
I’m assisting in teaching the kids class in our dojo. There is around 20 kids from ages 7 to 12. And of course we have few of those who would rather run around the dojo and do everything else than train. Mainly in the younger end of the bunch.
So what do you do to “keep them in line”? Of course the idea is not to make the training too serious “taste of blood in your mouth” kind of thing. It can and should be fun for them all. But it’s kind of sad that I have to use all of the time to babysit few rascals and can’t help those who need assisting and want to learn.
Of course we are dealing with them and are also thinking of solutions with sensei and other instructors. But I thought that it can’t hurt to ask for some outside opinions too.
So if anyone has some advice with this or some other thing about teaching kids. Everything is greatly appreciated.

Taking a sip from the fire hose.
Just had an amazing weekend at Hanshi Patric Mcarthy’s seminar in Helsinki. It really was great thing to be able to listen and watch someone with that much experience talk and teach the techniques and princibles behind them.
Learned much completely new stuff and got many things that I can improve in the stuff I already knew somehow. Now I just have to train hard so that I remember atleast some of the things because with this much information I’m bound to forget some bits.
And now I really understand what our Kyoshi ment in his facebook post when he said “Are you prepared to sip from the fire hose?”

Feb 14th is also Friend's Day
With Valentine’s day coming up, many people without a “Valentine” to celebrate it with may feel especially lonesome during this time.
In my home country of Finland, Valentine’s Day has been celebrated since the 1980’s, as Ystävänpäivä, which translates to ‘Friend’s Day’. This doesn’t hold any higher ideological purpose other than celebrating romantic love just doesn’t fit in the stereotypical stoic Finnish menthality; and since over 60% of our nation’s entire population live alone, it made a lot more sense to celebrate Friend’s day (yes, in singular because having more than one friend is “pushing it” :P) in its stead.
The traditional celebration includes making Ystävänpäivä cards to give all your friends, some even make or buy small gifts, and wishing a Happy Friend’s Day to your friends, family and sometimes even your co-workers or neighbors.
Thanks to the media, especially during the past decade some of the more traditional Valentine’s Day merchandise and traditions have entered and integrated in our Friend’s Day celebration. Many people consider them less legit and more superficial and poor in taste to fit in the theme of our Friend’s Day, thinking combining the two might lead the other taking over.
I disagree however. I see no problem in combining the two. See, it doesn’t need to be just one or the other. The day is still called Friend’s day, and if your loved one isn’t first and foremost (one of) your best friend(s), something isn’t right. It’s also not about one being more special than the other, friendship vs. romantic love, but they’re both equally special, valid, worth highlighting and to remember.
So, if any of you feel down today, you can remember your friends on February 14th and wish them a happy Friend’s Day. Give them a call, send them a little message, smile, make jokes, have fun, anything that makes you happy.
The Finns already know this, and it feels very silly to have to even say it, but your friends are equally important as your significant other; who is “just” another friend in addition to the others in the end.
Happy Friend’s Day, everyone! I hope this little message made at least someone’s day a little better.

Every artist who sees this post should do the following:
- Watch the video.
- Follow the instructions
- Reblog
I can’t stress you enough about how important these exercises are for your drawing hand. You don’t wanna get CTS of Tendonitis and similar stuff that will prevent you from making art or even hold a pencil.

Suomalaiset tumblraajat
Oletteko miettineet, kuinka paljon meitä on yhteensä? Olen pitkään halunnut tietää kyseisen lukumäärän, ihan mielenkiinnosta (olen aika tiedonhaluinen ihminen, heh).
Selvitetäänkö yhdessä, kuinka paljon meitä on (jos siis sinua/teitäkin kiinnostaisi tietää)? Jokainen suomalainen tumblraaja jos vaikkapa reblogaa tämän, auttaa kyseissä hommassa.
Kiitos!

Martial artists:
Walk in to class uninjured, physically healthy, but tired and stressed out and frustrated with the world. Walk out of class bruised, battered, and sore, but cheerful and at peace and couldn’t feel better.

The reason for the Finnish language’s complexity is to discourage any foreigners from learning it. This way Finns can keep speaking behind their backs.

Easter You just have to decorate at least one egg. Just like when I was a kid. Now I get to eat it. (Yes, it's chocolate beneath the shell)
