enola holmes // a brief review ?
so i watched enola holmes some days ago,

i watched the movie dreadfully with much insistent from friends claiming it's good and coercing me to finish when i didn't the first time i tried watching because the 4th wall breaking was taking me out of it just with the first 2 minutes of the film.
and so i couldn't sleep one night and figured maybe i should finally finish what i started,
and well, i guess it's fine?
quite, frankly i don't have much to say? i wasn't really a fan of how the movie was presented. and although the mystery was good and probably the only reason i kept watching,
the 4th wall breaking was a little too much for me.
there were times, when things have been getting quite serious and then suddenly enola would be facing the camera as if "talking" to me and i just couldn't get into it, and quite honestly it was more than a little too uncomfortable on my part for some reason.
another thing was, the "instalove" or the relationship aspect of the two main characters. honestly, i think it would have been much better if right off the bat enola just went and fell for tewkesbury.
although i get it, enola is supposed to be an independent person, i think she even said so herself that she didn't need men in her life(?), much in influence by her mother's belief(?)
but then not even much much later after insinuating she's fine by her own self, she goes and says "i miss him" and then immediately getting comfortable and chummy with him when the only interaction they've had as of yet was getting targeted by tewkesbury's assailant (and getting attacked later on by drowning for knowing who tewkesbury was and where he might be).
i don't 'bout you but if i ever had such encounter, i'd just stay the fuck away and never wanna meet each other again ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯
and although i liked how enola's mother's disappearance correlated with tewkesbury's disappearance as well, it just felt like his case took over much of the plot and her mother's taking a backseat and wasn't explored as much, which would have been much cooler to see. especially finding out what they were actually planning on doing with all those explosives they have and what the other locations were for.
i just felt like the plot diverted from finding her mother to suddenly focusing on tewkesbury's a lot more, which although also good, was something that i was not hoping to see.
or it could be netflix is setting up a plot for a sequel potentially? 🤔🤔🤔
and the reveal of her mother at end, although very endearing, felt a little lacking? like it wasn't earned at all? like a lot of things happened that seemingly unrelated (but actually related?) and then she appears and it wasn't as satisfying as it should've been?? idk anymore man
but that asidee, i did like the ending sequence of the film. the fight scene (although far too dark in some parts imo) was good and the twist of it being the "friendly grandma" as the mastermind was good and something i did not expect (although it might have also been because i wasn't exactly paying attention towards the middle of it, she did seem pretty sus from the beginning tho 🤔)
i also really liked the olden age, historical europe setting (im biased i get it lol)
also i just think the movie poster alluded to something different than what the movie turned out to be or i don't know just my opinion, don't take my word for it ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯
in conclusion, it was an interesting film
if you like mystery, historical-themed and with a sprinkle of romance in it then give it a go, i guess ?
if i have to, i would rate it 6.8/10, ig
#review#netflix#enola holmes#thoughts#i guess#finally another post for me smh#so yeaa that's it for me#aight i'm out

[ a rant? // ThirTEEN Terrors of Teens’ Poor Life Choices ]
This is part two, click here for part one.
Let’s just continue where we left off shall we.
EPISODE 1: Wanida (2/2)
warning: death
now on to the next scene
bruuh look at her she’s very into it clearly very excited
She's so thrilled they got a hold of the executioner
oh fucking come on you’re literally messing with a Ouija board. you were clearly very excited that you got the executioner to respond to your call, now it’s saying “DIE DIE DIE” and you’re like “this is not funny, stop joking around” what bullshit
Oh Wanida, my girl. Let’s just fucking talk about her death and how it’s the most bullshit out of all of this. It is sooo fucking dumb.
I would say this is the climax right? This is that one big thing we’ve been looking forward to right? That one thing the whole episode is gunning for right? This is when we find out the hows and whys of Wanida’s death albeit already “hinted at” throughout
But the way she died was so dumb I was honestly fine without knowing about it at all.
goodness was she actually planning to get herself killed ? is this supposed to be something like an underlying plot or something ?? because just look at her, what the flying fuck, just who in their right mind do not resist and let someone continue stabbing them ??? wtf
I can’t even. Honestly, she deserved it. Wanida do not have the right to have any sort of vengeance to anyone because she died, when she herself didn’t even fight for her own life. She just literally let the old man stab her and not even fought back whatsoever. She just surrendered her life after being stabbed once in the fucking shoulder wtf who does that ?? apparently she did
She could’ve tried to at least ran out of there and none of this would’ve happened. Actually, if they weren’t so obsessed with this executioner shit and hadn’t messed with the Ouija board, she would’ve been alive right now living her best life, but no, because she was so dumb and didn’t care enough about her life.
Also how tf can you decapitate someone’s head without even any sign of struggle he literally just went for it and very quickly at that with that small of a knife ??? are you serious right now
I guess you could argue that it’s because the old man is possessed but even still, what we see at present is a very small pocket knife which i dun even know why the janitor has. And if they were going for that they could’ve at least hinted at it or something, either way it wasn’t very believable as the neck is pretty boney so how do you even ??
And what shitty friends she got there. They didn’t even helped her or something, they just cowered unto the wall the minute they saw the glass broke, they didn’t try to stop Wanida from approaching the old man even though he was acting very weirdly. They could’ve said “he seems fine let’s just go” or anything at all, especially when they could clearly see how he was eyeing that knife very strangely.
They just quite literally left Wanida there to die. Didn’t even scream when she got stabbed, didn’t even made the slightest of effort to show that they care and want to help. They just bolted out of there the heck.
So after all that bullshit, Wee the MC sorry i didn’t bother to mention her name before bec i dun really care about her that much also it’s Manasawee but that’s too long,
*insert her non-existent acting skills*
so she has to now find Wanida’s head because she asked Wee on her dream for “help” and that apparently giving her head back would break the curse thingy.
So we’re nearing the end here. Wanida points Wee to where her head is supposed to be and Wee takes it out from under the desk and I’m not sure what she’s doing here exactly?
She’s probably praying or something but I can’t really understand what she’s saying since it’s in Thai so yeah.
I guess there’s similarities between these two huh. So the executioner appears behind you, and you clearly know he’s right there and you also don’t do anything huh, Wee? You don't even make the effort to get up? Try to run? When you're clearly able to? You just accept that you're going to die without putting up a fight? okay yeah wateva at this point I could care less what happens to you.
She apparently makes it out alive and didn’t got killed right then and there, and she was able to bury Wanida’s head and offer her prays and all seems well right?

Wee goes home the next morning after her nightly endeavors. Things seeming accomplished but not without it's price to pay.
What I don’t understand is, after all that happened the night before you’d think she would try to get of the glass and makeshift Ouija board she made, but no. She made a conscious decision bring it home.
You'd think she'd be smarter than that especially when she's known as a smart and good student.
Like Wanida’s friends, Wee’s parents literally seem like they don’t actually care contrary to what they’re saying.
Just look at them. Also her mom said they were so worried about her, she even called Wee a bunch of times but you didn't even rush to her the moment she stepped inside. How you acted wasn't much of a display of corncern. You didn't even perk up at the sound of the door opening, you just sat your ass on the freaking sofa. And you were so worried? I don't buy that at all.
Lo and behold, Wee actually took home the executioner instead of ridding her of his presence. Guess how that turned out for her and the fam. her mom actually mentioned how she brought someone with her, how she could even tell and see the executioner there i don't even know
So her mom got possessed when the glass broke, this time not because of a dumb teenager but actually kinda still is since she did brought it home but was insinuated by the executioner himself, killer her dad this time with an actual kitchen knife, that can definitely do more harm than a measly pocket knife, if sharpened and used effectively, and now set on killing her as well.
and that’s all of what happened.
Now I do find that there are some other issues that I have:
I don’t actually know how the executioner was even there in the first place, on where Wanida’s head was when Wee went to retrieve Wanida's head. I guess because that’s where he was last at? When he placed Wanida’s head while possessing the old man? But Wee didn’t even called on him using the Ouija board though? which was why he came out in the first place I guess Wee opened the ghost portal or something that’s why he was there. But then again if he possessed the old man doesn’t that mean he could go to other places using that body? It wouldn’t make sense if he just stayed on one place especially since he’s the villain and he was made to be this person that’s killed a lot of people.
I also don’t quite understand how the possession aspect work. It did say that when the glass gets broken you can get possessed by the spirit that’s in the glass. Which I thought would be you get possessed if you broke the glass. I guess they made it very vague without actually saying the specifics so they can use it as a device to get someone killed, which would’ve been a genius idea if they had done everything well but didn’t so it’s more like an easy fix to have Wanida die.
Also, it’s been 20 years since Wanida died. And I don’t know how corpses work, but I’m pretty sure after all those years there wouldn’t be any hair left on her head and still have some skin stuck on her. And I don’t know why, but her head seemed a little too black? Like it’s been burned? When she wasn’t burned?
Honestly I don’t even know anymore man, at this point I’m just trying to make sense out of everything out of this shit.
One thing out of all the things that happened on this episode that actually creeped me out the most is one of the only two times when I genuinely felt a little scared.
Wanida's actress just seemed scary to me. She just gives off this very eerie vibe.
Wanida here is looking at the now decapitated head of Wee. As she said, giving the head back did end the curse of placed upon Wanida, therefore setting her free. In exchange for this, Wee now has to take Wanida's place under the desk drawer.
The other one being when Wanida's decapitated head was first shown under the desk, which I will not be putting here as it creepy me out a whole lot.
As supposedly part of a horror anthology, Wanida failed to scare even a scaredy cat such as myselc. I found I was hardly ever scared at all, and only got increasingly frustrated as minutes go by. I was left with no enjoyment whatsoever and only left with a bad impression not only for this episode but the entire series as a whole.
And that’s it. I’m done writing for this. I feel so tried. I’ve been working on this for the past four days now and I’m glad this is finally freaking done.
Well I hope you’ve enjoyed reading all this as much as it was pretty frustrating to write it was still pretty fun at one point review? breakdown? whatever you even call this.
well that’s it from me y’all till the next one! hopefully not this long anymore goodness

[ a rant? // ThirTEEN Terrors of Teens’ Poor Life Choices ]
I’ve been meaning to do this one because it is so shit I wanna share my frustrations while watching it. I haven’t been this frustrated in awhile while watching a show last I remember getting soo frustrated was when I watched The Last Empress with mom oh boi, well that and the news these days
So I finished this finally after four days of being so into it literally just in the zone writing this, I really put my best doing this so I hope you enjoy this even for a tiny bit.
will be posting this in two parts as it’s just tooo long [part two here!]
Let’s get into it shall we.
EPISODE 1: Wanida (1/2)
ngl this was prolly her best expression the entire episode actually maybe not
I’m gonna outright say this: Wanida is a weak opening to the whole anthology series.
First of all, this episode is a literal shitshow don’t even bother, you can watch better acting than that but in case you’re curious with what went down, that’s what I’m here for
But if you really want to watch the series, you’re better off watching another episode and watch this one much later or just skip it altogether doesn’t really matter, I promise you you’re not missing out much and honestly, you’re doing yourself a favor by doing so.
I feel like starting with this as your “first” episode could diminish your enjoyment for the series and downright make you even regret watching it and not continue with it just like I did
imo if they wanted to include this episode to the end product which they did, the least they could’ve done is put it on a later episode. I mean, it will still suck just as it did but I feel like they could’ve at least started with a much better episode and this for later, then it wouldn’t matter as much ?
For a pilot episode if you can even call it that, Wanida just flopped as it wasn’t as good as it’s supposed to be. For me it didn’t live up to its “EPISODE 1” title. The first episode should be able to draw your audience in, especially in an anthology where you don’t know what you’re going to get next. The first episode sets the tone for everything else.
And what Wanida did, instead of drawing you in, was push you away. especially the terrible, terrible acting oh my fucking goodness And for someone who’s already so much of a skeptic about dramas (as I mostly do not prefer them ngl) esp from live action animus out there im eternally scarred mah boi and this is horror too which they literally fucked up so bad, to me this just solidifies that I should just continue on with my anime watching instead of this.
But enough of that, we have a lot to go through. For the rest of this post I’m mostly going to point out all the things I found very frustrating to me. It may seem like I’m being nitpicky here and that’s probably the case but I just want to share my sentiments but mostly frustrations about this 50-minute garbage.
So I kinda rewatched episode 1 to get some screenshots and take a couple short videos took me every will in my body to actually do this and a few more attempts bec i just couldn’t stand this and also because I wasn’t exactly paying much attention to the first few minutes so I figured let’s see it.
And I realized, I didn't really have to because nothing really happens and these two best friends are basically just talking about how they like “mysteries” and whatnot and a rundown of how they met what they've been doing together, all these mysteries they talk about and all that jazz.
Basically boring shit. Nothing of apparent significant other than that part where they talk about the executioner that they would find themselves obsessing over for the entire duration of the episode.
About 5 minutes in there’s still nothing happening and then they proceeded to talk about this “urban legend” about their school saying if you find Wanida’s head hidden in the desk drawer you will be cursed and if you can’t find her head in two days you will die. not exact words but you get the point
And then we see this face:
gurl you’re worried about something? you’ve got to act better than that because i can feel nothing
This scene basically insinuates that she’s seen something *cough* *cough* the head *cough* *cough* and she is worried for her life or at least bothered but boi the acting is so bad. She could’ve at least given this more feelings. Act a little bit more uncomfortable. Give me more expressions on that face of yours because this is the last scene you’re gonna be in, you could’ve done so much better my goodness. But nope this was enough they said
Now speaking of the acting, goodness.
that's peak acting right there, seeing a decapitated head under your desk
I would’ve at least expected her to faint after that but apparently not because she’s totally fine right after that. Because we can see after this scene her standing in front of a sink just watching her face as if everything is fine.
bruh look at this face, she doesn’t seem rattled enough about it she just looks like her friend only more emotionless than ever
Also what is this scene? Am I supposed to be spooked by this shattered mirror or something? When the MC is literally isn’t? What is this? It’s not scary by any means, doesn’t have any purpose being in there, and a shitty attempt at making such cheap of a “jumpscare”
(i don't know if this was the next day or a continuation of the mirror scene but whatever)
guuurl you mean to tell me your best friend just died on an accident and her head got decapitated and this is how you cry ???
Where the fuck even is the tears? Is this how you express your grief ? Over your dead so called best friend ?? And honestly we don’t even see her grieving for ample amount of time, this is literally all we get. Her best friend wasn’t even a motivation for her to end this shit. Did she even have any motivation at all? I don’t know. Don’t really care enough to find out anymore.
ah gurl let me remind you you’re looking for a head right? you don’t really have to rummage through other people’s stuff like to look for this head bec I tell you it will stick out like a sore thumb, clearly if it’s there you’ll see it immediately okay? i’m more frustrated here than you are
this whole sequence is just dumb ngl
Also look at the mess you’ve made. You could’ve literally just peeked through each desk and moved on to the next, it so much faster you could’ve save so much time, without putting everything in chaos. It’s a whole ass head, it’s pretty big, very hard to miss okay? no? wateva then
after this she literally sees the head just sticking out from under the desk and im just like facepalm goodness
bruh she doesn’t even look sad at all, just look at her face. she had no tears whatsoever, literally fake-crying in front of everyone
She’s more concerned over this rumor circulating in their school than showing any ounce of sadness over her friend’s death because if there’s any bit of truth to it she knows she’s next if she can’t stop this shit
okay there’s one that I actually honestly like in here. The way they transitioned from her home about to sleep to being at school taking her lessons was actually kinda nice, albeit very abrupt
It did make the pace a little bit faster than it has been for the last few minutes. I did however hated how they transitioned back into her bed insinuating that she was just having a dream also we don't even know how she got that wound on her neck, it wasn't there before just suddenly it's there
it felt like they chickened out right there, ngl felt kinda cheated
I feel like they initially planned to continue with the scene as the present as it doesn’t seem very dreamlike at all and there wasn’t any sort of indication of it being a dream, but forgot that she only have two days until she gets killed and a day’s already past dun really wanna go back and check as at this point I’ve already seen the episode at least four times now. So they had to go back from the previous scene and continue from there instead which was definitely a bummer
They could’ve just went straight to her being thrown back into the past with the ghost Wanida asking for help but no, they had to show her as if she’s actually taking a class normally, the teacher even noticing how very distracted she was thinking back how she got that wound on her neck ‘the night before’ and asking her to solve a math problem.
They could’ve at least made the dream sequence more believably like a dream and it would’ve been fine I think, but no. And that’s why to me it felt like a very incomplete scene. Because we see her go back in time twice and not even more than 10-minute apart. When it could’ve been done more effectively and not quite literally repeat an already done scene.
If anything, we didn’t needed that dream sequence to happen at all, would’ve saved more time they could’ve used for a more climactic, impactful scene but actually no. Or just went straight to her looking for how Ouija board works and whatnot.
this is the transition from when the teacher asked her to solve a problem on the board to realizing she's brought back to the past
This to me is a good transition as well which could've been utilized much better but didn't.
anyway this has been too long ngl and it’s really taking so much of my energy but i shall push through, i will be breaking this down into two parts because the next section will be much longer or at least as long as this one
here’s the next part.
