Wally Dion, born 1976, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Fabric Star Quilts.
Wally (Walter) Dion is a Canadian artist of Saulteaux ancestry living and working in Upstate New York. Working in a number of media including painting, drawing and sculpture.
Wally explains:
"The first fabric star quilt was made as part of a 2022 residency at Wanuskewin Park. It was my way of reflecting upon prairie tall grass and the reintroduction of bison into the Great Plaines. I wanted to make several transparent quilts and superimpose them; one in front another... a quilt for the microbiome, another for the bison, their manure & hooves, another for the summer fires that scorch the ground and a final quilt for the sweetgrass braid.
I was considering how all of these things worked together for thousands of years to create what is known as the 'prairie tall grass ecosystem'. A vast and fertile expanse of land stretching from the foothills of Alberta to the banks of the Mississippi. I wanted to highlight the invisibility of systems when everything is working well, as it should be.
I started with the green quilt because it is the colour of the sweet grass braid that is exchanged in ceremony and relationship building. I considered the nature and tradition of quilting; impoverished craftspeople using tiny scraps of fabric. I considered the act of offering fabric and adherence to tradition. I thought of a thousand tiny prayers and how that might look; invisible acts of respect and adherence to protocols spanning decades. My thoughts travelled across the land, imagining the trees and rocks collecting these prayers like a bush of cloth, or an etched boulders."

Rebelcaptain Week - day one: favorite scenes
“I’m not used to people sticking around when things go bad,” she said, by way of explanation. She didn’t know if Cassian really understood, but he said, “Welcome home,” and she knew she was.
He didn’t want to disturb the silence as they rested against each other, hurting and relaxed, listening to the hum of machinery and the distant billowing of fires. He stowed thoughts of old missions and thoughts of the future away; decided to focus on what he could see and hear and smell for the last moments of his life on Scarif.

He said that we should shorten my name toward a Japanese equivalent or a couple of characters that could (in turn) stand alone, and approximate the sound of my name. "Great," I said, eager for a new Japanese identity. He didn't respond, at first. The pause lengthened. He took off his heavy glasses and rubbed his eyes and I noticed that the glint from the hallway's bulb had coloured his eyes blue. He returned the glasses to his face, tapped the bridge, and the frames slid back to cover a red indentation on his nose. The blue sheen was gone. "Your name," he said, "can mean anything from cage to opportunity. Let me think about it for a while."

The Stunning Astronomical Beadwork of Native Artist Margaret Nazon
Margaret Nazon has spent the past decade building intricate beadwork depictions of outer space. The colorful artworks balance representational and stylized aesthetics set on black fabric backgrounds to depict galaxies, planets, nebulae, and other astronomical phenomena.
Initially inspired by Hubble space telescope images, Nazon’s celestial renderings are part of a lifelong interest in beading. In an interview with Glenbow, the artist shared that she began beading at age 10, but found the density of traditional beadwork to be tedious.
The abstract nature of celestial images allows Nazon to be more interpretive and incorporate different materials like caribou bones and willow seeds that have location-specific or cultural significance. Nazon is Tsiigehtchic, part of the Gwich’in community in what is now the Northwest Territories of Canada. The artist explained that because she is retired, she is able to dedicate significant time to beading, and often rises at 4:30am to begin working. Nazon plans to continue experimenting, including merging her abstract beadwork with her seamstress skills to create artfully embellished apparel.
Nazon’s artwork was most recently exhibited at Glenbow in a group show, Cosmos, and A Beaded Universe at Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. You can read more about her in the Glenbow interview, and explore Nazon’s portfolio on her website.

I took out my Endless Waltz DVD just so I could re-watch the OVA ending and I remembered just how much I love this ending. I like both of them, actually, especially taken together. For instance, the movie ending shows us Duo buying a part and hanging out with Hilde, but the OVA ending tells us that they’re working at the scrap yard together. Taken together, the two endings give us a more complete picture of what their lives are like post-series.
As for the OVA ending, I also love Trowa reuniting with Catherine, and Quatre having a good time with the Maganac. And I love love love Heero still being in Relena’s orbit and watching over her since it suggests they aren’t living as far from each other as the movie ending implies.
