I sold this on LM to someone who missed out on the reservation because they were asleep, and I swear my heart feels so full knowing that I helped someone achieve a dream.

In recent news: I'm clearing out my closet.

I'm so mad at myself for falling prey to the snares of consumerism.

I know better.

I don't need all of the stuff I've bought.

But here I am, with a closet full of clothes that I couldn't afford.

That's not very goth of me tbh.

The consumerism of lolita fashion

I've kind of been disenchanted with the consumerist side of lolita fashion, which let's face it, is a huge part of it. I think it's just a byproduct of a subculture that's based around the clothes and not something like music, political ideology, etc. It's all about the aesthetic, and the easiest way to keep up with the aesthetic is to constantly be buying things.

I have around 25 dresses, including things on pre-order, and I promised my boyfriend I'd only keep 15 dresses. I don't think I'll be getting rid of the ones I have, but I've recognized recently how unhealthy it is to be constantly buying new releases, or even used dresses that I just don't need. I've got a large enough wardrobe, between dresses, blouses, accessories, etc, that I don't need to be buying anything new. So for the forseeable future I'm just going to work with what I have.

Some of it doesn't fit right now because of my binge eating, so once I'm recovered from that and back to my body's normal resting weight then those dresses will be like "new" because I'll get to wear them again. Who knows when that will be, though.

I'd love to practice more sustainability in my lolita wardrobe. Focus on repairing things, altering things that I'll never fit, making my own accessories and maybe skirts, being more creative and resourceful with it.

I guess tl;dr I'm sick of consumerism, and the shopping addiction that lolita has given me over the last 9 years. I'm going to be healing that part of me.
