I work in a fully functional floral department in a grocery store and I sometimes get some creative freedom, so I’ll share those things here.

Flowers that grow more beautiful the more you sacrifice to them. The determination of an offering’s value is how much the person sacrificing it cares about it. Give them flies and rodents and they will be a lovely bouquet. Give them your firstborn baby and they will be so beautiful that you will become famous and admired simply because you grew them. Give them all of your cherished people, and you can turn people into devoted lovers and servants by giving them a single blossom.

This is an arrangement I made for a customer’s mother. He asked for me to use a variety of pinks, and I asked if it was alright for me to use a bit of white, and he agreed. I used roses, alstroemeria, and baby’s breath. It was a $40 arrangement and I was told the customer liked it 😅

This is an arrangement I made for my boss’s birthday, it’s made mostly of things we were trying to avoid having to toss out 😉
It has yellow roses, alstroemeria in the shade pumori, and white poms. She loved it!

Just thought I’d share my favorite seasonal plant, the princettia poinsettia. This is a breed of poinsettia with smaller sized flowers so they are less fragile than regular varieties of poinsettias. We carry them in pink and white. Here is a photo of one I had a year ago after owning it for a year:

Fucking huge! I had repotted the 6-in poinsettia into a 12-in pot and set it outdoors over the summer and it became massive! Fry for scale :)

Here are two bouquets I made for a customer who requested to have alstroemeria, gerbera daisies, a single rose, carnations, and limonium. She didn’t specify colors, so this is how I went! The strawflower was my artistic choice ;)

This is a Boutonnière I made for a wedding the other day. My directions were to make it simple with some greens, and the bride pointed out the orange pom in the picture. I used a pom, red hypericum, a piece of solidago, and a bit of eucalyptus. I was pleased with the results!

This is an arrangement I made for $50 in about 20 minutes. The customer’s directions were to make it orange and they liked it a lot! I used two different colors of spray roses, tinted solidago/goldenrod, alstroemeria in the shade “Party”, dark red hypericum, orange santini poms, and white statice

Here are this week’s floral designs. I haven’t been able to get into a creative headspace as much since my manager brought in an experienced floral designer to represent the floral department during a corporate family visit.
It threw me off to realize that my manager only sees me as a serviceable designer, not one she actually considers skilled. But, all things considered, I’m pretty much self-taught, whereas the professional has been trained and has been doing design for 20 years.
Anyways, these arrangements included roses, gypsophila, stock, and ruscus. The second one also has carnations.

Made more sister arrangements today!

This is the smaller of the two, which I priced at $40

Here is the big sister, this one was priced at $60
Both utilized roses, alstroemeria, and santini poms. The smaller has cocculus greens, and the larger uses baby blue/spiral eucalyptus and Israeli ruscus.
For the grand finale, here they are together

My first good hibiscus of the season bloomed yesterday. I’ve had these plants since last summer and the first couple blooms earlier this summer had aphids on them. It’s beyond me how they got them since they were indoors all winter and none of the other plants had anything like that on them. Anyways, I re-potted them, fertilized them, sprayed them for bugs, and put them outside a couple weeks ago to give them more light. I did have one flower open the other day but it had a rotted part on it, so this is the first good one this year 🎉🎉🎉

These are the baby mums the store will be selling in a month or two.

These are baby poinsettias for the holiday season

Some other teeny tiny seedlings

Trial outdoor flowers that may or may not be sold next spring and summer

And here are some neat plants available in the garden center
