Holy shit, I am exhausted. But that "I saw Queens of the Stone Age on back-to-back nights in Boston and have barely slept" kind of exhaustion. So zero complaints on my end.
Feel free to read way more about that — and their insane Alive in the Catacombs set — over here. No need to clog up your lives with 1,000 words of gibberish otherwise.

I don't think I ever got around to posting the listening calendar the past couple of months. Well, here it is, in all it's monotony.
It's been almost 15 years but I'm sure I'll get bored with this at some point.

Mad Season - Above
Did I need a 30th anniversary edition of an album I already own in multiple other ways? Probably not. But goddamn if I'm not enjoying myself right now.
Here's to one of the greatest albums ever made and my favorite guitar album of all time.

Cheap Trick - "Gimme Back My Bullets"
I don't know how or why Cheap Trick got invited to a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute show 10 years ago, or why this cover goes so goddamn hard, but here we are.
Also: how or why they decided to work Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" into the middle is another mystery, but I don't care. It all works. Man.

Filter - "Welcome to the Fold"
I heard this song in the car this morning for the first time since ... 1999, maybe? 2000? When CDs were $15 and I was making $5 an hour at the grocery store, album-buying decisions were a big deal, so I never got this one. But I remember I always wanted it, and I knew someone that had it, so I occasionally heard it. But I always thought this song killed, man. Good stuff, welcome back to my brain.

I've had a lot of fun watching all the videos from Metallica's show at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium the other day. But this might be my favorite.
This is an entire group of people just looking for a reason to lose their shit, and here they are drowning out fucking Metallica. Awesome.

Hi folks, it's been awhile. Work has been interesting, to say the least, and there's plenty more going on in the real world that it's easy to be distracted. I'm sure you understand.
However, I managed to get away for a few days and went to Atlanta (where I hadn't been in a few years!), saw some friends and saw Pearl Jam — again — play two shows. Both were great, the second being one of the best I've ever seen them play.
There's more of that here if you like. Otherwise, enjoy some random sights from around the city. And sorry if communication has been lax lately.

This was my view after work today in the backyard. It was nice.
Not pictured: the rest of the yard and the house as a disaster zone while some work finishes up.

The Who - "Eminence Front"
Maybe it's the state of the world or the fact that I refuse to stop listening to the Who, ever. But this song has felt extra relevant lately.

A little zen for your Saturday.
I keep watching this video — sights and sounds from the Winnipeg Arena, 1987 — in bits and pieces, and it's just a cool reminder of how quiet the NHL used to be. In that, the only sounds came from the skates and the fans and an occasional few notes from the organ. There are hardly any ads on the ice, there's no music, there are no dynamic house lights, there are no games on the scoreboard between plays. It's just hockey, and a bunch of people who bought a ticket (but didn't feel the need to spend hundreds of dollars on jerseys and merchandise) watching the Jets play whoever was in town.
I have a vague memory of this period — I got to one Bruins game at the old Boston Garden when I was 11 — but even by then, the boards were covered in ads and I think there was more music. The house lights were all the way up the entire time, though.
Anyway, good stuff here. Watch it if you want to mellow out for a few minutes before going about your day.

Grateful Dead - "Scarlet Begonias > Touch of Grey > Fire on the Mountain"
I'd been off of the Dead for a little while (there was far too much Bob Weir in my life at one point, sorry), but this one brought me back. I had this show from Berkley's Greek Theatre on June 13, 1984, in my CD stash back in the day, and I always remembered this weird combination really worked.
Anyway, there are far worse ways to spend 30 minutes of your time. From their upcoming $600 box set, enjoy.
