I really find that age difference between Kataang children is super important in this argument. Especially if you take notice that kids that aang was supposedly treating badly are first two out of three. What exactly they imagine Katara's reaction? "Oh honey, I see how much you neglect and treat awfully and manipulate my first born, but don't worry honey, wanna make another one? Oh no, our daughter is not good enough for you too? lets try once again. I know how terrible you treat first two but I gonna support you in this and" Like, do they really imagine Katare seeing how aang emotionaly and phisically abuse their kids and support it? (god knows what these people imagine what aang is. They literally compare him to Ozai which was most likely beating and emotionally abuse his son and manipulate his daughter):

So, they imagine Katara, who never gonna tolerate a bad tretment towards anyone let alone herself and her family

seeing all this and continue having children with him? Not protecting them, not showing everyone a true face of the abuser, not fighting, but just silently hiding that and staying married to him till the rest of her days? They Hate Katara.

In fact when comparing Aang's parenting to Ozai's and calling him a terrible father they also insist that Katara was absolutely ok with how "terribly" aang was treating her kids. And she must be absolutely supporting of this if she had 3 kids with him and age difference between 1st and 3rd child is almost 10 years. We know Katara well enough to understand she is not someone who gonna tolerate something she doesn't agree with. If Aang was a bad father and treating their kids awfully Katara would break up with him on the day one. She wouldn't be having kids with him again and again if it was the case.

So they have a choice: either they destroy Katara's character making her a terrible mother who gonna tolerate bad treatment towards her kids, or they have to admit that Aang was a good loving dad and that is what Katara liked in him besides everything else. Either one or another.

So in attempts to criticise Aang they just once again humiliate and ruin Katara. Not that was something new on their part tho.

I often think about what would be like Kya's relationship with her grown up children, and what it would be with her grandchildren (I think Bumi would be her favorite). And it breaks my heart.

I want Mai to be happy and grow as a person. I want her to not be at 30 what she was like at 15. I want more stories told with her. I want more Mai content but everytime I wish for it, this is what it feels like:

Getting more Mai content has a high chance of defeating the purpose of wanting more Mai content 😭

More chances of her being mischaracterised until she's no longer recognisable. And the whole thing passed off as "character development" (it ain't. and you can do it while keeping her unconventional personality intact and not turn her into Jane #3!)

I especially hate when mischaracterisation aka turning her into a soap opera heroine (the way Yang did) gets called "maturing". No, it isn't. Becoming more palatable and maturing are two different things.

At least Ashes of the Academy was better than Yang's stuff.

Mai was such a novel experience because female characters are rarely allowed to be like that and now they're shaving down those very things about her.

But damn it, I want more Mai content! Mai from ATLA, not some normie that wears her skin 😭

Just made myself so so sad thinking about Aang's marble trick because from a physics perspective, keeping dense spherical objects afloat on an airstream is not trivial, and he's doing it in a tiny little space without moving his hands. Bending is usually very gestural. So. Everyone in the era of the show is, at best, impressed THAT it is airbending. But Aang's an incredibly young master airbender. He wouldn't be acting like this was the bestest trick ever if it didn't take at least some skill; he's a goofy kid but he's also a prodigy. I bet other airbenders were absolutely blown away (pun fully intended) at the level of precision and force and minimalism of movement on display and now there's no one who understands at all why he expects accolades.
