When concussions are good
Bakugou Katsuki x Reader - hurt/comfort - accidental confession - mutual pining kinda -interrupted moment - menace aizawa - cussing
Training had always been intense between you and Bakugou. It never helped that you didn't exactly see eye to eye. The two of you hotheads were locked in a never-ending game of one-upmanship. The class called you “frenemies”. You called it “dealing with a hot blonde grenade”.
Despite this no one expected the match to go this far.
The match started normally but quickly escalated and went too far. It went silent as everyone watched the two of you fiercely fighting. No one expected you to go flying from one of his blasts—headfirst into a wall. The hollow but painful thud of the back of your head breaking your impact was sickening. And was the only noise you made. No cry of pain or tears, just you quietly sliding limply down the wall.
Everything in the gym paused.
Bakugou sprinted to your side before the dust even cleared, panic slicing through his usual scowl.
“Oi! Hey—! Y/N!”
But you were out cold.
You woke up to the antiseptic smell of Recovery Girl’s office, head pounding and ribs wrapped. The light above you is soft. Your mouth is dry. You’re still in your training clothes although all your bags are next to the bed you were in. Gazing out the window it looked like it was late in the afternoon.
And—
Bakugou is sitting beside your bed.
Slouched in the chair, elbows on knees, hair messy, leg bouncing like he’s been there for hours.
You croak, “…Bakugo?”
His head snaps toward you. “You’re awake. Fuck.”
“…What happened?”
He exhales like he’s been holding it the entire time.
“You were out. Hit your damn head.” He runs a hand through his hair. “Thought you—shit, I thought you weren’t gonna wake up.”
There’s something raw in his voice. Something unfamiliar. It’s not anger. It’s fear. And then he blurts it out:
“I thought you were dead, I was worried. And seeing you like that—seeing you hurt—I didn’t know what the hell to do. I just didn't want to leave you here alone”
He glanced at you and you could swear that you could see his tough exterior crack and show a side of something soft and sensitive.
You blink at him. Slowly saying “…Did you just confess to me in Recovery Girl’s office?”
He stiffens. “Don’t make it weird.”
You grin. “It’s already weird. But… I like you too, dumbass.”
His expression falters—like he wasn’t expecting that. Like his brain blue-screened.
“You… wait, what?”
“I like you, Bakugou. I’ve liked you for a while,” you admit, voice soft. “Guess it just took a concussion to get us here.”
There’s a pause. Something warm flickers between you. He reaches toward your hand—awkward, unsure. But a genuine happy smile crept onto his face. You intertwined your fingers with his. Happy that for once you were touching not in a fighting match.
“Glad to see you’re both alive. And disgustingly sentimental.”
You both freeze slowly turning towards the door.
Standing in the doorway is Aizawa. Tired expression, coffee in hand which he sips. “Nice confession, by the way. Bakugo, I suggest you work on your timing.”
Then he walks off like he didn’t just hear everything. You bury your face in your hand. Bakugou looks like he wants to detonate the bed.
“…I’m never training with you again,” you mumble.
He grumbles, “Shut up. You’re mine now.”
“Yeah, yeah take me on a date and we will see.” You chuckled as you slowly got up from the bed.

random dating headcanons for 1-A
Here's a batch of romantic headcanons for the love lives of some of Class 1-A. These are full of crackship energy and i MAY expand on this in the future
🥦 Izuku Midoriya (Deku) Has absolutely and will continue to overanalyze every single interaction with his crush. Like he has a full-on battle strategy in his notebook titled: “How to Not Be a Weirdo in Love (WIP).”
Has 100% talked about them to Allmight and begs for help on how to date and romance his crush. (Allmight is kind of sick of hearing about it)
Tries to give love advice to others using hero metaphors like, “Sometimes you just have to… go Plus Ultra with your feelings!!!”
Wrote a love confession as a PowerPoint presentation so you could read his feeling when he eventually got so flustered he could not speak.
🔥 Katsuki Bakugou Denies being in love while doing obviously romantic things like walking his crush home, cooking their favorite food, and threatening to blow up anyone who flirts with them.
“THIS ISN’T A DATE. SHUT UP AND EAT YOUR DANGO.”
When he gets flustered, he just starts yelling random curse words at the air while avoiding eye contact.
Once tried to say “I like you” and it came out as “You don’t suck. That bad. I guess.”
🔥 Shoto Todoroki Thinks "romantic gestures" means offering half of his soba.
Texts back entirely in lowercase with no punctuation or emojis. Somehow still charming.
Gave his crush a rock because it was "balanced and visually pleasing" and expected them to understand the symbolism.
Once complimented someone by saying, “Your aura is… room temperature. I like it.”
💖 Ochaco Uraraka Tries to be cool and flirty but floats uncontrollably whenever her crush says something sweet.
Has practiced kissing on a pillow but denies it with her whole soul.
Makes finger guns when nervous, followed by nervous giggles. Somehow it works.
Has accidentally levitated her date out of excitement. Had to apologize mid-air. She never recovered.
⚡ Denki Kaminari Flirts like a golden retriever with WiFi issues. "Hey babe—you shock my heart like… like… batteries?? Wait no come back!!"
Once tried to serenade his crush and electrocuted his own guitar and fried his brain.
Gives terrible love advice but thinks he’s the class Casanova. #wRizz
Definitely calls his crush “babe” after one date and makes it his entire personality.
🔥 Eijiro Kirishima Gets so flustered that he ends up calling his crush “bro” for the first three months of dating.
Writes them heartfelt love notes… but they're written like inspiring gym posters. “YOU ARE STRONG AND BEAUTIFUL AND CRIMSON RIOT WOULD BE PROUD.”
Keeps trying to flex (literally) on dates but knocks stuff over constantly.
Made a couple’s handshake and insists on doing it every time they say goodbye.
🐸 Tsuyu Asui Surprisingly smooth. She just says what she feels and it throws people off.
“I think you’re cute and you make me feel warm inside. Want to kiss?”
Her idea of a romantic date is sitting quietly and doing homework together. Ideal girlfriend energy.
Will call her s/o “ribbit” as a pet name and refuses to explain it.
🔊 Mina Ashido Queen of chaotic romance. Has planned the wedding after the first text. (delulu)
Gave a whole TED Talk to convince her crush that they’re perfect for her—with glittery slides.
Teases her s/o constantly, but turns into a puddle when they flirt back.
Has written fanfiction about them. Has read it out loud. With voice acting.
🤖 Iida Tenya Tried to schedule “relationship meetings” to discuss progress and emotions every Friday at 4 PM.
Uses formal honorifics even after dating for 6 months: “Beloved—may I please hold your hand now?”
Almost got detention for yelling “AFFECTIONATE BEHAVIOR IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE HALLWAYS!!”… at himself, when caught holding hands.
Makes PowerPoint charts of anniversary gift ideas. Color-coded by emotional weight.
🌌 Tokoyami Fumikage Writes love letters like a Victorian poet. “My heart bleeds for thee, dove of darkness.”
Writes brooding poetry and recites it under a full moon. His crush pretends not to laugh. They always laugh.
Dark Shadow is a third wheel who ships it harder than anyone and does so aggressively and loudly.
Once dramatically threw rose petals in the hallway but tripped and fell into a mop bucket and was brooding for a week.

Vibrant Grayscale
Tokoyami x reader !college!
You went to your usual coffee place when your attention was caught by a brooding man in the corner and maybe he also caught your heart.
(i might write more chapters for this :3)
It all started with your usual trip for a coffee. You were wrapped in layers of clothes, a beanie pulled low over your ears. The air was crisp, the leaves were performing their annual color shift into a beautiful array of warm tones.
You first notice him at that coffee shop you had begun to frequent because it charged less than Starbucks. You liked it because of the clatter of mugs, the hiss of steamed milk, and the way the employees actually seemed happy to be there whether it was early in the morning or right before close.
The bell above the café door jingles as you enter, and the scent hits you first—coffee beans, cinnamon, the promise of cozy. He’s all clad in black and silver jewelry. Long dark coat, combat boots, a black turtleneck, rings on his fingers, and a necklace with a pendant. He’s curled in the corner like a ghost brooding in a Victorian home, silent yet haunting. While you stand in line to order you sneak glances at him every now and again. When it's your turn to order you drag your attention to the barista standing behind the counter.
You order your drink and delicious pastry and a cake pop because joy is a right, not a privilege. You sit three tables away, sipping on your drink all the while peacefully pondering what else to do with your day besides that assignment for class. Without realizing you had zoned out staring at him. When he looks up, his eyes are deep pools of Victorian red that look like silk. You tear your eyes away from his and mentally note to make sure to not stare down a random hot emo guy by accident again.
The second time you see him, it’s raining, and he’s leaning under the coffee store awning looking like he’s auditioning for a sad indie film or posing for a rock band's album cover. He slips inside the shop before you’ve even reached the awning. You shake your umbrella off lightly before closing it and going inside.
You order your usual drink once more and chit-chat with the barista. As you do you catch glances of the dark man scribbling away in a notebook. When your drink is ready you pick up your cup and begin to search for a table. You glance at him once more. He’s still scribbling in a notebook, the corners of the page wrinkled like they've been cried into. You begin to dreamily think of whatever your imagination could come up with about his furious not taking. You look around some more for a seat noting how packed the coffee shop was today. Suddenly your bag hits a table while you look around. It’s him.
“Oh! Sorry—didn’t mean to interrupt!” You say hurriedly due to your embarrassment.
He looks up at you staring silently. His eyes are the kind of tragically beautiful sad that poets have tried to capture in writing for decades. “It's fine,” he says, his voice low. “Interruption is inevitable.” You blink. Then grin. “Is that your way of inviting me to sit?” He blinks back, startled like a raven caught mid-brood but he doesn’t say no or give any indication of resistance.
So you take that as a yes. You set your bag down and take the seat that’s opposite of him. You sip your drink and smile because there’s something so endearing about his over-the-top melancholy, like a character from a novel.
"Are you always this perfectly tragic," you ask brightly, “or is it just Mondays?” You giggle as you ask.
He looks up, eyes narrowing. Judging, probably. But curious nonetheless.
"And are you always this cheerful?” he replied as if your cheer was a flaw.
You grin. “Absolutely. It's my coping mechanism.”
Something flickers in his expression — a small crack in the marble mask of his gloom. The ghost of a smirk, maybe. It feels like it’s a victory. Like a crack, you could use it to break him open and get to truly know him.
Over the next who knows how long, you sip your drink and unravel him, thread by jet black thread. His name is Tokoyami. He writes poetry no one sees, listens to emo music, and goes to the same college as you. He claims his soul is stitched together with shadows and silence.
You make him laugh. Real laughs. The kind that slips out when he’s caught off guard and temporarily drops his Prince of the Dark vibe. You call him “birdy” just to see him scowl and get flustered at the same time. He calls you “my worst distraction.”
“You’re very dramatic,” you say brightly after hearing another one of his mini rants about humanity and darkness, you rest your chin in your palm. “It’s kind of adorable.”
“I am doomed,” he says, gazing at the rain outside.
You nod solemnly. “Tragic. Luckily for you, I come with cheer and glitter lip balm.”
Something twitches at the edge of his mouth. Not quite a smile. More like a crack in the façade.
“You’re very… inconvenient, you know.”
You raise an eyebrow. “Oh? How so?”
He shrugs, scribbles something in that notebook, then slides it across the table. On the page is a messy little poem where you catch words that are much nicer than his indifferent façade. Your laugh is compared to sunlight through leaves, your smile is described as if it’s the only thing tethering him to the Earth.
“I was perfectly content being miserable,” he mutters noticing yours staring at his poem.
You smile wide. “Glad I ruined it.”
And in that moment, he smiles too. Really smiles.
Maybe being ruined by you was the best thing that ever happened to him. Before the two of you knew it it had changed from mid-morning light storms to late in the afternoon light drizzles with the sun setting over the horizon barely seeable through the building of the city. The two of you finally shuffle out of the coffee shop and enjoy the sly little joke he made that the both of you were snickering at.
You don’t fall in love that day, not really. But when he offers to walk you home, and you share an umbrella that smells faintly of cinnamon and damp leaves, and your hands brush and don’t pull away? It feels like the start of something warm. And for a moment, the world isn’t grayscale or chaotic color. It’s just you and Tokoyami, tangled in the moment.

Maybe we’ll wait in a bar, he’ll have a funky quirk
Tumblr media
art by @faithmerefate on tiktok
(sorry for any errors or weirdness this is my first fanfic and I hope its good : D)
After the U.A. students move into the dorms Tokoyami craves independence from them and picks up a new waiter job and perhaps also ends up picking up a new fine shyt coworker.
After the students of U.A moved into the dorms there were many changes. It was clear that this change was needed due to the recent acts of the school and its students. Some people felt as though they could be more independent and some abused this independence. Like when Denki caused a campus wide power-outage due to trying to “be a man” and fix an electrical socket.
But with this independence came the realization of certain things. While Tokoyami loved his class and him being able to move into a bigger room and truly deck out his private lair of darkness. But he did not enjoy the loudness of his classmates who seemed to have no idea of how loud they were even if they were being nice. One day on a weekend where the morning was irritatingly loud, Tokoyami saw an ad in the newspaper. The ad was for a waiter position in a more upscale restaurant. It was only a fifteen minute walk from the entrance of U.A. Tokoyami pondered about what he wanted to do before thinking ‘Honestly that seems far more beneficial to my own inner health than this place’. So he applied and was accepted into the role of a waiter without an interview. On the first day of the job he learned that because he is a student from not only the famous U.A but the infamous class 1.A was good for the restaurant's publicity that he now worked at.
Tokoyamis first week was tricky but more peaceful than what his week would have been if he didn’t have the job and he was more than glad to have the extra money. He enjoyed the escape he got from his classmates even if he did truly care for him. But after that first week things began to go downhill. Turns out that the publicity of him working there worked a bit too well and ended up with much more harassment than he was comfortable with. A sudden surplus of customers who came to watch him work or demand knowledge out of him. Unfortunately for him his usual stoic personality did not diminish their efforts, rather it seemed to spur them on.
It was until the manager moved you to share a section with him in the restaurant. You'd been working there for only a couple months more than tokyami but you had been a big help with costomors and your strong morals always ensured that none of your coworkers were mistreated. So teaming you and tokoyami seemed like a wise decision to the manager of the restaurant. You didn’t mind as you enjoyed his calm presence and the calm demeanor that accompanied him. So you and him worked in the section together. At first it was a bit awkward but he quickly got over that as he had no reason to not want more help and to be relieved from the harassment that he has to endure from his classmates and the customers. But you helped with that whether it was putting a customer in their place with tactful and purposely hurtful insults or if it was being as passive aggressive as possible. Whatever it was you made sure that your new hire coworker was comfortable. As the first few days of working in close proximity blended into months the two of you grew more comfortable and more confident with each other. At one point he even gave you his number accompanied by a long note detailing how he was ‘ever grateful for the unrelenting effort to ensure an equilibrium of treatment between myself and those I have a duty to serve’. Despite how oh so eloquent he was it was obvious he was still an anxious individual. You were in no rush to get to know him so he began to open up to you bit by bti. The more you two texted the more you felt like you could trust him and you two quickly became friends. By the time October crept up you two were used to each other and working together that you helped each other clean no matter what.
The air in the restaurant was chilly and the uniforms for the restaurant were no real help. Today was a slow day and you and tokoyami were just cleaning up and finishing up the arbitrary work you had as you waited for more customers.
“I feel it pertinent for you to have the knowledge that my birthday is soon” Tokoyami muttered as he wiped down the table that you had just taken dishes from. He trusted that you heard him so he didn’t check to see if you did.
“I know” you replied smiling to yourself because you had already planned a gift to get him “but continue with whatever you are getting at.”
You could see a small smile tug at his mouth from the corner of your eye. You knew he had something planned or else he wouldn’t have mentioned it because he already told you how he hated it when people made a fuss about his birthday. Or made a fuss in general.
“Well I should have had known that you would remember due to your profound insight. I digress though and I would like to ask if you would want to accompany me to my dorm to help me celebrate my birthday, tonight." He talked confidently but in the way that you do when you extensively prepare for something.
“Oh? So now you're asking to take me home tonight. Quite bold.” You said barely containing a giggle as you know that’s not what he meant but you couldn’t deny the opportunity to pick on him just a bit.
Tokoyami somehow visibly flushed despite not having any visible cheeks. “NO. Crap that’s not- um I mean you have seemed to misunderstand what I had originally intended for you to understand. I meant I would enjoy your company outside of our workplace.”
“Of course I would love to hangout with you after work. I mean we’ve hung out before. I guess it's just different because it's your dorm.”
You smiled at him in earnest. You had managed to become so close to someone who secluded themselves so much it made you happy. He made you happy. Tokoyami smiled at you too. His smile made his appreciation clear with a heartwarming and comforting feel making you feel melty despite the cold of the autumn air. The sound of jingling keys interrupted the moment.
“Sorry to interrupt the teenage AWKWARD romance happening but yall can go. We have more than enough people to close up and you two deserve a little fun.” She ended her sentence with a wink as if she knew something you two didn’t. Although you didn’t mind the entandra she slipped in there Tokoyami was internally freaking out because he didn’t want to scare you away. But before his panic could internalize too much you grabbed him and dragged him out of the restaurant grabbing your and his bag from the employee area on the way out.
The two of you stepped outside and into the crisp evening air. The breeze shook the trees and the warm multihued leaves that fluttered downward. The weather began to cool and the slight almost unapparent summer air that still stubbornly hung around began to disappear. You glanced at tokoyami from the side of your eye and saw him solemnly taking in the scene as you were. In this light of the sun quietly setting over the horizon you could truly take in his beauty you had originally only seen indoors or on the occasional walk from the restaurant late at night. Before you knew it the two of you were staring at each other, embracing the other's quiet captivation with the other's appearance.
“Perhaps we should begin our journey before it gets too late into the evening” Muttered tokoyami as he began to look away flustered. You smiled in response knowing he was right but you also enjoyed this moment so dearly you didn't want to leave it.
“Yeah. I guess you’re right. Please lead the way good sir” You said finally tearing your eyes away from him.
And with that he silently nodded his head and motioned for you to follow him. From the restaurant the two of you walked quietly but contently. There was peace within this silence, a peace that you seemed you only truly realized with him. Only with him. You couldn't place your finger on it but you just felt better with him. As if that tear on your heart that was left from the harm that others caused was better. Not gone, it'll never leave you no matter how hard you try. Never. But it felt better no longer a gaping hole made but a cruel and uncaring persons verbal shotgun that bled incessantly but it instead felt like a scrape on the knee. You don’t know why you feel like this but you hope it will never leave. You hope it will outlast the cold winters and the hot summers and whatever distance is created. You cared more for Tokoyami than almost anyone else in your life. You were so grateful that he was your friend. You began to smile and glanced at Tokoyami. He was already looking with an unreadable but undoubtedly happy expression.
Although perhaps you were both staring too hard as you ended up getting tripped up over your own feet. You caught yourself from falling although just barely and to deflect from your slip up you instead talked. “So how much longer till we get there?”
“Mhm” was all you got back at first before he took out his phone and looked at something before answering “we will be arriving at U.A in approximately 10 minutes and my dorm is a 7 minute walk from there from my experience.”
“Nice” was all you said back, perhaps you were still too wrapped up in your head or maybe you don't feel like you have to entertain Tokoyami for the two of you to enjoy eachothers company.
He continued to fiddle with his phone before taking something out of his pocket. It was earbuds and he put one in and after held the other one towards you expecting to take it. You took it and put it in your ear and listened along with him. The song Exit Music (For a Film) by Radiohead starts playing. Although the song was gloomy it was comforting in its sorrow much like the man you share a pair of earbuds with. After a moment of listening you were ecstatic that his music taste matched his appearance, it was amazing how dark and alternative he is.
The walk went quicker than you thought it would as the two of you reached the gates of the famed U.A. high in what felt like two seconds. A strange man was standing in the entrance and you assumed that it must be a security guard but before you could ask Tokoyami if you should do anything the man loudly barked “Is that the one you were talking about earlier? The appearance but we need to ensure it is who it looks like.”
“Yes sir, they are indeed who I was discussing with the facility and I'm assured that they can provide whatever information you need.”
The dog-like man turned towards you but before he could say anything you had fished out your school I.D and you hoped that that would be enough and that you could not get fussed at by a man that looks like a werewolf. You presented your I.D to the man and we made a show of inspecting it and staring at it before finally relentling and saying “Ok it all checks out, feel free to go ahead.”
You smiled and giddily walked into the U.A campus before a realization struck you and you asked “You said you talked with teachers about this but you just asked me today what's up with that.”
“You may call it wistful thinking and I inquired about it before presenting the question to you because I felt it pertinent for things to be perfect for you.”
You felt yourself blush at those words and suddenly your mind went blank which was weird since you usually always understood him and had a quick response but now you were stumped and your mouth talked before your brain could.
“S-So you made sure everything is all fancy even though it’s your birthday? That’s so- actually really sweet”
As you spoke your voice started to trail off and you could feel Tokoyami’s gaze on you. Your blush began to deepen but before either in you could take any action a strange shadow appeared.
“HEY THE BEST BIRD IS HERE”
Dark shadow was suddenly in your face and shouting which caused you to stumble once more.
“Oh hello dark shadow. It’s nice to meet you. Tokoyami talks about you a lot.”
Dark shadow smiled smugly before squawking “Of course he does i’m the best”
“On the contrary I mostly speak of your foolish behavior”
The dark beast pretended to be mortally wounded by his words and shrank while falling dramatically. Before appearing behind Tokoyami silently and hovering over the shoulder on the opposite side of you. You giggled a bit as it was rare to see Tokoyami deal with something so silly, besides your occasional shenanigans.
Dark shadow was staring at you before finally saying “she is exactly how you described yami.”
You were a little surprised by the fact that Tokoyami talked about you but you were also kinda touched. To know that someone who talks so little talks about you is something that feels as if it is an honor.
“WOAH WHO KNEW YOU GOT RIZZ LIKE THAT TOKOYAMI” shouted a voice from the entrance of the building you and tokoyami had just begun to get closer to.
It was some blond teen boy that you distantly remember seeing during the sports festival. What was his name derek? Denkoy? Donkey? You decided you didn't particularly care either way. Although you found it sort of funny, Tokoyami seemed annoyed with him. If you had spent more than a day with the blonde’s dumbass you’d well understand the annoyance. Tokoyami simply ignored him and continued up the path that led to the entrance with you trailing behind suddenly way more nervous than before due to the realization that Tokoyami was the only person you knew. Well maybe you count Dark Shadow into that too. But you’d think about that another time. By the time you two had reached the door and went inside the blonde had retreated inward into the building.
“Oh come on! Emo bird scores before I do, no fair” a incredibly short and incredibly ugly dude with purple ball hair said in a whiny tone.
Another boy with black hair and weird elbows retorted “well no one is really gonna go for you dude. Besides, don't diss Tokoyami, don't want him to sick Dark Shadow on you” he laughed as he finished talking.
Although you were curious about what they meant, Tokoyami just continued to walk, making you rush to catch up to him.
“So” you started as the two of you left the main part of the building and began to ascend stairs, “what was that? They seemed really weird about me getting here. Lowkey it made me nervous.”
Tokoyami looked at you quietly as he held the door open for you to exit the stairwell, as he usually did for you. “Please do not worry yourself with thoughts such as those. They are just- they find it pertinent to investigate my life.”
“I can tell 'em off like the people at the restaurant.” You said in a serious tone trying to let your concern be understood. “No one gets to bully you except for me.” You added to try and lighten the mood when he didn’t respond.
He was quiet for a long second, he only spoke after the two of you reached his room. As he dug his hand into his pocket and took out a ring of keys he finally answered.
“Please don’t. You’ll just incur their wrath more and -“
Dark shadow suddenly popped up again “besides they just know something you don’t”
“Quiet Dark Shadow,” Tokoyami said strongly, effectively silencing him.
Although you were curious you decided it was likely best you didn’t pry further since you weren’t in the class so who were you to impede. Tokoyami finally opened the door to his room but he did so slowly as if he feared your reaction. But you were delighted but his decor even if it looked like a emo Pinterest board and the soul of gothic architecture had a baby. You quietly put your stuff down whilst wandering around the room and inspected all of the things in his room that you found delightfully interesting. From the dark curtains to the purple lighting you found it delightful.
“So may I make the assumption that you enjoy my room?” Tokoyami questioned making you realize that you hadn’t said a word about his room to him but instead just invited yourself to look around and do whatever as if you were a cat.
Carefully putting the awesome sword you had just found you bashfully replied, “Oh yeah I love it it’s really cool. It's way cooler than my room.”
You smiled at Tokoyami meeting his deep soulful eyes for the first time in his room. They were beautiful against the piercing black and the purple light, their mahogany color seemed to radiate. You noted to yourself that you would probably remember something this beautiful for sometime. Tokoyami walked closer to you closing the distance between the two of you, he opened his mouth but he closed it once more as if unsure if he was willing to say the words he had wanted to say. But still talked although unsure.
“If you continue to stare at me like that I may fall victim to beauty that which you possess. I- um. Where are my manners? I'll get you a beverage after all, you are my guest.”
And with that Tokoyami scrambled out of the room. Wait, did he just call you beautiful? A part of you wished he would stay and come back but you felt conflicted why did you feel this way. I mean getting flustered over eye contact with someone you’ve been friends with for months is ridiculous. And you compliment him too so why would him complimenting you affect you so much.
“I'm an idiot,” you whispered, holding your blushing cheeks.
A sudden chill ran down your spine as a Dark Shadow materialized in front of you once more.
“I’d beg to differ” Dark Shadow said smiling in a mischievous way “I doubt Yami would fall in love with an idiot”
The words you were about to say suddenly disappeared and your mouth hung agap. Your thoughts rushed; he loved you? What does that even mean you aren’t even dating!? But you can’t help to feel a blossom of warmth within yourself. A smile tug on your lips. You realize you don’t know how you feel about him but you can’t describe the pull you have for him. The comfort he has brought to your life. Maybe you loved him to but-
“Wait, does Tokoyami know you did this? Oh god if he doesn’t that’s so bad.”
“So you don’t like him?!! God he’s gonna be so bummed. He’s already extra emo lately because of the bird head. Which I don’t get. I’m amazing looking with a bird head.”
“Wait, he's insecure? But no, I like him. I think I don’t know but I-“ you stopped speaking for a moment as you carefully considered what this would mean. You realize now of course you like him maybe even love but part of you would rather lie than tell him. He’s amazing and that scares you. You don’t want to mess up another good thing in your life. But you’ll never know if you don’t try.
“I want to date him. I want to date Tokoyami too because he’s an amazing person with or without the bird head.”
“Good I didn’t want to deal with him being a depresso espresso. Besides he needs your help.” And with that Dark Shadow began to drag you out of Tokoyami’s room and downstairs and although you tried to fight back it didn’t make that much of a difference because Dark Shadow was incredibly strong. Dark shadow came to a sudden stop that made you feel like you got whiplash. You head was spinning and you were still blushing from realizing your feelings for Tokoyami. Finally realizing where you are, you began to question Dark Shadow before you heard his voice.
“Fine I'll relent! I like them! Is that the information you were trying to obtain?” Tokoyami said in a frustrated tone.
“I knew it!” Yelled the blonde one from earlier.
A green haired boy you remembered seeing on the news spoke up too “Good for you they seem nice”
“You think your really gonna bag her while looking like tha-“ The ugly purple creature said
A hard smack across the back of the head was delivered to him by a girl that was all pink who added “That’s rude. Tokoyami is a great person with an amazing quirk!”
Despite his comforting it was clear the purple ones' comments had cut into him. You could see that behind that mask of nonchalance there was a deep rooted sadness and insecurity. You hated seeing him like that and your body and mouth reacted before your brain.
“You know” you said boldly while stepping out from behind the corner “I still think Tokoyami is handsome even with feathers. I would also appreciate it if you would not pick at him for information because if you need to know something he’ll tell you.” And with that you grabbed him by the hand and dragged him back to his room.
You opened the door and then closed it behind him. Finally meeting his gaze after that whole fiasco. It was obvious he was confused but also flustered just like you. The both of you wanted to speak but had no idea how to. So Dark Shadow started for you both.
“Well that went well!” Dark shadow’s enthusiastic mood was stiffed by the awkwardness as you just called Tokoyami hot in front of all of his classmates, “Oh I get I get. I’m ruining the mood you both just learned of the others feelings due to my help and want to ‘get down to business’. I’ll just go now, have fun. I won't interrupt because I DO NOT want to see that.”
“Dark shadow, what information did you relay to them?” Tokoyami said concerned.
But Dark Shadow slipped into the shadows and disappeared. You felt that maybe explaining would help “Yeah, Dark Shadow said that you are kinda in love with me. And that you were insecure about your looks. Then it dragged me down to where you were and I heard what the grape looking bastard said and I just. . . I don’t want you to ever feel bad. So I couldn’t help but defend you.”
You shifted nervously and took a small step forward trying to close the distance between both of you and your hearts.
“I am. . . I lack-“ Tokoyami seemed to almost be malfunctioning as he spoke and took a breath and closed the distance between you both and grabbed your hands softly as he muttered “I’m truly touched by how much you care and I wish to return that in full earnest not out of obligation but because I desire to care for you. With that I would be honored if you would grant me the chance to court you.”
As he spoke his feathers began to fluff up as he became nervous and he internally yelled at himself to not fumble this.
“I’d be happy to date you, Tokoyami” You answered, squeezing his hands.
The weight lifted off of your chest and all the doubts you had melted away. You felt assured in him, in your relationship. Tokoyami was relieved, all that teasing from his classmates was worth it. You were fully worth the trouble. A smile spread across his face.
“Please call me Fumikage, and I will be forever grateful to date someone as amazing as you.”
You let go of his hands and went to wrap your arms around him softly before lightheartedly saying “I guess this is a pretty awesome birthday huh?”
He wrapped his arms around you and squeezed you lightly, cherishing this moment while saying softly “Undoubtedly the best, all due to you.”

Best tokoyami x reader ever
how to get bitches 101
Barbie dolls: tokoyami x gn!bird quirk! reader
word: 1.7k
summary: Tokoyami reels you in accidentally by falling victim to his genetics (two birds have a mating ritual minus the sex)
warnings: mostly just funny-cute, mentions of mating season, you read now, preening mentioned, kirishima has a lot of shenanigans, you throw pillows
Tokoyami wasn't particularly one for bright colors. His closet and dresser were stuffed full of black fabrics. Truly the only color he ever wore was his red choker and school uniform.
As much as he hated admitting that his bird attributes went further than appearances, he couldn't deny the feelings that grew up as spring slowly approached. He yearned more for physical affection and soft love. Tokoyami wanted to press his beak against someone's face and breathe in their comforting smell. He got hot and needed to take more showers, lowering the temperature. It had always been a distanced thing, someone, not anyone specific. Then, of course, that all changed when you joined 1-A.
The only other person he met with a bird quirk was Hawks but you were actually his age. You had wings in a similar fashion to Hawks. Your wings were inky black and you squeezed them close to you behind your back. Tokoyami had seen them in their full length and they were a little intimidating. Mina once measured them with her body and learned they were about one and a half Minas long. You kept them close to your body most of the time, making sure they didn't knock against anyone. He liked it a lot when you’d finally get out of the halls and away from people you'd shake out your wings and stretch them out to their full length. The relaxed smile that came after that always made him sigh through his nose.
When this spring rolled around he realized his yearning was amplified and more specific. He didn't want just anyone he wanted you. Maybe even needed. Tokoyami hated how slowly as more flowers sprouted, the more his chest ached for your approval.
Tokoyami focused on the cup in his hand, blowing at the steam. Kirishima sat down at the table near him, opening the homework due the next class day. It was a weekend so the day was a slow start, each student rising at their own speed. The weekend meant they were allowed out of their uniform, wearing the clothes that actually fit their personalities. Kirishima paused and looked up from his work, staring at Tokoyami’s shirt.
It wasn't really black. It was as if a black T-shirt had been bleached with just a sprinkle of the chemical. It was the darkest gray Kirishima had ever seen. Kirishima dropped his pencil.
“Tokoyami?” Tokoyami looked up from his tea, meeting Kirishima’s eyes. “Are you wearing…gray?” Kirishima asked. A few heads turned at that, fact-checking. Tokoyami was indeed wearing gray, an extremely dark shade of it but still gray. Tokoyami gave a one-shouldered shrug like it was something simple.
“Yeah,” Tokoyami muttered, bringing his straw to his mouth. You entered the common area soon after. You were in a relaxed outfit, still rubbing your eyes to wipe away the sleep. You covered your mouth as you yawned and headed for the kitchen, walking past Tokoyami. You paused just as you had passed him, backpedaling to look him up and down.
“Fumikage, breaking out the spring colors I see. They look…” you paused, dragging your eyes over him again. Your wings shuttered, fluttering and shaking out an inch further out from where they started. A few black feathers floated away from them to the floor, drifting towards the ground like a ship slipping into the storm. “really good on you.” you finished, walking away from him before he could respond. Tokoyami froze, staring ahead. A shiver passed over him and his feathers puffed up, making him look impossibly fluffy. Tokoyami quickly set his tea down, smoothing his feathers down with his hands.
“Ah. I get it.” Kirishima muttered, returning to his work. Tokoyami ignored him, picking up his tea again.
Tokoyami didn't even notice that he had started taking actions without thinking of them. Before he realized it he was bringing you handfuls of sparkly items and string. You found it adorable. He didn't even say anything he just approached you with his hands cupped together and dumped the strings and sparkles in your palms. Tokoyami nodded at you before turning around and stalking away. You thanked him, though you doubted he heard you. You kept his gifts, placing his sparkling rocks and random shiny bottle caps on your bookshelf. You weren't entirely sure what to do with the string so you left it in a small braid next to his shinys.
Tokoyami started letting out low and melodic whistles around you, small tunes that changed each time you saw him. You smiled and praised him, earning nothing but a small nod. You didn't mind, they were nice tunes that you sometimes hummed to yourself when you were alone.
It truly didn't click what was happening until the day Tokoyami made a scene in the common area. It was mostly empty, only Kirishima, Denki, and you. The other's were probably training but you didn't mind. You were reading your book on the couch, tuning out the conversation Kirishima and Denki were having. They were surprisingly quiet, either to respect your hobby or because they didn't have much to talk about you weren't sure.
You paused when you heard the door open. You looked up to see Tokoyami and a small Dark Shadow at the light switch. You smiled at them, though confusion flooded you. Tokoyami stared at you while Dark Shadow watched you from over Tokoyami's shoulder.
“Hello Tokoyami,” Kirishima said, seemingly just as put off as you.
“Hi, Fumikage. What are you doing?” you asked, slipping your bookmark into your book and closing it. Tokoyami flicked the switch turning the lights off except for the few lamps. The room was quite dark, it was darker than Tokoyami’s actual bedroom. You could still see his outline. You could find where Dark Shadow was, the dark looked just a little off but it wasn't anything specific.
You froze when Tokoyami started moving in calculated moves. His arms swung this way and that, head bobbing around. He tilted his head back, letting out a squak before continuing. You smiled, growing a little warm at the sentiment. It was quite cute, wasn't it? Your wings sputtered out lightly wrapping around you loosely. Tokoyami moved until he was breathing a little unevenly and you had dropped your book entirely.
You shook your head out of the trance as Dark Shadow flicked the lights back on. Tokoyami was staring at you with his arms still in the air, chest rising and falling. You smiled brightly and nodded.
“Cute, Fumi,” you muttered, watching him smile very briefly and head towards the door. Dark Shadow slipped past him, diving towards you. Dark Shadow rubbed their beak against your cheek, cooing at you. You gently pet their head, shooing them away. Tokoyami called after them, dragging them away from the common area. Once they both left you slowly looked at the other two, finding looks of quiet shock and confusion. Denki’s mouth was still open and hanging. Kirishima was staring at the door like Tokoyami would come back.
“Did he just perform a dance number?” Denki whispered to Kirishima. Kirishima nodded. He leaned towards Denki's ear, trying to whisper quietly.
“I think it's mating season.” You flung a throw pillow at his head, returning to your book. He wasn't wrong of course but it was still a topic of conversation you weren't exactly happy to approach.
Soon after Tokoyami started sitting next to you at lunch and dropping bits of his food onto your plate. You thanked him each time and scooted a little closer to him. He always swallowed and turned his head away from you, his feathers fluffed up.
He was cute, you liked him. Eventually, his gray clothes got a little lighter and his shiny offerings got more frequent.
You found him on the couch reading a poetry book. You sat next to him exclusively because you wanted to be next to him, with no other ulterior motive. You watched him read, eyes dragging over his profile. You paused when you noticed his feathers were a little misshapen. You reached forward and dragged your pinched fingers over his feathers, beginning to preen his feathers. Tokoyami paused, his eye darting out in your direction. You paused, pulling your hand away.
“I’m sorry, I should’ve asked.” You muttered, leaning back from him. Tokoyami shook his head.
“No. I like it. Continue please.” Tokoyami said. You hummed, burying your hands in his feathers again. You spent plenty of time with your hands preening his feathers.
Eventually, you finished and your hands left him, stretching as you decided what to do next. As you moved to stand up, you felt something touching your wing. You glanced back, finding Tokoyami’s hand on your wing. He stared up at you, waiting patiently. You slowly sat back down, back turned towards him. You sat like that for a while as Tokoyami slowly made his way through your feathers. When he finally finished, his hands lingered and gently pet the feathers down.
You glanced over your shoulder, watching him closely. He noticed your eyes, looking up and dropping his hands from your wings. You turned and faced him again. You didn't say anything and just stared at him for a moment.
Your hand held the bottom of his beak. Tokoyami froze, his shoulders tensing. You slowly leaned forward, giving Tokoyami plenty of time to pull away. He scooted closer, leg pressing flush against yours. You pushed down your smile, finally gently pressing your lips to the curve of his beak. You hummed, pulling away.
Tokoyami’s feathers fluttered, puffing up so large you reached forward to pet them down. Tokoyami leaned forward, nuzzling his beak against your neck. Kirishima walked through the common room door, pausing when he saw you two. He sighed and pressed a hand to his chest.
“They mate so fast,” Kirishima muttered nostalgically. You groaned, reaching for the pillow next to you. Kirishima held his hands up in surrender, protecting his face. You dropped the pillow back to the couch and leaned your cheek against Tokoyami’s head.
“Nestlings just leave the nest so fast these days,” Kirishima added, earning a loud groan from you. He ducked behind an armchair as you reached for the pillow.
“You really put the throw in the throw pillow, you know that?” Kirishima joked from behind the armchair. You hummed, petting the black feathers on the side of Tokoyami’s face.
