Dear US citizens. .

As someone who was born and raised in a censorship heavy and oppressive country, with an honest heart, I can't say I feel a tinge of sympathy for any of you. I want to tell you that you need to stop whining because just like we do, you'll live. I spent my entire life watching you all have infinitely more privilege and audacity to do as you please than I'll ever see in my country, and how unaware you were until it was too late.

However, I will still tell you some very simple things to keep in mind:

Get a trustworthy VPN.

Switch to Firefox.

Make sure you routinely clear your cookies and get trackers off of your back.

Deactivate your Twitter account(s), and send an email to the HQ to erase your data.

(I do not care how proud you are that you were there when Jack was the CEO, would you rather exercise your right to take your data back or let Elon have your information?)

Find unbiased news sources.

(You lot do not have anywhere near the amount of censorship that would require this, but find underground journalists who post on Tor links, if you really need to.)

Decenter yourself while in public.

(Do not speak of your political alliance. Do not mention any marginalized part of you that you are able to hide. Do Not Out Anyone. Keep everyone's information private. Lie, lie, and lie some more. Keep your lips sealed shut and watch out for even the slightest thing that might give you away, it's much easier than you think.)

Be prepared for anything. The laws mean nothing to deranged presidents. The laws are not as infallible as you might think.

Stock up on food. Grains, oils, and canned foods are must haves.

(The most basic foods will reach insane prices in the blink of an eye. Get them while you can. Grow fruits and vegetables at home if you have the means.)

Don't go around complaining about how it's all so unfair.

(It is very unfair and you have every right to be upset, but once again, decenter yourself and stop feeling entitled to being openly dramatic. You Are In Danger, And Complaining Won't Save You.)

That's a well done summary of everything I should say for now.

I bet like me, many of you are feeling helpless right now. You feel like you’re screaming into the void. Hopeless. Against a current designed and destined to sweep you under.

Let me be clear: you CANNOT GIVE UP.

If you need to feel like you can do something, I do have some recommendations.

Stand up for your neighbors. Do not allow people to think acting on racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia- any of it- is okay. Ever. Call them out.

Do not stay silent.

Protest. Civil disobedience.

Do good radically.

Need an example?

Call your local food bank director. Ask how they need help.

We’re exhausted and we’re scared of how funding and grants will be over the next four years and we know that more people are going to need us because food programs, Medicaid, social security income, disability income- it’s all getting cut. He made that clear.

A donation of money- OR TIME- can change everything.

Take care of one another. Please. We can get thru this but only if we do it together.

Good vs. Evil: It's Time to Stop

The conflict between absolute good and absolute evil is the oldest conflict in literary history. Humans have been writing about dual morality for thousands upon thousands of years. Recently, the battle of good vs. evil has migrated from religion into the fictional setting. The plot goes like this: the protagonist teams up with a group of like-minded people to do battle against the Others. The Others are evil. Every single Other person you meet will be evil. They are traitorous, cowardly, self-serving, and hateful. The protagonist and allies will be generous, brave, caring, and selfless. People introduced to the story are either with or against the protagonist. In the end, good triumphs over evil. The angels win; Satan goes back in the pit.

This plot may be time-tested, but it is BORING. It’s time for a change.

the good news is that this is the last time that this can happen. this is his last term-- for certain this time. and then we never have to do this again.

nothing is going to change right away or fall apart overnight. and no matter what, over the next four years there will still be ninja turtle cartoons. there will still be puppies and kitties. there will still be minecraft and magical girl animes and those lil caramel hard candies.
