Stop! Flight Rising Time! The prompt for today is "Trick (Scary)". This is Echo, an old hag of a bogsneak dragon who plays much the traditional role of a Baba Yaga / Ursula in the sense that she makes bargains with desperate, foolish dragons who always end up getting the bad end of whatever the deal was. She gets trot out every Halloween for the Flight Rising Trick-or-Treat event, where she is one of the more malicious options in my lore for trick or treater's to visit.

Starfall Celebration means... September is almost over! And that means it's almost time for the annual Flight Rising Trick-or-Treating! This year my aether Ossie is going out dressed as a parrot, with his adoptive dad Gatekeeper along to chaperone.

This character was actually my very first gaoler, breed-changed on the day the gaoler dragons were released. From literally the moment I created her, I knew that despite being an amab dragon, she was a loud and proud she/her nonbinary. If ancients could wear clothing she would 100% do drag.

It's fitting I should start with one of my Flight Rising dragons- my tumblr account started as a flight rising blog, and pride month was when I tended to post the most art for it. This character is Jarle, a coatl with a seer's eye and a big ol' gay crush he won't admit to. No, he does not like Vulcan, thank you very much! Sure, he's handsome, and charismatic, and a talented artisan, but he's a pompous brat! Grumble, grumble.

Does anybody remember that Tumblr Staff post from a while back where they were featuring a bunch of dragon pictures, and half of them were Flight Rising fanart? I've been trying to find it but man does this site's search need some fine-tuning, lol.

posting on main since i don't care but my mutuals and followers who don't know shit about flight rising might be very confused 💀💀💀

anyways with the new flight rising lore update/revamp, i am very happy and excited about it! but i've seen a lot of complaints from others going like "but my lore!" because their personal lore for their dragon clan goes full in on the colonisation of the beastclans lands/massacring of the beastclans and just overall being dicks on purpose (which was the original canon lore for beastclans and their relationship with dragons).

like i get that the canon has changed making your lair's lore no longer canon compliant, but you have to understand that pretty much every indigenous person who played this game and cared about giving their dragons lore (ME) had to ignore canon. a lot of us ignored canon because playing on the side of colonisers (dragons) was severely uncomfortable given...you know...real life colonisation destroying our cultures, families, languages etc.

the fact that the devs decided "hey actually the playerbase has a point about all of this fucked up colonialism shit in our lore lets fix our mistakes" is like. a fucking win for all of us indigenous people around the world who play this game. we no longer have to pretend the beastclans lore doesn't exist or ignore it because it reminded us too much of the real life things that happened to our own communities. we can play the game and give lore to our own dragon's without having to ignore the canon lore for our own comfort if we decide we want our dragons to interact with the beastclans in positive ways.

if it bothers and annoys you so much to have your own clan's lore not being canon compliant...now you know how it felt for so many indigenous people for most of the decade who played this game. except we had a very good real life reason to be bothered and annoyed by it.

Halloween Sketches

If I'd been thinking strategically, I would have finished my ref for my vaguely Halloween-ish dragon (or he will be Halloween-ish) Sally for Halloween - instead I worked on some art that's not gong to be seen until the end of November, oops!

I still wanted to do something, so I drew up some sketches of Sally, who will be a permababy Stitched/Patchwork/Mop veilspun, and of my tundra Hjalmar escorting the clan babies on a trick-or-treating mission, including Sally, baby nocturne Nymph and baby pearlcatcher Dryad. I don't have any of the three permababies' lore worked out yet, so how canon with my clan lore this is, I don't know, but it was cute so I drew it anyway!

This isn’t a perfect ref, but I’m done working on it, I’ll do more another time! I haven’t quite pieced together her lore yet, but something something magic, something something stars, one or possibly both of her girlfriends is a witch! I do know for sure I like her design,
