In 1995 many of the farm animals were mysteriously killed overnight without any alerts given. Many of these events happened in rural farms and villages on the island of Puerto Rico. They reportedly said that the farm animals were left uneaten and completely sucked dry without a single drop of blood left to be seen.

Madelyne Tolentino first reported the siting of the chupacabra. She’s from Canóvanas, a town in the east of Puerto Rico. In 1995, she spotted a scary alien-like creature out of her window. Her description was later debunked but it was too late to expunge it from entering the realm of folklore.

There was a monster the Mayans had that resembles the chupacabra we have today. Mayans said that the monster would kill animals and people. This monster was called “Camazotz”. In some stories people mentioned them in their descriptions about how the camazotz is an ancestor of the chupacabra we have today.

Chupacabra Territory was released in 2016 and is again a alien-like creature who hunts human beings. Hollywood stuck with the alien-like creature due to the fact more people tend to be more scared of an alien than an animal. It follows four friends into Lake Hughes where they attempt to document the creature.

What the Science Says
Even if The Chupacabra was a real animal, it would still be impossible for it to survive off of a diet of purely blood. Animals of it’s size require various proteins and vitamins only found in flesh and other solid body parts. Blood alone would not be sufficient to carry this creature through life

Another culprit for the death of the Livestock is the grey wolf. These animals have gained a reputation for being pests amongst the farming/ranching community. In the 19th century, they were hunted without mercy by ranchers and exterminated throughout much of the eastern United States.

Many sightings of El Chupacabras can be dismissed as animals with mange. This disease regularly eliminates the hair on the animals body as can be noted with this black bear. Other animals affected by mange are wolves and coyotes.

Lividity is when the heart of a dead animal stops pumping blood and the blood travels to the lowest parts of the body. This gives the illusion that the blood of a corpse was “sucked dry”

Taxonomic reconstruction of El Chupacabras (Circa 2007 colorized)
This is what a chupacabra would look like if proven real. This reconstruction is based off of the dog breed known as Xoloitzcuintli with elements of coyotes with mange inserted within.
